According to legend, he was Xi Liang’s country most unfeeling but wise king, Long Fei Li.

She time traveled from 21st century and with an exquisite heart, Zhu Qi (after time traveling, she was known as Nian Xuanji) who was his imperial concubine.

According to legend, he only loved this woman among his three thousand concubines, the envy of people in the whole world;

According to legend, he killed and beheaded hundreds of people a night because of her, turning the palace into a purgatory;

According to legend, he ultimately sentenced her to have her head chop off ……

Infante, high-ranking military officer, foreign prince; Prime Minister plotted to rebel, Empress Dowager usurped the throne, Infante seized power, battles between countries ……

A conspiracy that swept and changed power and position in heaven, resulted in her tragic death. This lifetime’s story seems like a repeat of past life. Can she escape the curse of the goddess of fate and get a satisfactory romance in this lifetime? She is the king’s wife twice. Is that cruel king really her lover mandated by heaven?

Buddhism said, people only have three lifetime of  fate. Will she still miss her fate with him this time?

When objects and scenery are still as before but the faces are no more the same. When confronted by the tempests of tribulations. When faced with the limited years of one’s youth, whom shall willingly stay with whom and 3000 times laugh in drunkenness, complaining not even in the midst of partings and death?

    Peanuts, I just saw the length of the book…way too long for me to read. Over 500 chapters including the epilogues. I might pick it up but I’m currently on a Shi Si Lang frenzy, reading one of her books after another (usually under or a little over 100 chapters each book). 😀 Also, I left 大唐女法医 unfinished to read Shi Si Lang’s books ^^;;

    I did, however, listen to the radiodrama you provided and loved it. It ended right where I needed to know what happens next! I was thinking throughout the radiodrama that she would probably eventually commit suicide…and…well now I really want to know what happened next.

    Xuan as Long Fei Li is so swoon-worthy! Love love love his voice!! I feel so sorry for Nian Xuanji. Long Fei Li’s words never match his actions. It’s clear to the readers (umm, listeners?) that he deeply loves Xuanji but he’s always so cold to her. All his actions and expressions are never in front of Xuanji so I can’t blame her for thinking he doesn’t like/lover her. 🙁

    So many unlikable characters in the book, the Empress Dowager (major dislike!), the Empress and other concubines, even Xuanji’s own family excluding her mother…especially her hateful father!

    My like list is pretty short, lol. Aside from the main leads, I like the princess, the small wolf (haha), Xuanji’s mother, Xuanji’s maid, and…..I thought I liked Ru Yi, but changed my mind after the last 4 minutes of the radiodrama.

    Totally took the easy way out, haha. This book is really long and I’m afraid of abandoning it halfway through, lol =X

    Thanks for answering my question, Peanuts.

    I also hope Hoju reads this book and then give us more spoilers!

    The radiodrama didn’t touch on a lot of the story. Thanks for sharing the MVs, Peanuts. The first one really helped a lot with where the radiodrama left off.

    Long Fei Li’s nickname for Nian Xuanji (Xiao Qi), her amnesia, his confession about Ru Yi, Xuanji’s meeting Bai Zhan Feng, Xiao Qi leaving Fei Li and about to marry Zhan Feng (?), her death at the end.

    Hoju, hopefully the following quotes from Long Fei Li (and one from Bai Zhan Feng) can entice you to read this:

    哦,小七嘛
    小七這個名字只給我叫

    小七, 你忘了我?

    小七, 別離開我

    可是, 我不會讓你走
    即使有你說的在生

    他想,這世上會這樣待他的,只有她了

    小七,小七
    剛才朕做了一個夢,夢見那些人折磨她

    夏桑,朕告訴你她這一生, 無論是生是死, 都要和朕在一起
    朕寫她百年後也是要同梟而葬

    朕在七歲以前就認識瞭如意 (booooooo!)

    On her marrying 白戰楓 (?? that’s what it looked like in the MV):
    小七,咱們回去好不好?

