*I don’t think he would have, because he had several chances to take Xiang Bao away after he regained his memories, but ultimately, he chose his country over the woman he loved. I could kind of understand why he pushed her to take Xi Shi’s place before he regained his memory. She was a stranger to him and he did not have any feelings for her. But when he regained his memories and asked her to leave with him when they reached Tu Cheng, and he still chose to leave Xiang Bao to fend for herself in front of Fu Chai, I really hated him then. He made a conscious decision to put Gou Jian and Yue over Xiang Bao.

I was also really pissed when he tried to blame everything on my darling Wei Qin. Sure Wei Qin caused his memory loss, but he could have changed events if he took Xiang Bao away or chosen not to replace Xi Shi with Xiang Bao. Ultimately, things turned out the way they did because of his decisions.

Wei Qin, Wei Qin! Best character ever! 😀

Fan Li is a hero who saves his countries by sacrificing his love. He regrets it in the end, but I think that if he could travel back in time, he would make the same decision. He is a patriot who would defend his country’s honor, even if it means he would sacrifice the love of his life.

Other than the time travel aspect, are there any differences between the storyline of Grand Dreams of Spring and Autumn and 美人劫?

    Agree @ xia0yuer
he did blame poor weiqing didn’t he? i almost forgot that…
I don’t like that in the moment, since he didn’t remember her and therefore doesn’t ‘love her’ he could sacrifice anything. But I do kind of think that if he had all his memories intact at the right time, he would do what’s right. I mean, he kept holding onto his promise to Xiang Bao up to the point he forgot his memory (thanks to Xi Shi’s recap of what happened then) but after he allowed her to go to Wu in Xi Shi’s place, it was also Xiang Bao’s decision not to allow him to take her away since she lost all hope in this guy. He was just voicing out wishful thinking, because there’s no way Xiang Bao will even go with him with the way things turned out. I mean, she has nothing left, her sister is dead and Fan Li isn’t a good enough reason. She already stepped over the line.

Nope, I was just watching some fanmade mvs, which is how I find stories, and the plotline just seemed really similar. So I googled it, and read somewhere that Xiang Bao was a time traveler in 美人劫, but I couldn’t find if there were any notable differences. So I was wondering whether it was different enough in either perspective or events that I should read it.

Nope, 美人劫 is a completely different story about a girl named An Ruo who travels back in time to the End of Eastern Han and Three Kingdoms Period. She is stuck in an infant’s body and is adopted by the infamous Dong Zhuo. Fifteen years later, she loves Dong Zhuo and he also loves her, but the fact that he raised her since she was a baby causes some ickiness. She meets other famous people like Wang Yun, Lu Bu, Cao Cao, Liu Xie, and Guo Jia, and all of them fall in love with her. Because she knows what happens in history, An Ruo/Xiao Xiao tries to prevent the people she knows and loves from walking down their destined path.

I’ve only read a little bit, but it’s definitely not as interesting as 春秋大梦. Also, I really liked Xiang Bao but An Ruo’s fakeness annoys me. She’s always thinking to herself that she’s an actress so she can pretend to be like this and that… It’s the prequel to 笑倾三国.

Oh!! Now I know what you are talking about haha. Read 笑倾三国 and it’s definitely less serious than 春秋大梦. Xiang Bao is one of my most memorable female leads imo. That’s why I put 春秋大梦 as my #2 right after Once Promised. I just really really love Xiang Bao. She kind of gives me the feeling of BBJX’s Ruoxi while I was watching the drama. Like really want to run into there and give her a hug not because she’s such a sad sad character or anything (but she’s sad alright) but because she’s so relateable and little sister figure. Xiang Bao is a really strong character buildup, so that’s very natural.

The only person I was very fond of inside 笑倾三国 was Guo Jia and the cameo Zhuge Ko Ming. I don’t think I’ll be reading 美人劫 just knowing Guo Jia will be in pain!

*Whoops, sorry about that. I think I only focused on the 美人 part of the title. That’s interesting that she woulds take out the time traveling element, but I’m really glad she did because I like Xiang Bao just the way she is. 😀
