When He Comes, Close Your Eyes / Close Your Eyes Close to Me (Love Me If You Dare) 他来了, 请闭眼 by Ding Mo (HE)

When you have a boyfriend who is brilliant, arrogant and loyal ……

When dating, he said: “I’m not interested in these silly things.  However, if you kiss me every five minutes, I can do any silly thing with you.”

When jealous, he said: “Compared to me, that guy has “stupid” written from head to toe.  He only has one good point, he also knows you’re a good woman.”

When making love, he said: “Although I don’t have any experience, my intelligence and ability to learn are exceptional compared to normal people.  One more thing, my ability to observe is also very good.”

When proposing, he said: “No words can describe how I feel.  If one sentence can sum it up, it is – ‘I love you, with all of my life and wisdom.”

I bring him from a lonely world into a warm, bustling city.

He pulls me from a quiet, ordinary life into an exciting, unforgettable life.

    Hihi…I’m back again… 🙂

This book is so far the best I have read…suspensful, intriguing, totally gruesome, and makes me feel like watching criminal minds all over again….it’s basically a Chinese criminal minds episode….read only if you can stomach low to mid level imagination of whacky weirdos….
But honestly, I dun mind having a boyfriend or husband like him….hehe….

    Synopsis: lots of spoilers!!!!

Male lead is Bo Jin Yan a genius criminal profiler…who is a total loner with only 1 friend. Has a weird fetish for eating fish….and who has absolutely sky high IQ and totally zero EQ!!

Female lead is Jian Yao, an good English major student who has good observation and fishing skills.

Best and only friend of BJY is a dr called Fu Zi Yu…does everything and anything for BJY. Basically a 24hr slave , butler and nanny.

Li Xun Ran is JYs childhood best pal and big bro figure….but underneathe it all, he loves her and realizes it wayyyy too late….

Male lead BJY is not hedious, just has a weird fetish for dead things and whacko murderers…..he only searches for the worst killers and nothing less…think there are 3 cases tat are to be solved…

Case 1: serial killer who loves to chop people into 7 parts…..discovered by LXR, who tot they were a kidnapp case for child traffickers…ended up to be killed by a physical who chops them with a self invented guillotine…. 7 parts in total….

Case 2: murder covered up as a suicide by a bunch of colleagues.

Case 3: the grossest of them all….severe psycho who loves to slice living humans, to drink and eat their parts…psycho is an OCD who, slices his victims, whilst still alive, in nice neat slices to eat their meat raw and drink their blood at the same time….

    Oky..so well….good reading…..nice imagination…but not everyone’s cuppa tea… 🙂

Really?? Decembi..then might not be a good idea to read tis one then….coz the last case was abit gory….even tho it’s not fully in detail, but it does expound abit on the way mr psyco eats his human shabu shabu slices in detail…. But on the other hand it really is interesting…
To me, comparing snail and tis one…..snail is prob 4/10 and this is like 7/10 in bloody details…

I wanted to have pork chop for lunch today but thanks to Pm, I lost my appetite:( In the meantime, I’ll also stay away from having hotpot:P I think I gonna give this story a miss until I read the snail book. I need to stock up on some funny books first to help me recover, haha… Btw Pm, I notice you wanted to post this book but lidge beat you to it:P Forgive her bcos she has the mind of a criminal, lol. I was waylaid by Wipe Clean After Eating while waiting for further spoilers on BJY. Pm, thanks so much. I was really misled by the author into thinking the male lead was some hideous disfigured person. Wow…what a relief he isn’t, definitely coming back for this after I’m done with Wipe Clean. I can smell the blood already. Now that I’m back on home soil, I’m going to marathon books next couple of days.

Hehe….XX….was bz with spring cleaning and the usual cny visitations….ahh…traditions traditions…..getting abit boring as one gets older… :p

Oops..sorry peanuts……shall I grosse u out….wat abt mince human meat served raw on a plate?? ..I’m just guessing its human….not too sure coz they didn’t confirm..but my guess situation is…..

