At their first meeting by the drum stage, after Jing Xian finished his performance, Hua Guan’s heart trembled with emotion.
From then on, everyone in Yun’an knew that the little beggar from the Flower God Temple had become obsessed with the musician from Jieyu Tower.
Providing extra meals, making birthday noodles, shamelessly pestering him to learn the zither, catching fireflies and plucking plum blossoms, and squandering ten taels of silver at once—
Hua Guan performed these “absurdities” for seven years, hoping he would look upon her with joy.
But once the drunken dream shattered, she sighed over her unrequited love; with a dead heart, she departed for a distant land.
The plum blossoms have fallen, the firefly bag is empty, and words of regret come too late. Only a portrait remains to accompany the “white ghost” of the ruined temple.
Jing Xian endured six years of “lovesick suffering,” praying that her affection had not yet ceased.
The “Banquet at the Parting Pavilion” suddenly plays; looking back at the person plucking the strings, old friends meet again in the old place.
“After parting from you, the feelings are severed and the kindness is finished. May we each find our own happiness.”
“Hua Guan, do not even think about us ever being even.”
Classic Quotes
☆ Reckless as I am, I always like to dive headfirst into his arms; indifferent as he is, he always likes to push me away.
☆ “Hua Guan, you are innocent and pure; why bother wading through my muddy waters?” “It is no bother. With you here, it is not bitter at all.”
☆ I am indulged in everything from the past seven years, indulged in that memory of her pursuing and me refusing, indulged in her.
☆ Walking this path, I have braved the thorns and the brambles. It was painful, but in the end, you were finally draped in moonlight and filled with stars. The rivers of Yun’an flow in the depths of your heart, the cool breeze of childhood is tucked in your arms, and the person you admired in your youth is by your side. There are no more regrets.
