Another time travel novel (aren’t we all sick of those?) but this one is relatively low stress level after Feng Qiu Huang and BBJX. I love the characters in this book, everyone from the idealistic heroine to the cheerful, bustling housekeeper. I loved the sibling love, the strength of friendships, and even the petty rivalries between the fathers. The romance was nicely written, especially the first half. I have some personal issues with the hero after 140 episodes (and more appear in the latter half), but the first half is definitely worth a twirl. Had me staying up until the crack dawn, thirsting to know what happens next!

ooh that means it’s addicting! I always go around saying I’m allergic to time-travel, but in the end I think I’ll try anything as long as i’m given a green light hehe

I’ve always wanted to try this novel and finally did get started with it last month, but I last till the moment he woke up yet. Got sidetracked with another book. I like the foundation though, so I’ll likely give it a second go.

*Hey atsu, does this book has a happy ending? I am scare to start a book not knowing the ending as I don’t want to open my flood gate:) yet I feel thrill & excitement chasing the book. This is such a dilemma. Because you recommended, I’ll read this book after I fnish 花千骨:) Anyone please upload this book so I can rant about it & not hijack this page:P I am abt 10% into the book & I think it may have a sad ending. A few guys have appeared but  I don’t know who is the leading man. Chancy, you might like this book as it feels like your Flowers of Love:)

I wonder why there are so many time travel novels. I feel that those authors are just following the trend or an easy way out to explain the modern mentality of the characters or change in characters. I don’t think the time travel element has been put to good use in most of those novels. I minus point for those books which use the time travel element unnecessarily:P

*Hey peanuts! The ending for 爱莫能弃 is very happy (to the point I think it’s a little sappy), so no worries there. The whole story in general is rather sunny. I felt like I didn’t like the second half as much as the first half because it was so sappy it was almost like a fanfic of some sort. But then again, the actual novel proper ends on Episode 92, and the rest of it is all epilogue, so I guess the sappiness is warranted?

As for HQG, you can go to ysx8.com and download 1-120 in a compressed file. Just paste the file into the search blurb (I think you might need the full title 仙侠奇缘之花千骨), and near the top of the page, there will be a line that says something like 打包下载, and you can click on the highlighted text (I think it’s blue?) that will take you to the download page. You’ll want to download from 115.com, and you click on the second line in the column to the left, which will take you to the download page. You may need to register to download from 115.com, but it’s very easy. The registration is in the top right hand corner, and you can just enter your email and desired password. And they’ll send you an email and once you log in to the download page, the hidden link will come in. You want to press the green button. As for 121-139, downloading one by one from ysts8.com is probably your best bet. Hope this helps!

I’m not going to have internet for a while, but I’ll be back soon! Don’t forget me 🙂

Are you gonna start this book because of the good ending, haha? Btw I left you a msg on your blog abt spoiler for Song in the Peach Blossoms.

Hmmm, it says that I’m missing a plug in on both websites and you seem to need at create an account with them to download the audio files. 🙁

I started the book because I thought the premise was interesting. Angry girl tortures guy who doesn’t like her but another girl’s soul takes over her body and the guy begins to fall in love with her?

Dong Yu Jie is one vicious girl – she rapes and tortures poor Xie Shen Yan. I’m glad she travelled through time and married Song Huan Yu’s cheating fiancee because those two people really do deserve each other. So far, this story seems a little too modern to be set in an dynastic time period and the fact that everyone just calmly accepts that the spirit of Song Huan Yu took over Dong Yu Jie’s body is a little jarring to me. If anything, the story kind of feels like it should be set in Min Guo.

Peanutsfan, I just saw your comment. Will reply on my tumblr.

I can’t read so I never create an a/c with the 2 sites to download MP3 files from them daily:P Are you using ipad? You usually use tshu6 site right? Do you download or listen fr that site? This is because I downloaded but can’t play the f4v file.

Rape & torture the guy? Wah, so R rated, didn’t get banned in China? If I listen to this, I’ve to make sure I am not on a public transport, haha….You & your love for ‘min guo’ era just because of Wallace’s TLTSILY:P

Atsu-chan, we shall miss you so pls come back soon:)

Yay, I downloaded a newer version of Silverlight and Flip4Mac so it works now! I’m using my Macbook Pro and I usually use Tingshu8. I download the files and use a converter to convert to mp3.

Don’t worry, it’s not graphic. Xiu Hua (the maid) just tells Song Huan Yu that Dong Yu Jie ‘took him forcefully’. I don’t think China has stringent rules for books like they do for dramas.

And yes, I’ve been interested in the Min Guo Era ever since I watched Feng Chuan Mu Dan (The Royal Embroidery Workshop) and TLTSILY. Kind of off topic, but Feng Chuan Mu Dan is a Li Xiao Ran and Hawick Lau pairing. It’s a beautiful story but it’s also full of Chinese pride/Japanese antagonism.

It can’t possibly really mean she raped him right? lol I just thought she took him to her house forcefully. I’ll pretend that’s what happen. hehe

For me Min Guo Era is not my favorite. I think it’s because of all those CCTV Min Guo dramas.

Pls tell me or give me the link to download the converter from f4v file to MP3. I google & found many online but don’t know which one is without virus, free & easy to use:)

I also like Min Guo era but for dramas like TLTSILY & FCMD only. Some of the CCTV dramas I saw of that era put me to sleep:P Yup, I watched FCMD & prefer Li Xiao Ran there than TLTSILY. The subject matter is also more interesting abt chinese embroidery but poor Hawick. I prefer TLTSILY ending:)

    Here’s the one I use:
    For PC – http://www.pavtube.com/flv-converter/
    For Mac – http://www.pavtube.com/flv-converter-mac/

Just download the free trial because it works for converting f4v to mp3 files.