But now to think of it…..snail is really mild….maybe just 3? But if u can…tis book is really cool…..I wish the author would write more of these kinds…ya…I was trying to post it..but I forgot how…ended up accidentally deleting my other post..the city of mercy….see..i really mean it when I say m bad at these Internet surf…. 🙁 so embarrassing….

I liked this authors writing so I googled on her books…..I’m reading this book called 君子好囚. It’s a sci-fi genre….abit weird…kinda like that Tina turner show max drome or whatever it was called…not as interesting.,,,.thinking of dropping it….at chapter 6. Dun think I will recommend it…so bizarre!! Another time travel story..but this time 200++years into the future where man and machine are just well…rolled into one big mess..but I’m trying to find back the kind of criminal minds kind of stories……I’m hooked onto sth that makes me try to figgure out who the killer is.

U want Somemore spoilers XX? I can give u Somemore……BJY is a superbly handsome bloke…cold, arrogant, aloof, 0 EQ, curt and proud…only person who can tame him is JY. BJY

I’ve been thinking, all these books should be adapted into dramas as they sound way more interesting that all those dramas out there especially for those who have not read the books.

Such a blurry line between a detective and a criminal psychologist. Sometimes I forget that BJY is not a detective here. Maybe becoz of this, I think i prefer the pairing of Mr Scotland Yard, Ji Bai and XuXu. Both of them is so compatible and they complement each other so well. Whilst BJY and JY seem to have a lot of rough edges. I can’t fathom how a person like JY without any professional training can actually execute the job that she’s undertaking, esp given that BJY is such a perfectionist. He is obviously in a league of his own whilst JY is but a linguistic major. At best, these two makeup a jigsaw puzzle, which does conjured up a complete image but with obvious lines and creases. But having said that and not dwell too much onto such flaws, I am still loving this book.

Why would anyone in the right mind frame put a huge bath tub in the living room? And the writer is so generous, she lavishly devoted almost an entire chapter to one single kiss!! If these are not enough to entice all the non-believers out there, I don’t know what else will….heehee…..(shifu, pls don’t club me, I know I’m learning all the wrong stuff…. but it’s all Pm’s fault).

Getting back to the serious stuff, (I’m upto chapter 48), but still found the gruesome scenes lacking the oomph. I’m such a sadist, always on a lookout for raw flesh and blood but can’t seem to get enough of it. Therefore, I hv to keep resisting the urge to fast forward to the main course of human shabu shabu. Arrghhhh….

Hey Pm, I’m feeling kinda down now. I get this feeling that Li Xun Ran is going to end up like Ming Tian (Paper Rose). Loved the girl, didn’t get her and then died a very sad death. Sob…sob….

Xinn u haven’t reached the shabu shabu yet? Yep..the other 2 cases pretty mild..esp the colleagues murder case…no blood…boring…..but coz they are all tied in..so well….bear with it…

But yes…..I can’t understand the bathtub either….like…eh.. Like Where do u drain the water to??….. Hv u reached the part to where they make out yet?? It’s totally hilarious….at least to me :p

But yes…my poor Li xun ran…..shall I give u a spoiler? Let me kw if u want k….

  14. XinnXinn
    XinnXinn February 14, 2014 at 9:44 am |

Oh my dear Pm, you are killing me. I almost forgot you fine combed everything to minute technical detail. How and where does the water drain to? Let me consult my plumber….hahaha…..I am getting hysterical here, someone, pls save me….

I’ve passed the make out chapter. Yes, it was utterly hilarious. BJY suggested that he wear night vision goggles becoz JY didn’t allow him to turn on the lights – this is the funniest part!!! But wink, wink…let’s not expose where this comes in, otherwise Peanuts or decembi will jump straight into this chapter and not read the rest of the book…lol…

No need for spoilers as I can guess as much. But why does Xun Ran need to die so painfully? I wish the writer would hv been easier on him and let him find love in another woman, Jian Xuan would hv been a good candidate.

But can you tell me if BJY will be injured again? He already suffered so much previously under the hands of that serial killer.

