Heavy Sweetness, Ash-like Frost (Ashes of Love) 香蜜沉沉烬如霜 by 电线 Dian Xian (HE)

In the prehistoric times, the 200,000 year of Tian Yuan, the flower deity Zi Fen dies after giving birth to a daughter. Before she passed, she fed her daughter the Unfeeling Pill, ordered her subordinates to keep the girl’s birth story a secret and to imprison her within Shui Jing for ten thousand years. The girl’s name is Jin Mi.

Four thousand years later, the Heavenly Emperor’s second son, the Phoenix Fire Deity was entrapped by someone and mistakenly entered Shui Jing. He was saved by the ignorant Jin Mi. After living together for a hundred years, the Fire Deity gradually developed feelings for Jin Mi. Who would have thought that he would be attracted to Jin Mi?

In between the Heavenly World and the Devil World, there is an immeasurably deep River of Forgetfulness, where the war between the Fire Deity and Night Deity finally erupts.

*Love, love, love this book as well as xiaoyyuer's translations:) Anyone know any other book written by this author? Although I like Tang Qi Gong Zi, I find this book better than 3L3W10MPB in term of plot & characters. The story is much more interesting & exciting plus less choppy. The characters are also more endearing & memorable. This is my personal opinion only & I am not criticising 3L3W10MPB so 3L3W's fans, pls don't get annoyed with me. To each its own:)

Although sometime, I get annoyed with Jin Mi for being too naive & clueless, I do enjoy her simple & funny interactions with others. I miss her terribly after she spit out the unfeeling pill. I can feel the love between her & Fire Deity more than the other book. Also, Fire Deity is more likeable as he didn't take Jin Mi's eyes away no matter under what circumstances:P Fire Deity is a tad too serious for my liking. It'll be nice if he is more humorous. Btw, why people say this book is similar to 3L3W as I can't see where is the similarity?

  • There is similarities in the writing style between Tang Qi and Dian Xian I suppose. I don't know where the comparisons come from. I just know that the characters in Tang Qi's stories have more of a 'modern' mentality. They're always poking fun at modern aspects like guy-guy an such.

  • This is one of my faves! The main couple is adorable and hilarious together that one can't help but love them. I've read this so many times that I pretty much have memorized the story, and it never fails to crack me up whenever I re-read it. The disappointing is I think this author has only written 2 novels, right? sigh~~~ Wish the author would write more.

    • she's written 3 books:

       《薄荷荼靡梨花白》
        《香蜜沉沉烬如霜》
        《两只前夫一台戏》

        • I also thought she has 2 books so want to save the 2nd book until the 3rd book is published, lol. Now I can listen to 薄荷荼靡梨花白 but I wonder if 两只前夫一台戏 is nice as google translated it as 2 ex-husbands in a drama??? Yahoo, I found audio book on it.

I like to stock up at least 1 novel from my fav authors for emergency, haha....

          • I've found a link for 两只前夫一台戏. OMG!!!!!!! Soooo happy!!! XDXD. Hope it's as funny and adorable as Heavy Sweetness.

Guess I'll go to sleep verrrry late tonight....lol. I've been staying up til 3AM the past few nights reading, and I have a few more I plan to start on. I've been coming to work looking like death, all pale and tired. Guess I'll look like death again tomorrow^^

    • Hahaha, tell me abt it bcos I look like a ghost now:P I am downloading at lunch time now, muahahah......Btw tell me if the book is nice bcos the title sounds weird. They translated it to Vietnamese?

        • I'll start reading now so I'll update later on how I feel about it. The translator is only 1/3 way through though....aghhhh! My sanity...lol. But it seems the translator is working at a good, steady pace. Are you able to get the entire book in audio? ahhhh, I'm jealous! The Viet title translated into English is the same as the once chancy provided, which is 2 Ex-Husbands on 1 Stage.

For me, the similarity is in the writing style. Both authors have an off-beat, humorous way of writing that cracks me up.

There's been a lot of comparisons between 3W3L10MPB and Heavy Sweetness, probably because both stories are the most popular in the fantasy genre so there's bound to be comparisons? I don't know. But in terms of similarity in characters, I think the main female character in Hua Xu Yin and Jin Mi in Heavy Sweetness are more alike in that they're both way too naive for their own good but absolutely adorable in their bumbling way. Oh, and they're paired with a hot, too-awesome-for-words crown prince XD.

    • I like Hua Xu Yin's Su Yu more. haha But Jin Mi and Ah Fu are indeed very similar like you pointed out.

      • Heehee, I also like Su Yu more than Shu Feng but don't write this on XiaOyuer's tumblr because she & Melanie love Shu Feng, lol. When you mentioned it, I agreed Ah Fu rather than Susu/Bai Qian is more similar to Jin Mi. However HXY is such a sad book. Luckily Ah Fu is so bumbly or else I would have flooded my room with tears:P

Is is not time travel right? I saw genre as fantasy. Because Dian Xian's other novel was time traveler. haha, I hope to sleep by 1am tonight. I have exam tomorrow so need to wake up early tomorrow to cram some more. Last time, I was reading till 12am, and than couldn't go to sleep til 6am in the morning because of anxiety. These books.....really bad for health.

