I was the cannon fodder villainess in a xianxia novel.

Highborn, untouchable, reckless. I trampled over others at will. Stupid, vicious and admittedly beautiful.

That, at least, was how the girl who stole my body chose to describe me.

She had a strategy system at her side, guiding her to “redeem” a man destined to one day plunge the Three Realms into chaos, to keep him from turning dark.

Every time I saw her wear my face, flaunt my name, and then lower herself before that worthless brat who wasn’t even worthy to carry my shoes, bowing and scraping like a dog, I wanted nothing more than to tear them both to pieces.

What I hated most was that no one around me noticed anything wrong. Even if they did, they thought the imposter was a better version of me. My own family and friends betrayed me, showering her with more affection than they had ever given me.

My resentment grew with each passing day, until the story reached its end when, before all their friends and family, the two of them held a grand wedding.

On that day, the system gave her a choice: stay in this world with the male lead for a lifetime of love, or return to reality.

After much hesitation, she chose the latter.

The moment she left, I returned to my body. I opened my eyes and there he was. The so-called redeemed villain stood before me, gazing at me with eyes brimming with tenderness, and placed an exquisite token of love into my hand.

He said the hairpin could break his undying body, that he was entrusting me with the only blade that could kill him, to prove his devotion.

I accepted the hairpin, deeply moved. Then, with a smile, I turned it in my hand and drove the sharp point straight into his chest.

Clutching his wound, he stared at me in disbelief. “Why?” he asked.

I widened my eyes innocently, lips curling into a smile. “I just wanted to see if it worked. Who would’ve thought it really did?”

And with that, I pushed the hairpin two inches deeper into his heart.
