Summary of the novel main plot:

Cheng Shao Shang got engaged three times in total. The first time was with Lou Yao, the 2nd son of an aristocratic family, but later for the sake of the family and the country, Cheng Shao Shang chose to break off the engagement with Lou Yao, letting him marry He Zhao Jun, whose family sacrificed their lives for the country. They ended up with a happy family.
The second engagement was with Ling Bu Yi. He was attracted to Cheng Shao Shang for a long time, so he requested the emperor to grant him the right to marry Cheng Shao Shang. But in view of Cheng Shao Shang's "unpolished manner", the emperor planned to get the queen to educate her for a period of time before the two can get married. During this time, those troublesome girls who like Ling Bu Yi but dislike Cheng Shao Sang tried many times to set some traps for her but failed to do so. Under the guidance of the queen, Cheng Shao Shang became more mature and thoughtful, a person who the queen can trust. With her growth, she and Ling Bu Yi still could not end up together. (I suspect this will be the end of part 1 of the drama)
Ling Bu Yi knew that his so-called father was actually his uncle, who caused the demise of his family. His so-called mum was actually his aunt who switched her own son with Ling Bu Yi to save him, then became crazy. He has been planning revenge ever since he was old enough to understand. A few days before his wedding, he chose the wrong way to take his bloody revenge. In order to save his life, Cheng Shao Shang dobbed him in to prevent the deterioration of the situation. She also pleaded for his life. As punishment, the emperor sent Ling Bu Yi to the frontier. Cheng Shao Shang asked the emperor to cancel the engagement.
Cheng Shao Shang was heartbroken and never saw Ling Bu Yi again. Later, under Yuan Shen's frantic pursuit, Cheng Shao Shang chose to be betrothed to him in order to forget Ling Bu Yi. But in Cheng Shao Shang's heart, she never forgot Ling Bu Yi. While in exile, Ling Bu Yi started to use his actual surname Huo. He also kept tab on Cheng Shao Shang and protected her from afar.
Five years later and being victorious in war, Ling Bu Yi returned and disrupted Cheng Shao Shang's life once again. He told Yuan Shen to break off his engagement to Cheng Shao Shang but he refused. Until Yuan Shen found out that Ling Bu Yi helped his family and he also found out the depth of Ling Bu Yi and Cheng Shao Shang's love for each other. Hence the engagement was broken. Then, Ling Bu Yi gave chase until Cheng Shao Shang was willing to reconcile with him, so they finally have their happy ending.

As expected from the author of Minglan! I wish I am good enough to write how I feel after reading this novel. This is probably the only novel so far that made me confuse who to root for and who will the MC ended up with
For instance, the Empress was the character dear to our MC, she’s kind and warm, very much the mother like figure MC was searching for, through MC’s narration we can see how much she suffered, and we somehow despise the emperor for not being the doting husband he should have been. But on the other hand, we get to know that the empress was actually the third person in the relationship between the emperor and the Imperial Concubine, who was the one married to the emperor first, she accompanied the emperor through battles, has always respect the empress and even in the end we got to know that the emperor and imperial concubine were the true love pair, and the imperial concubine although her heart hurts, she never tried to challenge the empress. So are we rooting the kind and weak hearted empress who due to political machination became the empress, or the imperial concubine who sacrificed her love, and was somewhat forced to settle as a concubine. My heart still hurt for the empress, but it’s not like the imperial concubine was a villain either
Another one would be the ML
3 male fiancé . First is the kind, A Yao. And quite possibly the only healthy and safe relationship the MC ever had. A Yao fell for her personality, how she inspired him tp be more resolute. He always obey whatever MC say. The only downfall would be his messy extended family. But the dream life that the MC wanted, simple and safe, only A Yao could give her.
2nd fiancé, is the omnipotent. Super Handsome Ling Buyi. Overbearing, bossy but also always protect and in the end gave whatever she wanted. Had love at first sight with the MC. Tragic life, and his selfish early infatuation to the MC basically drag her into the murky water of politics
3rd fiancé, gentleman Yuan. Who is always one step late in chasing the MC. Late In realizing that he’s attracted to the MC, late in making the move to the MC and in the end forfeited his engagement under Ling Buyi’s attempt to get back with Shao Sheng
After the 2nd engagement ended, I was really anxious on who MC will ended up. I was like: it's still Li Buyi right? Right? But he was such a jerk, I hope it’s not him. But also, he’s kinda sad, it’s going to be hearbreaking if he ends up alone. And then what will happen to poor Yuan Shen? Aarghh
If you are interested on reading this because of the drama adaptation, prepare to be surprised. It is not just a light hearted comedy like the drama, but really heart wrenching stuff. To be honest, the novel kinda made me lose interest on the drama, since so many stuff would probably be cut. But also hope it’s different from the novel, because watching the episodes so far, I really like the more comedy tone of the drama. See I’m getting anxious again LOL
Looks like they’re following the plot pretty closely. I’d love to hear how Ling Buyi is able to break up the engagement between tutor Yuan and Shaoshang. I mean, he had to wait for fate to intervene once with A’Yao…
At the beginning of the novel, the parents and older brothers return from battles to the capital to live and reunite with the FL who is their youngest and only daughter who had been raised by relatives...... at this time, the FL is at a marriage age but the family realizes it's hard to marry her off because she's wild and unruly, it's pretty funny.
Her father is a general and her 4 older brothers r warriors so they were busy fighting in battles and the FL's mom was with her hubby and sons.
The FL was left to relatives to raise so she has a reputation of being wild and unruly....... the FL is actually a girl who time travel from modern time and she was raised in the mountain by a grandmother so she's wild and unruly so when she time traveled she fits the personality of the girl whose body she took over.
From what i can understand, it's a good story, better than Minglan....... i really hope Leo will accept the role.... i think he will be excellent!!!

A bit of background: ML is the emperor's adopted son and the FL is the only daughter of a general....... she was out with a bunch of young ladies her age and they're all swooning over ML and then they ask her opinion.....she dunno who the hell he is but due to peer pressure she pretends to be in love with him too lol, so then he finds out and thinks she's madly in love with him like other young ladies in the capital lol
So i’m at a really cute part of the story: the FL overheard a plot to assassinate the crown prince and the ML saved her when the ppl she overheard tried to kill her but the ML and her have to come up with an excuse why they’re together when they return to the emperor’s party…….ML said he’ll break her arm and then said he saved her but then he actually breaks his own arm…… the emperor hears his adopted son and the FL return together…..the thing is ML is pretty tough even when he’s gravely injured he dun let anyone else now so why would he need the FL to help him return? so the emperor suspects ML is in love with the FL and want to match make them, the problem is the FL is already engaged to someone else who ML also knows…….so the emperor asks the FL’s father how many daughters he has and the general says he only has 1 and the emperor got mad at him bcos why he only has 1 and not 2 daughters.

There's another funny part: the FL time travel so of course she dunno how to read Chinese characters in ancient China but her mom thinks her daughter is stupid bcos she's illiterate lol
