Disregard for the six realms, with a peerless grace, of the xians he is the highest and unrivaled, the respected Chong Hua, standing at the highest, the one all looks up to, the one all admire, yet never able to touch, and have. From somewhere unknown, she ignorantly walks towards him, and became his disciple. Born with a fierceness destined to enter devildom, she cannot learn spells, but that is alright, as long as able to just stay by his side.  But she is unable to stop herself from continuing to fall in love with him, helpless becomes hopeless, looking at him, but not daring to depend on him, yet unable to help from wanting to depend on him. It is conspiracy, he accepts it. It is retribution for previous sins, he will also accept it.

A teaser:

“Want me to forgive you? Unless the NanHua mountains collapse, and the four seas have dried.”

When he finally opens his arms and walks towards her, she only smiled, but there was no joy, no anticipation, only just standing there and smiling.

Two lifetimes as teacher and student, the third lifetime becomes Mo, time brings about big changes, ask how deep or how shallow love is, love more or hate more? Why not trouble him with the collapse of a mountain, or dry up the four seas, why reckon in the next life is xian or mo.  Only afraid of looking back, clear skies and jaded moon, and returning also, embracing for a moment, this heart is yearning towards the long river. If the stars dazzle, hate the waves.

  • Saw a new novel posted on Cxt8, seems like it'll be an awesome book. I think we also have few other scholars that likes Xian Xia so posted it up. This one seems like it'll be heavy rain, but I researched on the ending and it should be bright sun after heavy rain, or at least clearing clouds. It's a good ending. I just love the book covers, totally have a things for nice covers and I just really love how the stage is set in this story.

While I sent researching this novel, I found the nice tugging quote, “Want me to forgive you? Unless the NanHua mountains collaspe, and the four seas have dried.” that totally pulls me in.

    • Haha, I saw it on cx8 last nite & was wondering when will Chancy post this new book. Wah, you are fast & efficient:P Bah, another teacher & disciple book:( Why must the student always like the teacher??? I really dislike this kind of love so might just wait & see b4 I start this book.

      • Haha. Im likely to keep this for after hua qian gu. Still have a few more books need to finish.

I think this one i might like even more than hua qian gu. Just have that kind of feel. In that book, he raised her up? But in this she seems to have become his disciple just to get close. If i can't handle temptation i will sample a chapter.

        • Wahaha, I just finished the 1st chapter:P The OTP met immediately in the 1st chapter. The readers are also not bad. Yeh, no sissy voice, haha...

          • Haha we're planning to do live reading, but still.picking our first book. Should we do this one or wait for miss lawyer/cgege one?

  • This sounds super awesome!! There's something very grand about that quote. I was browsing around on cxt8 and came across that too. Crossing my fingers that someone uploads it somewhere else so I won't need to sleep with my computer!

  • What a coincidence! I just finished this last week! Was supposed to be studying for my final but ended up marathoning this....lol. Will give this 7.5/10. There were enough humor, enough cuteness, enough angst to make this a good story, but there were some annoying/confusing moments too.

As the heroine of the story, I really love Chong Zi. I admire her optimism and good heart, how she tries to live the best way she can despite all the odds against her and how badly people treat her just b/c she was born with a dark force. One poignant moment for me was towards the end, with her asking about the meaning of good and evil. Those who were supposed to be "good" had tortured/killed/attempted to rape her while she, who was supposed to be "bad" never hurt anyone (same old debate that usually pops up in wuxia stories also between the good vs. bad sects).

It's sad that no matter what happens, Chong Zi's only wish is to stay next to Chong Hua. I do not like her absolute loyalty and devotion to Chong Hua b/c I don't think he deserves it. Out of the guys who love her, I think Chong Hua deserves her the least. I hate his indecisiveness!! His wishy-washy behavoir, his constant wavering between his "responsibilities" and his love for Chong Zi, is annoying, and I just wanted to smack him over the head. Chong Hua's fault is that he tries to have it both ways, and everything backfires on him b/c in the end, he forsakes his duties, but at that point, it's too late. Chong Zi has crossed over to the dark side.

