Aww, this sounds sweet, but I’m not really sure where this story is headed… Xie Xiao Qiu sounds awesome but I’m not sure about Wang Li Chuan….

You’re so good at finding books, Peanuts!

thank you very much for your reply 🙂 they do have an interesting synopsis, I must say.

    Peanuts:
Eri, as far as I know there is no English translation of this book. English translation of Chinese book is as rare as gold:( So far, I think there are only about 10 of them out there, mainly ancient novels. I have listed all the novels with English translation in the menu. If I miss any or anyone is going to translate any, pls let me know. You will need to wait for the drama release in 2014 as it is highly likely with English subtitles.

Godfrey Gao is HOT. But I typically dislike male leads like Li Chuan, who think they can just leave when something is wrong without discussing with his significant other.

pm, I think the drama is suppose to come out mid-2014 so we still have a while to wait.

yes yes…..the “i think i know whats best for you” syndrome……

ooohh….so long more the wait…….but from what i saw of the trailer and the novel…i think its abit different…..no mention of a jeanette in the novel….

and yes…he is super handsome….why cant we find a yummy looking and practical man in real life??? 🙁

Hi peanut! 🙂 May I know if the ending in the novel was a sad one? I can’t read Chinese characters huhu so I won’t be able to read the novel. Hope you can email me regarding what happened in the book thanks so much!

Can’t wait for the drama to be released. 😀

    Peanuts: SPOILER ALERT

Heehee, are u Godfrey’s fan:)? The novel has a happy ending where Li Chuan came back and got married with Xiao Qiu. They even had a child in the epilogue. But some complain the ending is too hasty & arupt. However the drama might not follow the book ending.

BBJX didn’t follow the book ending but both also ended in tragedy:( Da Mo Yau will follow the book ending but might need to get changed to be broadcasted. Don’t count on Yun Zhong Ge to follow the book ending which might be a good thing. Best Times will most probably have a different ending with Wallace getting the girl as the book has the other guy ending up with the girl.

    Thanks so much dear peanuts! I hope the drama will have a better ending if they change it I still hope the main characters will have their happy ending. I’ll trust the director and screenwriters I believe they can execute it well. (;

Yes I am! Since Bull Fighthing, his character name was Tank I think, I kept my eyes on him since then. Hihi. He’s incredibly good looking as time passes he keeps getting more handsome gahh he’s my ultimate crush. Can’t wait for this drama and the adaptation film, city of bones. I’m excited to see him play a gay character. 🙂 have you read the series?

  9. Jenina
    Jenina April 23, 2013 at 6:04 am |

Peanuts: I didn’t read city of bones, no time, haha…I also didn’t read this book. Just read some comments & the ending for you:) Some prefer a tragic ending as they find it more memorable & in line with the tone of this book where both of them mutual torture each other:( The writer also loves to torture her male lead making him suffer the most compared to the female lead. Most readers tend to like the male lead better and will like to read more from his perspective as this novel is written from the female’s point of view. No matter how much the girl tried to move on, she failed bcos of the awesomeness of the male lead. Thus your Godfrey should melt your heart & make your crush turned to love, lol.

How sweet of you to look into this novel. Thanks so much dear. 🙂
You should read the series when you find time it’ll be worth it. There are so many characters in the book and the world there is amazing. 🙂
I prefer happy endings more. Hope the two leads in the drama will have their happy ending. I agree, especially when the character is played by Godfrey. :)) I bet the female lead finds Godfrey gorgeous and maybe drools over his hotness sometimes when they have the kiss scenes and all that. Ooh I’m so jealous just thinking about it. 😛 Yeah for sure! I’ll definitely fall in love with him even more. :”>

Oh no….I’m on episode 19 today…..and I’m getting sad..and irritated with mu yong fei…..she has an irritating face and an irritating voice..irritating attitude and irritating hairstyle….

Yep I watched tat one already…..but the girl looks so much older than Wallace….sheesh…she looks like his aunty more than his wife at the end…..I pity the dr guy tho…forgot his name…but I would like for him to have a better ending…….I told yah…I like sad romantic long suffering man…..hahaha..

