Secretly, Secretly; But Unable to Hide It / Hidden Love : Can’t Be Concealed 偷偷藏不住 by 竹已 Zhu Yi (HE)

When Sang Zhi was thirteen, she secretly fell in love with a man.

The man appeared to be rather cold, and had an air of laziness around him. When he spoke, his voice seemed to be devoid of all energy. He frequently visited her home, whiling the entire afternoon away by playing video games with her brother in his room.

During the rare occasions when she delivered fruit and snacks into her brother’s room, he would turn towards her in a careless manner, his lips curving into a smile so dazzling it seemed inhumane – “Hey kid, what’s up? Why do your cheeks turn red whenever you see me?”

  • Hi! I really love this novel. Thank you for recommending this! It has been a long time since I read a novel that is funny and engaging like this. I was so happy and shy for Sang Zhi when Jia Xu flirted with her. I was so sad for Sang Zhi and teared when she decided to move on from her one-sided love.

Her parents are also very lovely and nice people so there was not much drama and the focus was really on them which is really nice. :-)

  • Hi cloudandsea!

It's been a while since I've read this novel, so my memory is slightly hazy, but I do recall this being a really sweet novel with minimal drama. I've read a couple of novels written by 竹已, but I do recall this being one of those that really stood out to me. I really enjoyed how the author described the stirrings of the one-sided love which Sang Zhi possessed for Jia Xu - it wasn't too heart-breaking or sorrowful for me (like you said, the humor really helped to lighten the mood) and it really helped that both Jia Xu and Sang Zhi were just such good, good people (which in turn, helped to ensure that they didn't throw each other into endless turmoil / angst). I also really enjoyed reading about Sang Zhi's brother - he seemed like such a hilarious and quirky dude I can't wait to read about the romance between him and his wife :')