My favorite image in this story is in Chong Zi's first lifetime when Chong Hua first accepts her as his disciple. I thought it really beautiful, this image of a beggar child yearning for love in her lonely eyes being led out by Chong Hua, down the steps and up the mountain to his home. This is what Chong Zi always remembers about Chong Hua, and it's also my favorite part in the story.

The saddest part for me was in Chong Zi's second lifetime being imprisoned in the ice cave and chained up with her bones broken. It's ironic that ultimately, it's what everyone did to her b/c of the dark force inside her that made Chong Zi cross to the dark side, not the dark force itself.

    • Thanks lidge for the feedback. Sound like bad ending ar? This story teaches us never to fall in love with our teachers, haha:P

      • No, happy ending for Chong Zi & Chong Hua!!!! I only do happy endings XDXD. I think it's cool that all Viet translations have a spoiler in the beginning as to how each story would end as in OE = open ending, SE = sad ending, and HE = happy ending.

        • Wah so good. Next time I consult you b4 I start any book:) Hey, ending up with the teacher is a bad ending since I don't like the teacher. I am listening to Hua Qian Gu & she also likes the teacher. I hate teachers:P

      • I think this is a good read in that it brings up an interesting debate of whether evilness is nature or nurture or a combination of both? Tried reading a few other stories by the same author after Chong Zi but didn't like any of them and stopped after the first few chapters. I think this is her best book.

  • I usually see it like this: if someone is willing to spend time to make an a
Audiobook or translate a book, then it should be a worthy read.

  • chancy426:
I think we also have few other scholars that likes Xian Xia so posted it up.

    *raises hand*

The plot really reminds me of Hua Qian Gu down to the 'evil energy' in the girl.
But that makes me really want to read anyhow. Believe both have different things to offer despite obvious similar points.

Agreed, xianxia/wuxia will almost always bring up good vs evil and responsibility vs love. It's guilty pleasure haha, no matter how many times reading that same theme

  • chancy426:
Haha we’re planning to do live reading, but still.picking our first book. Should we do this one or wait for miss lawyer/cgege one?

Live reading means read together? Xia0yuer is always the fastest:P Are you reading Qian Gu? If yes, then this purple is kind of the same kind. I am a bit all over the place as can't concentrate on one:( The audiobooks for this & Cgege's one are still in progress but you can read the actual text.

    • It means reading as the Audiobook releases. I don't wanna read qian gu right now. Im more attracted to this book.

  • I fnished till chapter 4 where Chong Hua first accepts Chong Zi as his disciple. Yah, agreed with lidge that part really touching. The guy she met in chapter 1 is not Chong Hua? Who is that? I am poor with Chinese names so I don't know who is who:( Really dislike that so called leader? who refused to accept Chong Zi into the sect.

    • Haha i thought they that was Chong Hua. Didn't seem like him though since he is only a disciple. So u clarified for me.

  • Are you guys talking about the guy in white that writes a spell on Chong Zi to protect her? He's just one of the supporting guys. He's important to the story and will show up later.

Yes peanuts, the part where Chong Hua accepts Chong Zi as his disciple, taking her hand, leading her out of the hall, down the stairs with everyone's eyes on them b/c CH is finally accepting a disciple, and to the mountain where he lives....That's my favorite passage in the story. It's like a bond began to form between them at that moment that would become unbreakable no matter what happens later.

I don't doubt Chong Zi's love for her shifu, but I see a bit of adulation/adoration mixed in too. At the time when she was a child with nothing and no family, Chong Hua (as her shifu) was her everything. If I were CZ, I'd fall hard for CH too.

    • Hey Lidge, have you read Qian Gu? I am reading the 2 books sort of together so I can make comparision. Heehee, hope I don't mix them up. Actually they are fairly similar yet different. Qian Gu also adores her shifu but she has to prove herself before he'll accept her as his dsciple whereas this book is a bit more fast paced.

What I want to rant is, it is ok to worship your shifu when you are young & impressionable but one should grow out of it as you meet more people & has more life experience. Unless your shifu is very good to you, you should just give up. Not all childhood crush or love can bear fruit. Thus, I hope the next book on teacher & disciple r/s will have the disciple realise her love for the teacher is just pure adulation not love & get to end up with one of the awesome supporting male.