  15. Pm

And I just love old cheng mo….dun U think he’s cute??

    BIG BIG SPOILER!!!

No unnecessary sad deaths…dun worry….bright light at the end of the tunnel.

  17. XinnXinn
    XinnXinn February 22, 2014 at 3:34 pm |

Finally…..finished it after a time-out of half a week to read another book in between. Dunno why, after chapter 50 or so, I just had to take a breather.

Personally, I conclude that I still like Snail and Ji Bai/Xu Xu better by a mile. I think this was mainly becoz I never like my male lead being compromised or wounded. I couldn’t accept the fact that BJY was forced into cannibalism and tortured. Basically, in Snail, I was never tormented. Plus, I think Xu Xu was a lot more dynamic and had a much much more interesting personality than JY.

The other eerie aspect is given BJY’s exceptionally brain power, it makes me wonder if he was ever tempted to cross over to the dark side. It’s scary but I felt that there was a lot of similarities between BJY and whacko criminals like Xie Han.

But the humour in this book is definitely one up on Snail. This is mainly thanks to BJY’s stiff demeanour and low EQ. He is always so sarcastically and cynically funny. And he takes narcissism to a whole new level!!

All said, this book (especially) towards the last one third is not for the weak stomach. Even I couldn’t hack it. The description of flesh cutting and eating really almost made me vomit. I thought I had one strong stomach but it kept churning and churning by then.

Once again, I fully appreciate the writer’s efforts although there are readers who commented that she stole ideas from Criminal Minds. I can’t comment on this as I did not watch CM.

  18. Pm
    Pm February 23, 2014 at 10:15 am |

Xinn…you survived the grossness!!!! Haha….welcome to the shabu shabu club….looks like we shd discourage others from this book…the last one is really the cake.

But yes…after reading it…..I started to wonder if criminal profilers do cross over to the darkside….if they do….how do they get caught..coz they will just be too smart and able to bypass all police and legal loopholes….but the are just whackos like that…..sometimes I wonder why do they even bother to imprision them…wouldnt it be just safer to execute them…prevents escape and influence?

But dun u just love BJY?? I love him to bits…..I dun mind having a guy like him….but his character is just one of a kind…..I cannot imagine trying to win in an argument or comment….

But yes..it is a gross book..and yes..I vaguely recalled watching something similar on cm….I love cm…so well…I’m quite into gross stuff.. Was eating and reading at the same time…hehe…but I can’t seem to find anything similar to these kinds of genre….

I love his tortoise tho……hhmm….cute that it could understand humans…wonder if it’s possible in real life??

  19. Pm
    Pm February 23, 2014 at 10:16 am |

But the poor 4 people that were trapped in the box…so sad esp the kid…locked with the dog……

How do people become such nutcases????

  20. XinnXinn
    XinnXinn February 23, 2014 at 12:47 pm |

Omg….don’t even remind me about that four victims. Totally grossed me out. The writer stated that she could have actually described the skin peeling scenes in detail but at the end decided not to. I’m so relief she didnt, I would definitely not have been able to take it.

But I don’t love BJY. It would hv been too scary to hv such a partner. Gosh, half the time, I do wonder if he’s as crazy becoz he thinks like them.

Haha… good old tortoise Chen Mo is the cutest.

I’m amazed you read and ate at the same time. It really disturbed me that BJY was forced to eat raw human flesh, and compounded by Tommy drinking his blood. Gosh, you have one strong stomach!!!

But there’s one part I was quite confused about. What actually happened to Lin Yi Yang? Why did he get his mother to call his fiancée (BJY’s sister) and asked her to go to HK? What was the relevance of this part of the story?

  21. Pm
    Pm February 23, 2014 at 2:23 pm |

Actually I was thinking it would be quite cool to have mentioned…I wondered if he took off 1whole piece or bits….and was it before or after she died…..hhmmm….