Hey, since you are so bored, do you want to help out & do translation? You can write a detailed summary or do scene translation of your fav book or scene in English for people who love Chinese novel but can’t understand Chinese. We’ve about 100 books here so should keep you occupied for at least a few yrs:P Your research skill isn’t that bad since you found us:P

Haha, who doesn’t start with BBJX? Did you read Hui3r’s blog challenge ‘The C-novel that Started it All’? We become addicted to C-novel after BBJX & Mrs K’s translation. We can’t seem to find much info in English compared to many blogs that have drama info so we decided to set up blogs to share & help out the novel addicts, as well as fangirl audiobooks, lol.

I don’t really like FWSC’s novels bcos the males are usually too alpha:( Hawick is cute but dislike his character in SWAK, so scary & forceful. The girl is like a door mat so I decided not to post the book, heehee…Btw if you like it, you can post the book here with English translated synopsis. I’ll give you author access.

Haha, many ppl also have the same complain as you. Come on the girl is not that bad. It is worth the watch as I only have eyes on Wallace, lol. Since you like the dr guy, you should read the novel bcos auntie married dr in the book.

Koalaplayground has info on Godfrey’s drama Hello Gorgeous & Queen of SOP.
    http://koalasplayground.com/2013/03/04/addicted-to-new-c-drama-hello-gorgeous-with-enchanting-li-xin-ru-and-godfrey-gao/

You can stalk that blog as well, lol. Copy & paste that two drama names in Chinese and English to search in youtube. I think you’ll find the drama & if not google them.

Hi I read koalasplayground too! 🙂 im glad i found this website to share my love for chinese novel. im from singapore so im actually the only one reading chinese novels among my friends. Do you have any other Chinese novel blog such as xiaoyuer? Thanks!

I like this book. Made me sleep at 5 am because I couldn’t stop.

Li Chuan is such a nice guy. But he is really really really stubborn. “let’s break up, i’m leaving. It’s better for you if you don’t know the reason” -__- He couldn’t be more cruel to disappear like that when they were madly in love. But he didn’t have other choice. He didn’t want to see her suffer. In other people eyes, he is perfect but he knows that he is not perfect. When he can’t take care of her, he doesn’t want to be her burden. Moreover her father was against their relationship. lol at the number of times they said “it’s over” “move on” but in the end they can’t.

I love how Xiao Qiu tried to plan everything (yoga, run, dance, join the vegan club…) to have a busy schedule. He was so cute when he tried to stop her to smoke. The side characters like his brother and good friend René are lovable.

I can’t wait for the drama adaptation because Godfrey fits my Li Chuan perfectly. But for the main actress it’s not how I imagine Xiao Qiu. >.< The drama seems to be very different from the novel.

Have only finished chapter 7 and am liking it so far. Trying to avoid reading all the comments for spoilers, but I am so glad it’s a HE. If it wasn’t for that in the title, I might have already given up and read the ending first lol. The whole “flashback” deal scares me that I’ll fall in love with the characters and then be heart broken.

So far really liking both leads. She’s got spunk and he’s such a gentleman. 🙂

  22. LilZah
    LilZah March 25, 2014 at 5:31 am |

Done reading! Thanks peanuts for the recommendation. I barely slept and read through the read of it in one go. =/

I continued to like both leads throughout the read of the book despite the male lead was being a bit too much of an noble idiot. I’m glad the author didn’t have the female lead wallow in her misery and allowed her to stick to her persistence. The side characters were likable, no antagonist. Not sure that was a good thing since there was really just that one “mystery” tying the the whole more than first half of the story together.

The middle of the book was a bit slow, and the conclusion seemed a little too convenient and quick. I’m glad it had a happy ending and the epilogues made up a good bit for the sudden ending. If it wasn’t for those probably would have been a little annoyed that the author took readers through all the angst and didn’t spend time on the time they had together.

Overall, this was a good read. Looking forward to seeing the drama!

After reading this, I really wanted to go back and read parts again, but I read Chinese so slowly. I know that I’m going to want to read the whole thing again when the series comes out…

Therefore, I started my own translations. It’s mainly so that I can read it again, and so that I can pour through the novel easily later on. 🙂 Goal is to translate at least two chapters a week unless I’m traveling. Enjoy!

