In his youth, Yan Junxu encounters a fox who, to save him, leaves a spiritual pearl inside his body. From this moment on, Yan Junxu and the fox demon, Luoluo, are fated to be together.
Years later, Yan Junxu has become a genius in mechanical arts. To fulfill a promise to his benefactor, he heads to the capital city for the imperial exams, carrying a secret manual on mechanical engineering. Meanwhile, Luoluo, lacking her spiritual pearl, is unable to transcend her mortal state. To retrieve the pearl, she transforms into a human and follows Yan Junxu.
