If you read the other books you get to find out certain events that might only have been mentioned in one book. It's really just for your own curiosity's sake. Some characters make cameos in other books in the series, others are background characters. Huangfu (male lead in this book) makes a few cameos in other books but no you don't have to read the other books to understand this one.
tl;dr: No you don't, you can read any of the books in the series on its own.
