I've been busy reading the novel The Last Immortal, just finished.... the plot takes a while to get going but once it starts, it's really good... HUGE TWIST at the end...

FL (Rosy's character) is a phoenix queen so she resurrects after 1,000 yrs of continuous reincarnation in the Human Realm.... ML and FL meet again and she hates him.... in the last two chapters it's revealed that ML sacrificed himself to rectify mistakes caused by FL, but by the time she finds out, it's too late.... she looks for various ways to bring him back but is told it's impossible because his soul has been destroyed.... turns out he has always been by her side just like he promised (similar to Heavey Sweetness when JM was a tear in XF's eye) becos 1 portion of his soul was trapped in a jade that was used to gather her soul.
He comes back to life, they have a daughter, happy ending.
So the HUGE TWIST is halfway in the plot he has already died and it's just a mirage he created to fool everyone including FL to think he's still alive, but he's already dead.
The ML is always with the FL, whether alive or dead, because that's what he promised her. This is revealed in the end, and to me, it's the most touching thing about this story.
