Did A’Jiao Enter The Reincarnation Cycle Today? 阿娇今天投胎了吗 by 怀愫 Huai Su (HE)

A’Jiao had been a ghost in Fengdu for many, many years,
Bearing witness to her numerous acquaintances arriving and leaving
Only her; she’s the only one who’s always left behind, unable to enter the reincarnation cycle, and unable to experience rebirth
One day, Meng Po revealed the critical key to A’Jiao: Her inability to reincarnate, was due to her possession of a long-cherished wish which has yet to be fulfilled.
Sudden realization dawned on A’Jiao. Liu Che – that brat – he still owed her a golden house!
Build me my golden house, I want to reincarnate!

A’Jiao originally approached Xiang Yun Du with the sole intention of extracting her golden house from him.
And yet somehow, through the extraction process, she inadvertently offered herself up in the process?
This is a story that chronicles the reincarnation journey of Chen A’Jiao, the constant fixture in the Underworld.

  • Hi VicoSDL,

It's a really interesting premise (and concept) which, unfortunately, does not exactly translate very well in the summary. This novel actually plays on real life historical characters Chen A'Jiao and Liu Che (Emperor Wu of Han), and his famous promise to build A'Jiao a golden house after they're married. Unfortunately, before Liu Che manages to build the promised golden house for A'Jiao, their relationship sours, and A'Jiao was deposed as empress. The novel begins after A'Jiao's death, as she remains stuck in the Underworld, unable to reincarnate due to her unfulfilled wish of being gifted with a golden house.

A'Jiao, with the help of several demons in the Underworld, manages to obtain the temporary ability to return to the human world for 12 months in order to extract a golden house from Xiang Yun Du (Liu Che's reincarnation). I would note, however, that the novel does not merge Liu Che and Xiang Yun Du together as characters (and they remain very much separate individuals with their own personalities and quirks) - so no, we do not get to read about Liu Che's redemption arc. Rather, Xiang Yun Du is introduced to us as a simple, warm-hearted police officer who had recently tendered due to his disillusionment after failing to discover the cause of his mentor's death despite launching numerous investigations. Just then, A'Jiao arrives, and with her supernatural ability (to see and communicate with supernatural beings), she manages to discover the true cause of Xiang Yun Du's mentor's death. Through this incident, Xiang Yun Du also manages to obtain a job posting similar to that of a Grim Reaper (where he directs lost spirits in the human world to the Underworld, in order for such spirits to enter into the Reincarnation Cycle), and thus begins Xiang Yun Du's and A'Jiao's journey of working and living together.

All in all, it is a relatively fun and creative novel with an interesting premise, and good humor to boot - do give it a try when you have the time / energy!