Yeah, I also used to dislike Min Guo Era dramas because I always thought they were boring, but I think the first one that I really enjoyed was Da Ya Huan (Pretty Maid), but it was FCMD and TLTSILY that really made me love that time period.

Dong Yu Jie is very extreme!! yes this sound scary but interesting at the same time, I mean it’s a good thing the girl takes over her body stopping her from continuing with her crazy ways. This Dong Yu Jie takes the label ‘spoiled rich brat’ to new levels.

So I finished the novel (well, the main part, not the eleven epilogues) and here are some of my feelings (SPOILER WARNING):

The main plot is a little weak because it completely revolves around how Xie Shen Yan and Song Huan Yu cannot be together due to family opposition, their respective stations in life, etc.
    It’s not a love triangle.
Xie Shen Yan is ridiculously good at tugging at my heartstrings. I pretty much cried for half the novel…
I’m a little disappointed that the author chose to place this is a dynastic setting, but did not use the rich historical backdrop to further her story.
This is probably the first time travel novel in which the female lead lets EVERYONE know that she is another person who’s spirit took over the girl’s body.
I don’t exactly like the author’s writing style, especially how she focuses so much on dialogue. It got a little tiring when all I was reading was the verbal sparring between Huan Yu and Qian Yan (the guy who marries Xiu Hua)
Xie Shen Yan is impotent, I was totally waiting for him to recover but he didn’t (maybe he will in the epilogues?)
It has a very modern feel, especially how openly affectionate Shen Yan and Huan Yu are with each other. They kiss each other (a lot!) and sleep together in the same bed even before getting married. The author isn’t shy at all about mentioning Shen Yan’s naked body and he is weirdly okay with seeing him naked or only in underwear…
I always got the feeling that Huan Yu’s love for Shen Yan was more of a mother’s love for a child who completely relies on her, rather than the love between a couple.
I hate Xie Shen Yan’s father. Ugh, that beastly man.
I really liked how much feeling was the author put into Xie Shen Yan’s character. He doesn’t speak very much (he was mute for the first half of the story) but even his simple nods and coughs can make my heart hurt for him. T.T

Overall, I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as well written or compelling as I expected. 6/6 (first number is how much I personally like the story/ second number is how qualitatively good it was).

lol When you say everything he does pulls at your heart, makes me want to read more now. haha Very bian-tai, I crave that feeling in novels.

What do you mean by he hasn’t recovered by end of novel? meaning his injuries that he suffered from when Dong Yu Jie was still in that body?

  21. xia0yuer
    xia0yuer August 7, 2012 at 6:54 am |

Dong Yu Jie raped him and used a knife to torture him down there. Because of the wounds she inflicted, he became impotent. Because of what Dong Yu Jie did to him, Shen Yan had PTSD and would start quaking in fear every time Huan Yu got near or touched him. He knows that she isn’t Dong Yu Jie, but since she’s in the same body that tortured him, he was unable to control his body’s reaction to her. When Shen Yan and Huan Yu began to share a room, she would kiss him all over his body every night. At first, he would only quake in fear but by the end, he would groan (from pain or arousal?).I thought she would somehow miraculous cure his impotency but they still were able to be intimate at the end.

Ahhh, I feel like I’m talking about porn but I swear, it’s not as bad as it sounds!

haha i know your pain lmao. These books never warn how detail the scenes get. But if you start a novel, unless it’s really badly written or read or the plot sucks big-time will usually not put it down. Kind of freaked out about the whole raping situation between Shen Yan and Yu Jie but other than that, I’d say only other hurdle for me reading this book is the outright acceptance of Huan Yu’s taking over Yu Jie’s body. I just appreciate it so much when time-travel stories, the author puts attention to the possibility of the consequences of letting someone know that. People of the past are superstitious, I don’t see it any different from telling someone ‘I’m a ghost taken over your lady’s body!!” and expect everyone to be cool with it. I’d expect them to stone me to death haha. But Dong Yu Jie is scarier than a ghost I suppose…

6/6 is still above average I suppose! Always craving for a heart-tugging from stories so I will still look up for this one.

Lets start reading/listening together this weekend, haha…I’ve finished downloading all the chapters:P

I do not like the time travelling element in all the books. There are just too many books on time travelling, no wonder China is banning them. The author can just say the leading lady got hit in the head & turn over a new leaf, no need to be the spirit of a different person:P If you time travels, you adapt because if you tell ppl you are fr another time zone, it’ll such freak them out. If someone tells me she is from the future, I’ll ask her to see a psychologist:)

yeah, I’m starting to wonder why they can’t just do something else simulating the affect of someone time-traveling lol like eating wrong medicine, possessed by a ghost (horror?) waking up from a coma/fever or something else. I would totally buy it.

Hi Atsu, I tried to listen to this novel & fast fwd here & there for 50 chapters but still can’t get into the novel. The leading guy barely speaks & when he did, it is awful. The voice for the audiobook is shocking, sound so hoarse & weak like an old man. I cringe every time I listen to him:( On top of that, the plot isn’t exciting or interesing & there is not enough humour to sustain me:( Sorry, I am giving up this book as it is rather boring & draggy & I am one impatient girl:P

  28. xia0yuer
    xia0yuer August 14, 2012 at 3:19 pm |

The reason his voice is so hoarse is because Dong Yu Jie forced pepper water down his throat, causing him to lose his voice. Yeah, the plot is a little weak, but I found the scenes between the OTP extremely touching. I still haven’t finished the epilogues though.