I’m not so sure tho….coz xu xu was also a criminal profiler….but she does not seem to be all that off the scale….but it did mention tat xu xu is BJY’s student….but I guess it does take abit of having the same mind to read the same mind…except one uses for good..the other uses for evil….but if the good flips side..then it would be a big problem….

Ahh…..good old tommy…I think he’s the wackiest…XH mentioned that he is perverted….can’t imagine drinking blood laced with bits of flesh…poor BJY..his whole back and front had the scars of the slicing…wondered how JY felt having to see and touch..but then….even if it healed…it will still be skin n bones rite? Coz muscle and flesh does not grow back….hhhmm…not very realistic in that case……I would imagine just a body of scarred skin covering bones…..hehe..u r rite………I do have a strong stomach…hehe….. :p

Ya…tat part confused me greatly…….I didn’t see the relevance either…..at first I tot it was he was the culprit….that’s why he kissed BJY’s sister….and also that phone call…..but when it turned out not to be…..I wondered if it could be tat XH made use of him coz he was “relative” of BJY…but it didn’t make sense either….so I just ignored him…coz it didn’t even said what happened to him and how he got back either.

  22. XinnXinn
    XinnXinn February 24, 2014 at 3:21 am |

Actually, she got skinned only after she died. Just like the eight year old kid, his hands got chopped off only after dying (well, at least that was a small little consolation for me). But I think the young architect got the worst deal. Poor fella got his body flesh cut off piece by piece while he was alive. Yucks….even recollecting the scenes make me lose my appetite for lunch. Think I’ll just have salad today….lol…

  23. Pm
    Pm February 24, 2014 at 1:12 pm |

Phew….at least she died….I rem reading the boy was dead first then got cut…maybe I missed the one on the woman…..poor guy…he was a promising architect…..Li xun ran was also very sad….poor guy suffered too….even JY as well….
Honestly I was wondering if master psycho was really dead in the end or he staged a fake death…..but I guess if he blew up…he gotta be really dead…

Btw….I’m eating dinner n typing….haha…rice and radish kimchi…. :p red crunchy slices of radish in chili….hhmm…human shabu shabu??
Oky..tat was just to gross u out…hahaha… But I’m really eating it.

This book is so long. Glad that I finished it. Now, I can move on. Finished blood. Finished the chopped corpses. Finished the psychopaths. Finished the cannibals. I can sleep well tonight. Haha The main guy is so funny. He is so direct that sometimes I feel sorry for his Jian Yao. Bye my 4D professor and my Fu Zi Yu <3.

Hi. I’m currently reading When a Snail Loves, and you’re right, the cases are not as exciting or as gruesome as this one. I guess Bo Jin Yan and I are very similar in that we share the same love for grisly crimes. Lol. Watching too many episodes of CSI and Criminal Mind make me numb to all the gory details.

The chemistry between the female and male lead in Snail is great though. I am loving their interactions, and they do make a great crime fighting duo.

I love reading crime novel. If you do find any more interesting story in the same genre, please let me know.

  29. MoonBlossom
    MoonBlossom April 18, 2014 at 6:06 pm |

Yey, I have just completed this book! The author has created a very charismatic figure in Bo Jin Yan and the book is a worthwhile read because of him. This book is the complete opposite of Snail – it is slow at the beginning and interesting at the end. I gave up after chap 28 or so and started skimming until I got to the last case.

Thanks to all the spoilers, I survive all the gruesome details and was able to enjoy everything, especially BJY dedication to Jian Yao while remaining 100% professional at work. Their lovemaking scene is simply awesome, and totally rocks because …there are certain benefits when your boyfriend is a genius? is all I can say.

Overall, I love ‘Snail’ better because I fell in love with 2 loonies there, while there is only 1 lovable loony in ‘When He Comes’. BJY found a wonderful match in Jian Yao, but their chemistry is nowhere as powerful as Ji Bai/Xu Xu. Plus the middle part is uninteresting and would probably cause folks to drop this book halfway. But if you pick it up again, say around chap 48, it is a good read all the way to the end. Thanks for the recommendation! Hope you would also read this book : )

Hello! Thanks everyone for your recommendations! I have finally read the book and liked it so much that I reviewed it (4.5 stars) and translated chapter 33 (my favourite chapter! Jian Yao and Bo Jin Yan are so cute!).

