Just One Smile is Very Alluring (Love O2O = Love Online To Offline) 微微一笑很倾城 by Gu Man (HE)

s27346684

What is it that makes a man fall in love with a woman at first sight?

Appearance? Aura? Wealth?

NO, when campus prince and gaming expert, student Xiao Nai first saw Bei Wei Wei, what made him fall in love was not her extraordinary beauty, but her slim and slender fingers that were flying across the keyboard and her calm and composed manner!!!

Embarrassing, no?

At the same time, gaming expert Bei Wei Wei, at this time and place is on the computer, methodically commanding a guild war, and won a perfect and glorious victory despite being at a disadvantage, and was completely unaware that cupid is nearby.

Soon after basketball player, swimmer, all-around excellent student, and game company president,  Xiao Nai, uses both tactics on and off-line to take this beauty’s heart.

Therefore this romance slowly bloomed.

I’m a little more than half done, and it’s so cute that she runs around calling him 大神, 大神. Of course Xiao Nai’s lines are so funny. I also like that wuxia feel when Wei Wei plays the game.

Awww, Gu Man is the best!!♥♥♥

I enjoyed this book, but I have to admit this was my first read in the “online game” genre so things were a bit confusing in the beginning for me because I don’t play games online.

Out of her 3 books, I like 杉杉来吃 the most, then 何以笙箫默, then this one.

Oh, so happy since I need some cheering up after 2 weepy novels. I’ve finished 20% of the book. It is so fun & cute. I wanna become a gamer, lol. Is the online game in the novel a real game? Where to play? Must know Chinese in order to play this game? I’ve only played facebook games. This weekend, I gonna devote myselt to ‘KO’ this book, haha….

Ko? Is that insider language that only those reading the book can understand? I can’t believe u read 2 of that author’s books back to back. Im not gonna even start on mirage until a few more books. The author makes me feel too gloomy.

Xiaoyuer explained KO means ‘Knock Out’ in the game world. I finished half of the book as I listened till 4am. Oh, too happy to go to sleep, haha….I like this book. I like this book, lol. The guy’s name Xiao Nai sound so sissy. Luckily Wei Wei calls him 大神 which sound so cool. Wei Wei is such a popular name in China.

I like Xin Yi Wu’s books. Her books are gloomy but so heart felt. Mookie is also reading Let me Look but still early stage. I also like 顾漫 books. Btw she should be on the popular authors list. This fluffy book is helping me to recover from Let me Look:)

You repeating “I like this book” twice makes me think it’s a very fluffy happy book that will make the reader float. I was like this when after I read Trap. How’s the audiobook? Half of me want to read this next and half of me want to save it. I haven’t nice modern books that really fits my appetite. I’m not really into gloomy modern novels, gloomy ancient ones are alright.

Yes, yes, I feel so surreal now, wandering in my online wuxia world, lol. Pls don’t PK me as I don’t wanna wake up, haha…..

I also wanted to save this for later but since this is such a popular book & most ppl seem to have read it so might as well join the crowd. A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush, lol. I can always listen again next yr.

There are 4 versions of this book floating around. I don’t like the one on cxt8 bcos only have a female voice. I need my guy to sound like a man, haha..But I think that version is the most comprehensive. The other one, I think is read by a radio broadcaster. I am not sure as I didn’t really bother to listen.

I think there is also a short radio play by Petboy. I gonna listen to that next yr. Lastly, I am listening to the version with 12 chapters on tudou. I feel this is a fusion of audio book & radio play. Something like Amy broadcast with many voices, music & a few songs. I think they edited the book a bit but not as much as the radio play to confuse me. Currently loving this version.

I am in love with Xiao Nai’s cool voice, lol. Yah, I dream of marrying a reader so he can read me bedtime stories every night, lol. Oh too bad, Cgege is married:( I painstakingly downloaded & converted all of them to MP3 files. They are rather big files so don’t think I can send them to you. I don’t think a lot of scenes are cut as there is abt 10 hrs of recording as there is abt 50 mins in a file.

I really want to play this game. Haha i got to part where she’s become married to that #1 guy. The game feel is very heavily seeped into the story. Its more humorous if u have some game playing experience. Really rekindle ur interest to play again, but they don’t got wuxia games in English. Boo

Im not that greedy as that will leave me with too less guys to choose from. =P, i just want a guy that will listen to audiobook with me. I just found out he was married like yesterday. Haha

You’ll see later that Xiao Nai is very sweet & romantic. Also, smart & handsome. Such person can only exist in an online game, haha..Wei Wei is likable but a bit clueless & slow. Is there such a game? Anyway you can read Chinese. Go & play & meet your Xiao Mai:P I don’t think I am giving you spoiler but tell me when you’ve reached the real world.

I think Cgege looks young only but maybe late 20s. Or he married young like immediately after college. So probably he is productive lately bcos he wants to earn more milk powder money, haha…Wah will be interesting if the dad & son read a book together, lol.

i join the camping for this story so late!!

