Argh so bleak, I can’t take it. Lucky you tell me as I am not gonna read it. When you mentioned fei would si cun, I should have guessed. I can take in some angst but I need the silver lining meaning happy ending.

I have an affinity for sad endings when they are appropriate. Since there is no audiobook, and I don’t know how to read Chinese, would you mind summarizing the story for me, Eugene?

For FWSC’s novel Too Late to Say I Love You, I actually preferred the novel’s ending to the drama’s, even though the novel’s ending was sad.

    Wow, interesting plot! Thanks, Eugene.

I was quite surprised, after reading your summary. From the brief introduction provided on top, I thought LLC was going to be the villain and RSN was going to be the male lead, a gray character but nonetheless unwavering in his love for Weixi. I guess I was wrong…

So did RSN ever love Weixi, or was it all a revenge plan for him? Why did RSN commit suicide?

The ending sounds incredibly bittersweet. LLC survives, and even though his mind does not remember, Weixi will always be a part of his heart. *sob* I think I must enjoy crying my eyes out for sad endings, because they are usually the ones I think about the most. The thought of LLC just waiting for Weixi every day, not knowing the person he is waiting for is already lost to him forever and won’t ever be coming back, just breaks my heart. My gosh, I am already sniffling at your summary. Can you imagine what would happen if I were to read the story? 😛

By the way, you said LLC woke up from his coma and remembered a woman and that he was still waiting for her answer. What answer?

I don’t like the cancer subplot, though. I think those Korean dramas, where at least half the cast dies from cancer (being sarcastic here), has given me an allergy to any subplot involving a main character conveniently dying of cancer to sadden the ending. 😛

    Eugene:

Why did RSN want to take revenge on Weixi’s family anyway? What was his revenge plan? To make Weixi fall in love with him and then abandon her? Why did she ask him to save her life? Was she in danger of losing her baby? I assume RSN didn’t realize she was pregnant with his child, according to what you told me. Therefore, RSN would have saved his baby if he had known, but he was fine walking out on the baby’s mother (Weixi) when her life was in danger? How could RSN claim to love her if he was willing to let her die?

What did LLC do that made him assume Weixi would not forgive him? Why was LLC even involved in RSN’s revenge plan? Did LLC also have a bone to pick with Weixi’s family?

What made RSN suddenly decide he wanted Weixi back? What did he do to try to get her back (other than placing a bomb on LLC’s flight)?

I thought Weixi’s form of revenge on RSN was extremely narrow-minded and…dumb. Killing herself to spite RSN will only hurt herself in the end. Look what happened? If she had not committed suicide by refusing to take medication, then she would have been able to live happily ever after with LLC.

    Thanks for answering my questions!

I thought that the ending were a bit too melo-dramatic D: But then again, I skipped a lot of the chapters so maybe I didn’t know the plot really well.

I started listening to the audio tapes on this, RSN is sooo evil. Most villains seem nicer then him (at least have some redeeming qualities). He realizes that she has nothing to do with the father, isn’t even liked by the family and he still uses her, just because he’s mean! And the second lead, although he gets nicer later, he did leave her die too.

I really like the audio book btw, the reader is pretty good, she gives the story a really good mood and the music helps a lot. But she only translated random chapters! Why??? I want to finish the story. Just felt that I needed to rant, has anyone else read this story?

    Hi Nina,

I didn’t know there is an audiobook. Can you give me the link? I “read” the ebook by listening to Google Translate.

Here are my thoughts on the story. But my comments have LOTS of spoilers, so don’t read if you don’t want MAJOR spoilers.

    It’s on ximalaya.com. http://www.ximalaya.com/#/5085009/album/238366

I like it a lot, but it’s just random chapters. I think they might be ones where major scenes happen with Wei Xi and RSN.

I tend to like Alpha males (guilty pleasure), but RSN was a little too alpha in my book. Rape is hard to come back from, esp that scene she mentions at the end where she had fell down and her head was bleeding. It’s just a bit sickening. And the leaving her to get tortured and die bit was too much for me. Letting her die and just be an easy death is one thing (even though it’s still wrong considering that he knew she was innocent in the whole matter), but to sort of plot it out and let her get tortured to death is just evil.

The boxer was nice, a little too vanilla though. I think I preferred LLC. He was mean, but at least he was interesting and did care when she was hurt. He did put her before himself when he liked her. I think I need to read the marriage bits, maybe that’ll help me like RSN. Google translate is just hard to listen too, it’s so robotic.

    Nina,

Yes, some of the highlights of the book were the scenes of LLC falling in love with Wei Xi. The guy had always had his eyes on her. He just never acted on his interest because she was RSN’s woman. But then, after Wei Xi and RSN had broken up, he really stepped up his game. I didn’t really like him at first. To me, he was really the same type of character as RSN and just as tyrannical and mean, but he proved me wrong. He had a huge soft spot for Wei Xi and was wiling to move mountains and battle another blood thirsty tiger to protect her. I loved the scene where LLC rescued Wei Xi from Wei Xi’s friend’s boyfriend’s bad crowd of friends. And also I loved the scene where he was just beside himself with happiness when she invited him to a meal and gave him a calendar that she had designed. He was definitely an alpha male, but with a conscience and huge soft spot when he had finally fallen for a woman.

I think RSN didn’t know how to love Wei Xi until the end. As cruel as he was during the beginning and middle, he was nothing but a pitiful man at the conclusion. If I remember correctly, at the end, he was quietly watching Wei Xi sleep, and his heart ached painfully. He admitted to himself that he finally realized that there was no part of Wei Xi that he didn’t love, and the more in love he was with her, the more frightened he was of losing her. He reminisced how she had once loved him unconditionally, and how he didn’t need to resort to lying to her, making up fake stories of their past together, and praying that she wouldn’t regain her memory. He admitted to himself how much he regretted his treatment of her and how he knew he didn’t deserve her love but still selfishly wanted to keep her as long as possible by his side. So yes, I think RSN truly did love Wei Xi, but he just realized too late. It was already all too late.

I think the story should have ended with Wei Xi finding love with LLC, while RSN lived on in regret. I think poor Wei Xi deserved some happiness.

Heys, I agree that the highlights of the book was LLC falling in love with WX and I also thought that the story should have ended with the two of them finding love with each other. I really loved the scene where WX agreed to give LLC a chance to have a relationship with her by telling him the phrase “柳暗花明”. And LLC was so deliriously happy!!! (I googled the phrase: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E6%9F%B3%E69A%97%E8%8A%B1%E6%98%8E%E5%8F%88%E4%B8%80%E6%9D%91)

Then the author had to go off the deep end with RSN going even crazier and no one is happy in the end :/

Although LLC’s character initially gave me a very bad impression, I believe in second chances so it was nice that he changed for the better after meeting WX. Although he helped RSN to scam WX, I think he thought that RSN truly loved WX and wouldn’t really hurt her. However I can’t say the same for RSN – he truly had no humanity left in him – I find the RSN after marriage very discordant with the behaviour he exhibited earlier on. If he truly loved her, could he have raped her while she was gravely injured with a head injury and bleeding profusely? Shouldn’t he have rushed her to the hospital first?

This book made me feel depressed for awhile but somehow it was strangely addicting when I read it. I think the author writes quite well.

This story is frankly disgusting. It’s as if Fei Yan fulfilled her sadomasochistic fantasies through writing this. Let’s just say it already: RSN is a rapist. RSN periodically rapes and hurts WX, and throughout it all she falls in love with him. He ALMOST RAPES AND BEATS WX TO DEATH. As for LLC, he deceives and abuses WX. I felt absolutely no pity for either. F…. them both, and f… this book.