  • Finally, finally got around to reading the epilogues. They are so cute!!!! Though, it seems that Jin Mi doesn't like to 'shuang xiu' with the Phoenix that much... And their little egret son, hehe. It seems that water is more dominant than fire.

I feel somewhat bad for Ren Yu because he is still alone (he just moved from his Xuan Ji Palace to the Heavenly Palace), but I do admire him for allowing Jin Mi to find her own happiness with Xu Feng. He's 1000000x better than his father.

    • You like the book so much, why only now you read the epilogues? I listened to the epilogues so many times I've lost count, haha....Jin Mi regained her cute personality in the epilogues as I feel she become too weepy in the last part of the book. The part on her pregnancy is so funny as well as she teaching the son to fish for a wife:) She is also not that interested in getting 'lingli' anymore which angers Phoenix, heehee...

      • I wanted to savor the bittersweetness of the ending, so I held off on reading the epilogues. And then I got distracted by everything else... I didn't have anything else to listen to today and I remembered that I still haven't listened to the epilogues, so I finally got around to them today.

Ahahaha, only Jin Mi would think of fishing for a mermaid for her son. It's like when she told Xiao Yu Xian Guan that he could buy a mortal wife. :D

The Phoenix and Jin Mi are such an odd but functional couple. I wonder how much lingli Jin Mi has now? What will happen when her lingli surpasses the Phoenix? Hehe.

  • I just started this book today! I must admit that it was hard to start at first coz i got lost in the plot but once I got to the part when Jin Mi meets the "crow", things did start picking up!!

I actually like her! A lot! For being so dimwitted, though no fault of hers since she ate the 陨丹 as a baby, and for being so simple... I think the adjective given her by 飞絮 was 缺心眼 which literally translates to lacking eyes to the heart but I just like her undiscerning she is!

I shall go and continue devouring the book heh!

    • Yes, yes, xiaoyuer & I love this book. I love Jin mi bcos she is so funny & clueless. The audiobook is also good. You ship her with who? I pro Shu Feng, heehee..Xiaoyuer is translating this book. Go to her tumblr for more discussions & information if you need any.

  • Eh? Is this where everyone has been congregating? Xia0yuer is no longer translating the Jin Mi story? :(

Since the translation has stopped, can someone give me a summary of what happens after chapter 6? I have a vague idea, but the details are sort of hazy to me. How did Xu Feng die? How did he revive himself? What happened after his revival? How did he and Jin Mi meet up again? How did Jin Mi die at the end? She did die, didn't she? Because somehow, she was reborn again and somehow Xu Feng knew where to find her reincarnation. What confused me was how Jin Mi seemed to act exactly like her old funny self in the epilogue. Didn't she reincarnate and was technically a different person? How did her reincarnated version attain immortality if she was reborn as a human? How could she remember all the deities (Xu Feng, Ren Yu, etc.) once she reincarnated?

I will say that the epilogue was extremely enjoyable, or from what I could understand of it. Jin Mi did seem to enjoy shuang xiu less than Xu Feng did. Ha. It seemed like she was using sexual distraction whenever Xu Feng was angry with her or if she wanted something from him. Their little son was adorable. I also thought Xu Feng's intense desire for a baby was cute, too.

Ah, Ren Yu. I feel really sorry for him, especially when Jin Mi told him earnestly that he must be happy, too, and he just smiled gently before leaving. Jin Mi thought he was happy, but I don't think he was. He attained his throne, but it was just an empty victory. Xu Feng was the one who really won; he had a loving family, happiness, whereas Ren Yu had his title of Heavenly Emperor, a cold substitute in my opinion. But I was glad the author didn't randomly give Ren Yu some love interest at the end. It would have seemed as if she was merely trying to "pretty up" the ending unnecessarily.

  • Dropping in here from the thread on Eastern Palace/Goodbye My Princess, where Mei has asked: does the Empress, i.e., the Fire Deity’s mother, ever get her comeuppance?

And Peanuts (knowing that I have been rabidly blitzing through this book) has bade me to drop the answer here (behold your power, P, for I have obeyed as you commanded - :P)

Spoilers ahead for the Empress and Emperor's fates.

So, the Heavenly Emperor (Fire and Night's father in this case) punished the Heavenly Empress as follows: "Arrest the Heavenly Empress and incarcerate her in the Pi Suo Prison. She is deposed of her position as heavenly empress and [her name] is forbidden to enter the Immortal Records forevermore."

I don't think there was any other punishment other than this.

As for the Heavenly Emperor, (from what I gathered) he was exiled by the Night Deity to an island outside of the heavens.
