My Girl, Shun Hua 有女舜华 by 于晴 Yu Qing (HE)

Damn this blasted family curse! For all that is said and done, she is a descendant of the famous Golden Merchant … ok, ok, so she is a decendant of the once-famous-now-downtrodden Golden Merchant, and a sickly decendant at that.   She is kind-hearted, well-mannered, and has never harmed another person in her life. Even if the family line is destined to end with her, fate could at least grant her a clean death and not beleaguer her to death like what is happening now.

Although she is now strong – probably the strongest woman in Northern Tang – there are too many people waiting to wipe this accursed, beautiful face off the face of earth. When she walked on the streets, there were people waiting with knives for her. When she stayed at home, her musicians plot to murder her. aiyo! How is she supposed to live like this? So it is true that behind a glamorous front, the back is all misery. Damn the blasted curse again! She cannot go back… she no longer can go back ….

*A note to would-be readers: The story did not get interesting until somewhere after the one third mark, so I would recommend that you skim through the beginning until you read her preparing for a Halloween house party. Happy reading and do let me know your comments if you have read the book!

This is the same author as my post on Gentleman Free Floating Cloud and started our discussion on Yu Qing :). Hahaha.

I’ve read this book finished, except the epilogues. This book is longer than Gentleman, probably a four hour read at least? It’s extremely confusing at the start so the first one third is a test of perseverance and I only persevered on because of Moonblossom’s recommendation.

I can say I really liked the later half of the book and the pairing is really sweet and everything dovetails nicely in the end – with some suspension of belief here and there haha. This book may not be for everyone’s taste because everyone seemed so unlikeable at the start, but the development of the main pairing was very well done.

You can read the book in Chinese here http://www.xxyqz.com/yuqing/2305/book.html

Remember to skim the beginning. I could tell decembi could have thrown a brick at me when trying to persevere through the book. To answer your question, she time jump to one year before she died

*guilty look* I figured that out when you said you skipped the epilogues. I actually like the epilogues because all 4 merchants were thrown into the same room and it is cute to see the 2 man vying to take care of her in different ways. And of course, there is also the gossip magazine. I really like the gossip magazine.

If anyone need me to summarise the beginning 30 or so chapters , do feel free to ask. The I posted this book because I thought most of the posting here are c-novels that span into 90s or 100s chapter so this book should fit right in. 95% of the things I have read are below 40 chapters.

Oh I just finished the epilogues over the weekend lol! I just meant that I didn’t finished it yet hahaha not that I was going to skip it. The epilogues are really cute, but also quite sad. Yu Qing is quite an interesting author, she can write funny stories very well but she actually has quite a dark view of the human race.

Been a silent reader to this blog for a long while…thk u moon blossom, for recommending this book. Just like to add my comment for others who might be interested in the book… This is a fairly easy read but it’s relatively long compare with titles like 东宫or your 闲云公子。thanks to ur surmany, I find it not confusing or boring….just a tag too slow. The suspects for her many attempt murders are rather obvious and there is hardly any love triangles despite 3 dashing men..the characters were fairly undeveloped despite and her learning journey was rather smooth sailing….Yu Qing’s books are easy read and this could be a book on a cold rainy day. Not much emotional baggage as compre to reading 桐华 or 非大 books