    白戰楓:
    你既已娶了她
    為何不好好待她?
    你知道嗎,她瘋了
    是給你親手逼瘋了

    I’m also pretty invested in learning more about legend of the Heavenly Emperor’s daughter (Zi Su), Small Wolf (Xue Liu Jing), Dragon King (Long Hao), and Dragon King’s Consort (Mo Cong)….their past lives?

    天帝小女 - 紫蘇 (Zi Su) – Xiao Qi
    小狼 - 雪流景 (Xue Liu Jing) – Bai Zhan Feng
    龍王 - 龍昊 (Long Hao) – Long Fei Li
    龍王側妃 - 莫琮 (Mo Cong) – Ru Yi

    Hi, this is my first comment at shusheng bar.. I found our abt this site when I was reading koala’s translation of 长相思 last year. I am really thankful to this site as I was introduced to so many good chinese novels like hua qian gu (it’s going to be out nxt wk, yeah! Saw on youtube where the cast went to happy camp to promote), three lives three worlds, gu fang bu zhi shang, who gets the world, heavy sweetness ash like frost, man man qing luo, silent separation, san sheng wang chuan wu shang, long fei feng wu, both are foxes, mistaken marrigae match series, feng yin tian xia, silent separation, just one smile is very alluring, really really miss you and alot more which I can’t rmb. I found this book recommendation last wk and actually finished reading it by monday.. And today I just finished reading 非我倾城, 王爷要休妃 written by the same author where the characters in 再生缘 will also make an appearance .. Phew.. Such a long book, I think I read until I wanted to vomit (because there is just too many misunderstandings).. And I found that I enjoyed 再生缘 more (I think) if I compared both books… Btw I love the audiobook (although I only listened to part 4) hahaha… Btw I’m really impressed by the writer (how did she managed to put so many things in one book- three lives, time travelling, power struggle etc) Btw, not sure if this is a spoiler, i think the female lead of 再生缘 lost her memory thrice (if I didn’t rmb wrgly)… Anyway, overall I think this book is quite good, so go read it people hahaha..

    One of my favourite books! Listened to the audio book at ximalaya and it was really good and better than expected despite my hesitation to try it because it has only one broadcaster. But the broadcaster really brought our the emotions in the book, so I’m glad I gave it a try.

    This book is heartbreaking from beginning to end. I lost count the number of times I cried… There’s a reason why this book is always mentioned when people ask for recommendations for tearjerkers.

    If you like books overflowing with angst but with a happy ending, you should definitely give this book a chance. It’s written to be 虐身虐心!Except that after all the angst, you finally get a good ending, so the entire process is incredibly cathartic and you get some closure.

    The book can be quite melodramatic, and there’s a few cliché plot devices (memory loss, previous lives, harem battles, power struggle, misunderstandings…) , but I don’t mind them because the author utilizes them quite well. And also, even though this book is a tearjerker, I think it’s also considered a sweet novel (甜文) in the sense that you can feel the love between the leads from the beginning to the end. It’s not one of those novels where the leads take forever to fall in love. In fact, most of the angst is a result of their love, which faces lots of obstacles.

    This book also has one of the best openings I’ve ever seen. It’s a begins with the female lead’s execution, ordered by the male lead. So you start wondering what happened to make things result in this state of affairs, why the male lead ends up hating the female lead to the extent of executing her when they were previously so deeply in love… Then it becomes a flashback of how the two main leads came to know and love each other, which takes up more than half the novel. And it then leads back to the opening, to finally answer our question on why the male lead sentenced the female lead to execution. But the book doesn’t end like that! (otherwise it’ll be a bad ending!) It then continues on after the execution to begin the final arc or the book. It’s also a happy ending. Thankfully, after all the angst! Otherwise I don’t think I’ll ever survive.

    Those who like this book should also read its sister book, 非我倾城:王爷要休妃. It’s set in the same universe as this book, and the main leads here appear a little there.