The story starts with Jian Yao heading into a villa in the mountains. It sounds very secluded and even a little haunted at the start. Jian Yao is looking to get a temporary job as an interpreter during her university break around her rural hometown. This is when Jian Yao first meets Fu Zi Yu – not the first male lead, but that perfect supporting character who always knows what to say and supports both the female and male lead towards each other. Fu Zi Yu is a playboy doctor (with a painful past, don’t they always?) and the only friend of the reclusive genius criminal profiler, Bo Jin Yan. Jian Yao passes Bo Jin Yan’s test and becomes his interpreter.

She is also really good at fishing and this gains Bo Jin Yan’s interest since he really loves fish! A horrible case happens in the town and they actually suspect the reclusive Bo Jin Yan as the man who has been kidnapping random young boys. The police of course knows about Bo Jin Yan’s illustrious reputation as the top criminal profiler and ropes him in for the case – which he grudgingly accepts after insisting Jian Yao becomes his assistant.

That is the set-up and a very effective one! Bo Jin Yan as someone who is extremely intelligent but with no desires to follow social conventions is a delight. Especially, when he cannot fathom why Jian Yao will not be falling at his feet to become his assistant and he even psycho-analyses Jian Yao at the start. Creepy much? But, Ding Mo is so good at making the strange beautiful and the creepy interesting. Like, when Jian Yao goes and wakes up Bo Jin Yan from his bedroom (he demands she follows him 24/7 while they crack the case) when the corpses are found… Bo Jin Yan accidentally takes her hand and kisses it, calling her Cheng Mo. She freezes thinking that he mistook her for an EX girlfriend, but then quickly realises that Cheng Mo is the name of his large turtle. It’s these small subversive sleigh of hands that make this novel such a fun to read.

Thanks Decembi. I read part of the translated novel in English and I like Ding Mo’s writing style and story. The details, wit and humour. It really got my imagination all fired up and laughing at the imaginary scenes. Unfortunately, I do not know Chinese otherwise, I will surely buy and read her books. If this drama is successful, I hope there will be a sequel with more focus on the crime then getting to know the two main leads. And yes, I love Criminal Minds and Wire in the Blood. But Ding Mo’s touch of humour and wit in the suspense is everything I like. I look forward to this drama in October! Yay!

    Hi all! 🙂 New here!

I watched the drama as it aired on TV, it was all good until they whipped out that smart car/Tony Stark Iron Man Jarvis hybrid thing. And the next ep preview shows more holographic stuff. I didn’t really like how they did that especially since it wasn’t really part of the novel. I felt like they tried too hard to make the main guy cooler with these gadgets but they really aren’t necessary. And they changed Fu Zi Yu’s profession(?) I don’t get why that was necessary either =\ Aside from small things like that though, characters seem to fit well, looking forward to next eps ^^

@ ssw123 Thanks a lot for providing us with an alternate english version. I loving reading and watching the show. And I for one love Andy ( I have a crush on that car program.)

Andy is not a car system but an A.I (Artificial Intelligence). Yeah, he’s cute and a scene stealer.

@ Rebma It’s an IA inside of a car, hence it’s a car. When it’s inside a computer we say that it’s a computer.

@ Jenavy you can buy from Yesasia. Vol 1: http://www.yesasia.com/us/ta-lai-le-qing-bi-yan-shang/1035195707-0-0-0-en/info.html

    Vol 2:http://www.yesasia.com/us/ta-lai-le-qing-bi-yan-xia/1045071615-0-0-0-en/info.html

I imagine they’re much cheaper if you have family who can buy for you from Taiwan or HK instead of online though.

Erin – Try “Empress without Virtue” especially after the halfway mark. So many steamy scenes that I nearly labelled the book as Erotica. Complete oppo genre though. Set in ancient times n full of humour.
