Strawberry Kiss Mark (Go Back Lover) 草莓印 (竹马天降都是你) by 不止是颗菜 Bu Zhi Shi Ke Cai (HE)

On the day they turned seventeen, Lu Xing Yan and Shen Xing Ruo celebrated their birthdays together. As both Lu Xing Yan and Shen Xing Ruo had to sit for an exam the very next day, Shen Xing Ruo stayed up all night to tutor Lu Xing Yan.

Lu Xing Yan twirled his pen in a frivolous manner, and called out to Sheng Xing Ruo, “Out of curiosity, what birthday wish did you make? You took at least a full three minutes to make your birthday wish. Why don’t you tell me what you wished for – who knows, I may even be able to help you fulfil your birthday wish.”

Shen Xing Ruo didn’t spare him a single glance, and simply focused on highlighting the key learning points, “My birthday wish is that Lu Xing Yan would have, by the end of this semester, completed one entire set of The Compilation Book of Mock Mathematics Examination Papers for the Past Five Years, five entire sets of Multiple Choice Practice Books, and ten entire sets of The National College Entrance Examination Papers, and committed to memory the entire set of vocabulary to be tested for The College English Test Band 4. I also wish that Lu Xing Yan will manage to improve his overall score for the year-end examination, and score above 400 points, so that he can finally stop being that singular piece of rat dung responsible for decreasing Class 1’s overall average score.”

The singular piece of rat dung lapsed into a three-second silence. “Let’s pretend that I never asked.”

– This is a novel detailing the daily record of how a young & childish high schooler managed to win over his wife.
– On this quiet, sunny summer day, the wind kissed the side of your face.

  • I've not had the mood to read anything heavy for a long while now, as I take a fair amount of time to recover from my feelings of angst and disappointment whenever I tackle a novel with an ending where my leads fail to get their "happily-ever-after". Like Transmigrating To Become The Boss’s Little Fairy, this novel takes place in a campus setting, where our male lead and female lead first meet each other as high school students, and, by becoming desk-mates (and no thanks to our male lead's overactive imagination), gradually fall in love with each other along the way.

The characterization of our leads are also relatively typical, with our male lead being the silly, laid-back and hare-brained jock with close-to-nothing to his name save for his good looks and distinguished family background, whilst our female lead is the cold, aloof transfer student who easily aces all her examinations and co-curricular activities and possesses a sharp, poisonous tongue. The author, however, doesn't bless our male lead with sudden, amazing IQ and brains just by virtue of being our female lead's boyfriend - no, our male lead only manages to improve his grades through sheer, hard work and constant tutoring by our female lead. And even then, he doesn't improve by "leaps and bounds", and merely improves sufficiently to enter into a relatively good university (whilst failing to gain entry into the top-tier university our female lead was admitted to).

Due to the characterization of our leads, it is little wonder that our female lead is truly the one who wears the "pants" in the relationship - she forces the male lead to put in hard work, and to constantly improve himself till he is capable of taking over his family business. The male lead, for the most part, is also content with letting the female lead take over the reins in the relationship, and giving in to her to nearly all her minor, tiny demands (and yet, the author manages to portray such a sweet relationship without the relationship devolving into an entire stereotypical, sugary relationship which causes one to lose sight of one's limitations and/or morals). In that regard, the author manages to create and weave a truly sweet, loving and yet healthy relationship between two seeming polar opposites.