      • The group that translated Chong Zi just announced that they are taking up Qian Gu as their next project! Yayness!!!~ Only 3 or 4 chaps. have been released, but so far sooooo addicting!!!♥♥♥

CZ's love for CH does make me frustrated, but on the other hand, I sympathize with her stubbornness on loving him. I do think CZ's love began out of adulation + loneliness, but whatever feelings she had grew into a deep genuine love b/c during her childhood when she was most vulnerable and impressionable, CH was not just her shifu but also her protector/family/friend, i.e.: her entire world.

I don't think love is ever right or wrong. It's our heart that decides who we love, and when CZ's heart was empty, CH was the one who occupied it. He was just at the right place at the right time, I guess is another way to put it. In other words, it's fate. So when she meets Qin Ke again or Zhuo Hao or the other supporting guys, unfortunately her heart at that point was already full of CH and could not accept anyone else in a romantic sense b/c there's no more place for them.

        • I do understand what you are saying. This is what I don't like abt her is her stubborness to hold on to CH. Can be more flexible & give others a chance. If CH doesn't recipocrate, what she gonna do? She should open her heart & try to accept others since the r/s with her shifu is so difficult to bear fruit.Being persistent is good but I feel not in this kind of love situation. Many a tragedy happened bcos people cannot let go.

I do undestand different people cope with things in different way so I'll be open minded & accept her for who she is. However I cannot ship her with CH. I'll prepare my tissues & cry for Qin Ke. Btw in Qian Gu, we've a Lang gege who is also a royalty. In that book, I also ship the supporting males. Cry cry:(

  • I think it was funny in the beginning when they introduced the teachers and the oldest (looking 70) was actually the youngest and the youngest looking (30) was actually the highest.

  • The boy that goes into discipleship the same time with her, he's going to be romantically involved right? So is the guy who writes the spell on her hand? I was assuming that person was Chong Hua, but thanks to lidge for clearing up!

    • The boy who goes through the disciple test with CZ (he's actually a ♥♥prince♥♥) and becomes the last disciple of the sect leader is also one of the supporting guys. His love for CZ is very sad!!! Of all the guys who love and sacrifice for her, I like him the most and wish that CZ could have loved him instead of CH.

Spoiler: Pay attention to the girl who becomes CZ's best friend as she plays a key role in the story also.

The thing about this story is that nothing is as it seems, and there are lots of twists and suprises.

      • nooo!! ah oh well I guess anyone who's not CH is end up sad since they don't end up with her anyways. I hope my second male lead syndrome doesn't get too bad...

      • Who are all the male leads? From what I've read so far, there's Chong Hua, Qin Ke (the little Gong Zi) and Zhuo Hao.

I hope she grows up soon!

        • Except Qin Ke & Lin Zhi (the snooty girl), I am confused as to who is who in the sect. Anyone can give me characters intro?

          • Im so slow. Im only at 8 right now. My dad was home all day. Will catch up tomorrow.

I really like Chong Zi so far. Wah, Qin Keep will be missing in action for an entire year? I like Muo Shi Xiong too.

Chong Hua is not same level as Headmaster right? Since Chong Zi has to call snooty girl Shi Shu (which makes her same level as Chong Hua).

          • Luo Yin Fan = Chong Hua - Chong Zi's shifu
Zhuo Hao - Qing Hua Sect's leader's son. He's the one who asks for Chong Zi's hand in marriage twice.
Mu Yu - Chong Hua's shi shu because he's Min Yu Zhong's disciple, is the highest ranked student because he won that once every five years tournament
Chu Bu Fu - the guy who casted a spell on Chong Zi so she won't be bullied, he became the demon lord Wan Jie
Min Yu Zhong - the highest generation in Nan Hua Sect, really biased against Chong Zi because of her aura
Yu Du - Chong Hua's shi xiong, Qin Ke's teacher
Xing Xuan - has the ability to divine "fate," sort of like he can see the past
Yan Zhen Zhu- Chong Zi's best friend, she's actually a generation younger than Chong Zi, but she's older and departs good advice
Yin Shui Xian - a fallen xian that became a demon, was once in love with her shifu (who is currently dead), caused an enormous scandal in the xian world.
