Chen Jiao is a very simple person, the Changmen Palace and the Long Gate Palace are the two most important things in her life.

Her joys and sorrows can also be summed up in just two words.

Liu Che.

At least, Liu Che thought so!

Liu Che, the emperor of the Han Dynasty, had three women in his life who left their names in history — the one he then favored, Wei Zi Fu, the Northern Beauty Lady Li, and  there’s another one, who went from “being placed in the golden house”* to the hated Changmen Palace, Chen A Jiao.

She was the first who met Liu Che, and also the first wife and empress of the most ambitious, most talented man of Great Han. She married, entering through the main entrance of the palace, and they spent the sweet time together in the first years.

At that time, she was like the most splendid bloomed red peony, beautiful and proud, shining the most. Even Liu Che was gentle and considerate in front of her.

Like this, she probably never expected that there would actually be a day where she would be imprisoned in Changmen Palace, miserable for half her life, and would like an ant. And the palace that belonged to her was occupied by another woman, and she would never be able to regain it in this life.

Thus, Chen A Jiao, the empress of the Han Dynasty who died with resentment, turned into a voice, and returned once again into her mind to the time when she was still a youngster. The first sentence she said was: “A Jiao, don’t marry Liu Che, don’t marry him!”

This voice sounded like a cuckoo’s tears of blood. But can young Chen A Jiao follow her desire, escape her imprisonment in Changmen Palace for half her life, and escape the young sovereign’s deep affection?

*a Chinese idiom referring to Liu Che and Chen A Jiao’s, using “Jiao” of Chen A Jiao’s name, saying that when they were young, Liu Che loved Chen A Jiao so much that he wanted to build her a golden house where he would have kept her