Does blind female lead with happy ending count? I took decembi’s recommendation on “3 Marriages” and it is very good. If you need a handicap male lead , the same author also have a story on a guy on wheelchair titled “Melting Master Rong” but I haven’t read that.

You can read about these books under the Ming Yue Ting Feng posts at SSB, or at her blog http://onesecondspring.blogspot.hk/2014/02/ancient-doting-wife-series-by-ming-yue.html.

Hey, hey, I didn’t say the drama will have happy or sad ending because I don’t know. Of course I want a happy ending but i also can accept a sad ending, lol. Well, I personally think there should be a happy ending. If not, the director will be pelted with rotten eggs considering there are hordes of Godfrey’s fans out there, haha….In the meantime, you can watch Godfrey in his other dramas. Oh, he has such a godly face & godly name, lol.

Haha, you are slow:P I won’t spoil you but suffice to say Sealed with a Kiss drama has a different ending fr the book. Are you a FWSC’s fan bcos I saw you stalking Seoul’s blog, lol? Have you watched Too Late to Say I Love You? If not, watch it because the drama has a better ending compared to the book. Most importantly my Wallace Chung looks good in uniform. Haha, yes I am his fangirl. Well, I like all handsome guys, lol.

not a fan of Godfrey, but looking forward since it’s mentioned by my fellow WC fangirl.. LOLS..

I rushed the boys to bed earlier to finish watching remembering Lichuan. SPOILER….. seriously, I’m not the spoiler… it’s this whole damn drama. It really should have been called “GO TO HELL, XIAO QIU!!!!!” So everything from when Xiao Qiu leaves LC after he tries to commit suicide, by running away… was penned by LC after he reads her novel. It makes my blood boil!!!!
Take away all my happiness!!! the sweet redemption…. The epiphany that LC that bought him back to XQ, never happens. So all those years apart…with her waiting ..the results, fruitless. A story about a love that was not to be…just lots of angst and frustration!!
I didn’t mind watching the stupid scenes, where he, LC throws everything away.leaving XQ nothing more than resembling a pathetic punching toy. He knocks her down, she comes back up for more. I endured all that…because I wanted to see the ending. See them together.
Yes, granted LC also got the short end of the stick. He was fighting a losing battle.
But didn’t he made everything worse, by being so stubborn??
He had lung cancer, she was seventeen. In his mind, she was too young. Okay
He under went chemo , she wrote him hundreds of letters, in the drama..it was thousands .think of this unwavering love…how can he not realize the depth of her love?
He got better, he can ski. At that point. He should have made it his priority to go find her. He owe her that much.
Life is unpredictable, anyone can die at any moment, LC!!!! Instead of suffering on different corners of the world, find XQ and mend her heart.
    Jumping into a dumpster…stupid!!!!
    Asking her to move on….dumb!!!!
Not visiting her, when she was hospitalized. ….WTF!!!!
Skipping out of town to comit suicide. ….his brain must have been too fried!!!
You are hurting this girl so much….it made me sob just as much as XQ.
How can anyone so smart be so darn f-ING stupid!!!!
What will happen to XQ? What is her ending?
How does it end for anyone who loved so entirely?
They would rather live with the memories, then try to love again.
XQ will be her brother’s favorite baby sitter for his son. She lives with Mia, until Mia dies
    Continue translations, travel when possible.
In the end Her epitaph will read “my love never will never move on, I have and will love LC forever” XXQ

I really want to watch the drama b’coz i kind of like the novel…But now i think i need to stay away from that drama for the sake of my poor little heart..So the ending is really like that? The drama has garned MANY fans and love in China though. It was because I continuously saw it popping up on Weibo which is why I gave it a try without having read the novel. Even the comments on LeTV (the drama’s official online broadcast) were almost 90% positive which is really RARE because people tend to post a lot of bullshit comments on there. It has a rating of 8.4 on Douban, which is not bad for a C-drama (to compare: Yangmi’s My Dear Translator has a rating of 4.9 on Douban) especially coming from a book that is loved by so many fans.