Xiao Nai inside the game is so swoon-worthy lol. No wonder Wei Wei is addicted to the game! Wait~ i think she was addicted before she met Xiao Nai though.
This really makes me feel like going back and playing games, but Zhu Xian game is not as fun (or bian tai lol) as this Meng Hui Jiang Hu. Makes me want to get married in there lol! But i doubt will have anything resembling a touching love story with my virtual hubby. Should not try to get myself addicted back to games, too much wasting energy, putting off schoolwork and stuff. I’ll just get my dose from this story, it’s so my cup of tea though!! The Xiao Nai + Wei Wei vs ex competition is so funny. Her hubby is such a hero hehe

I gonna listen to the pet boy version maybe during xmas as I think his voice will be even more swoon worthy, haha….I think she is called Lu Yi WEI WEI. They use part of their real names – Yi XIAO NAI Her. Hey, are you listening to the 12 episode version? I like the parts where they have to do tasks. There is one task which makes allusion to Rtn of the Condor Heroes. This is so good bcos of the blending of the wuxia & modern world. I sort of lost interest later, after they met for real:(

    chancy426 September 25, 2012 at 2:26 pm |

Yup im reading the 12 episodes version. I always want to pick it up but afraid to finish it too fast. Got to the real life Xiao Nai. Hopefully it’ll stay cute and not get as boring as u say. Haha i watched some fan vids for this book. They used Tang Yan as the real life Wei Wei and Shi Shi as game Wei Wei. Hu Ge as Xiao Nai and Nai He. Wallace Huo as Zhen Shui. Strange, i would have swapped Wallace and Hu Ge. Especially since Ma Tian Yu and the guy playing Cai Lang are totally the two friends in this story.

I have to say that i think her character would have been more awesome had Gu Man not described her to be having a killer body. Being very pretty i am alright with, but keep bringing up her killer body is so weird.

Chancy, the 12 chapters version is the best right? Real life is not boring, still sweet but online is better:) Hehe, I prefer Hu Ge over Wallace Huo. I saw that awful drama Unbeatables just for Hu Ge & Tang Yan:P I don’t remember the killer body part. I don’t know the name of the Korean drama, but it’s very long.

haha The game doesn’t allow marriage yet, but it does have discipleship right now. In the game they call it Shi Xiong/Shi Jie. I found myself a Shi Xiong to help me level faster. Had to chase him around the entire school ground just to track him down to accept me as his Shi Mei. =(

Overall, it’s a pretty addicting game.

As for C-gege’s game book. It’s not very romantic, but it’s crazy funny. The girl reader is pretty good. I’m still trying to figure out which guy she will end up with.

This must hv been the most difficult book for me thus far. I don’t know how many times I’ve aborted the book, but thanks to Peanuts (again) and becoz it was a piece of GuMan, I persisted.

The clouds of confusion only lifted when the leads finally met and the game content took a backseat thereafter. A piece of advice to those who simply hv got zero appreciation or understanding of Chinese role-playing online games and who wants to read this book : start with the first few chapters (just to hv a feel of who’s who), then skip the rest until chapter 21, then resume to the end.

The online game aside, this is really a light and breezy book, for once, the leads did not even hv the slightest quarrel or misunderstanding. It was a rather straight line affair after they met each other in real life. Due to this, (i don’t believe i’m actually saying this) but i thought the storyline could do with a little bit of excitement or even angst. I also thought the relationship aspect and their romance proper were not sufficiently developed. And although I also felt that there wasn’t enough of sweet moments, I guess I was rewarded with the wedding gown fiasco epilogue at the end…heehee…

But for once, the female lead, WeiWei is a knockout beauty with brains!! As for the male lead, Xiao Nai, comes with the usual ingredients (no need to elaborate) although I don’t like his name, sounds too milkish to me.

All in all, I feel a sense of accomplishment for having read all three of GuMan’s completed books and ShanShan remains at the top.

I’m a new fan of the voice actor, Yun Duo’s (云朵)! She makes the audio book (listed as version 2 in the links) sound like a radio drama. <3

I just finished listening to chapter 1 (part 4 in the ebook listed above) and can't believe how seamlessly her animated voice(s) flowed as I read along with the book.

I haven't gotten around to getting lost in the jargons of the online gaming world as it's still early yet, but so far I'm already amused by all the marriages, stolen spouses, divorces, multiple players' lynches/interactions that took place in that world. LOL. I was never a big gamer, but I can only assume that is normal in RPGs? 😀 (I think online game marriages also took place in Yu Wo's ½ 王子).

Only on the first chapter, and I'm already admiring Bao Wei Wei because she's bright and beautiful. She was described as a Hua Ping Xing beauty "花瓶型的美女", which I think refers to someone whose only good attribute would be her beautiful looks (a stunning airhead?).

I really like that Wei Wei strives to be diligent in her studies and despite her good looks and people's disbelief that she's more than meets the eye, she's a student at a top university. Now that's a female lead I can root for!

ooooh, and already an interaction between her and 一笑奈何. Despite his godly status in the gaming world, do people actually go around calling him 大神?? that's hilarious! 😀 😀

The first part took a bit getting used to because I don’t play online games n find it hard to imagine the game scenes n characters. Just when I start to immerse myself in the beauty of game world, we move to reality n it is adaptation all over again to their real life persona.
Overall, I think it is a fun n cute read n would rate it 4 stars.

This is my first Chinese novel after more than 20 years. Love the content of the book. Reminds me of my days in varsity whereby I was also busy playing MMORPG and found my man online.
Reading in the book, loved the way author penned the character 肖奈 offline and his online character 一笑奈何.

I can’t believe I was so LATE in reading this book. After hearing people raving about this one. Now it is one of my favorite! After losing so much tears for angsty historical books, I’ve been searching for this type of books ever since. “Low angst with cute heroine and a bit black belly male lead.”

    So far, I’ve read…

3 books by Guman (ShanShan, Silent, and this one)
    – Really, really miss you
    – Honey Stewed Squid

    I’ve been eyeing
    – My Silly Girl Cherished Moments of After Marriage
    – Once We Come Across Love

    any more recommendations?

It doesn’t need to be modern, I just like ‘fuhei’ with low angst LOL

Lastly, I don’t know how to thank you all for this website Hahaha
It really opens me to C-novels. And I’m really glad I found it. 🙂
