Synopsis

In the 1990s, Gu Qiao ran into Luo Peiyin again in the lobby of a five-star hotel.

By then, she had already earned an amount of money that her eighteen-year-old self could never have imagined, and she was preparing to expand her business even further.

She sat across from Peter, drinking coffee. Peter was an employee of LC Company stationed in the city; like most expatriate staff, he lived long-term in this very hotel. Peter felt somewhat put out, because Gu Qiao’s gaze kept drifting—almost unconsciously—toward his Chinese boss.

Synopsis Two

“When I was eighteen, I really envied the little maid next door. Once she got her pay, she could dress herself up in all kinds of bright colors.”

Luo Peiyin sounded as though he were hearing a joke. “Then how did you change later?”

“The more you see, the more you want.” Gu Qiao suddenly flashed a smile at Luo Peiyin. “So I still have to thank Cousin for taking a poor relative like me out to see the world.”

When Gu Qiao was eighteen, she called him ‘Cousin’ with a warmth that bordered on excessive. Luo Peiyin did not appreciate people who lacked a sense of boundaries. But his disapproval was too subtle; at the time, Gu Qiao wasn’t very good at reading people, so she failed to notice it.

Summary 1

In the 1990s, Gu Qiao met Luo Pei Yin again in the lobby of a five-star hotel.

By then, she had earned a fortune that she could never have imagined at eighteen and was preparing to expand her business further.

She sat opposite Pete, drinking coffee. Pete was an employee of LC Company stationed in the city, and like most foreign employees, he was based at this hotel. Pete was a little disappointed because Gu Qiao’s gaze kept involuntarily drifting towards his Chinese boss.

Summary 2

“When I was eighteen, I envied the nanny next door; she could dress herself up in all sorts of colors after getting her salary.”

Luo Pei Yin seemed to be listening to a joke: “So how did you change later?”

“The more I saw, the more I wanted.” Gu Qiao suddenly smiled at Luo Pei Yin, “I still have to thank my cousin for introducing this poor relative to the world.” When Gu Qiao was eighteen, her dotingly nicknaming him “cousin” were excessive; Luo Pei Yin didn’t appreciate people without boundaries. But his disapproval was too subtle, and back then, Gu Qiao, wasn’t very good at reading between the lines and didn’t notice.