As for the ending.. I liked it. I know I’m one of the minority who is actually “satisfied” with an ending in which Lichuan dies. It’s bittersweet I think. And it still aches my heart a bit when I think about it. I mean, logically speaking.. How could he not die? The guy has like what…? Bone cancer, one of his lung cut out, zero immunity, and was on the edge of being diagnosed with leukemia. His whole body suffered from terminal diseases. Emotionally speaking, I think the sad ending really complements the idea that Lichuan wrote Xiaoqiu a happy ending for her “Lichuan’s Past” because that is how he wished it could have ended for them. And all the letters he wrote for her birthdays in the future. Sniff. They were both just tooooooooo stubborn. He pushed her away because he didn’t want her to see him dying and suffering in his death bed. Sigh, selfish indeed, but I can’t help but feel heartbroken for him because the guy was just so sick. Especially when he was so upset, his mind and heart shattered into pieces that he actually drank alcohol, which could be fatal to him =( (but really…. dude?). He did wanted to propose to her 4 years ago, but backed out when his health heavily deteriorated to the point of almost facing death again. From his POV, it was too hard to ask for Xiaoqiu to stay beside him, having to cope with not only his physical disability but now also his terminal disease while not knowing when he is going to die. She was merely 20 years old at that time and she was already traumatized with sickness and hospitals when her mom deceased. Once he found out that she loved him too deeply, sending him emails every day over the past 4 years not being able to move on, he COULDN’T ask her to stay beside him because he loved her as much as she loved him, so he didn’t want her to cope with all the shit regarding his health. So he’d rather be an asshole and have her hate him. Until the situation messed up ofcourse since he couldn’t hold back his own feelings either. As Xiaoqiu says in the end: both of them were too draggy in their relationship. Lichuan wanting to part from Xiaoqiu, but unable to. Xiaoqiu clinging onto him even to the point of eh… almost raping him, when he tried to act like an asshole to her. If only Lichuan’s heart was harsh enough to not come back to China to see Xiaoqiu who he thought had given up on life. If only Xiaoqiu could move on, face his rejections and let him go… Then there would be no drama at all. LOL.

I was so heartbroken after watching the drama that I couldn’t sleep so I stayed up until 4am reading the book so I could get some closure. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think that the drama was actually better than the book in many ways…

I also felt like they jumped through too many characters in the novel, and thought that the drama did a better job of just cutting out some characters and combining some roles. I liked how Xiao Guan and Xie Jing Wen played a much bigger role in the drama, and how their characters were developed. Despite being disappointed that WJC wasn’t gay (and dating Rene?), it’s a still Chinese drama and I thought the interactions between XJW and WJC were hilarious.

I liked WLC’s grandpa better in the book, but I found Ai Ma/Emma’s storyline pretty boring the drama. I thought that Xiao Qiu was waaay too clingy and violent in the drama, and I was cringing so hard every time she gets physical with him while he says no. BUT, I liked that they aged XQ up to 20 and WLC up to 27 (?) because a 25y/o in a relationship with a 17y/o… is just really dodgy. Like, if I was XQ’s dad and some 25y/o rich guy was dating my 17y/o daughter and buying her expensive things, I’d probably tear him a new one too >_>

And now the elephant in the room… I think that it was a fitting ending that WLC died, and that XQ moved on even if it made my heart hurt TT_TT I was smiling all the way through the ending that WLC wrote, but I suspected that it wasn’t real. I feel like XQ’s love for WLC was validated by the happy ending that he wrote for her, because it proves that he really loved her too, but she moved on and let go of him like he wanted to and lived life for herself. I thought that the drama was heading to that that conclusion, because the entire thing showed how unhealthy her love for him was and how much he wanted her to let go, so I felt like the ending brought the story to a full circle. I think that the book ending was fine though, if a little abrupt and rushed, because I felt that the tone was lighter and it didn’t go as in depth for WLC’s side.

Ahh, WLC was an noble idiot to the extreme, but I loved his character so much. And it helps that he was played by Godfrey (♥ω♥*)
