Hua Qian Gu (The Journey of Flower ) 仙侠奇缘之花千骨 by Fresh 果果 Guo Guo (HE)

1554630_284277668425685_8493376930195264361_n

When they first met, he is the aloof and remote high deity of Chang Liu, whereas she secretly sneaked in by transforming into a small insect lying on the tree but was blown off into his wine cup. “Accidentally fell down?” His smile is mild but merciful, that was the only time in her life that she saw him like that eventhough for a mere insect. Because of a one year pact, she did everything possible, just so she will be able to eventually call him shifu. “Shifu why do you accept me as a disciple?”

He did not reply but gave her a small bell as a present, stroking her head lightly.

A shadowy figure in a billowing  white robe, standing visibly on top of the stone daily, overlooking the hills.

She vowed that she will never let him feel lonely anymore.

But the frequent companionship and mutual support in Heartless Hall finally came to an end.

To save him, she committed a really big blunder. However ……

“A mistake is still a mistake.” He remained indifferent.

Eighty-one overwhelming nails, as well as the highly raised unbreakable sword.

Shifu, do you know how painful it is to be hurt by the person you love most?

Do you know when you feel sorrow to the extreme but still holding on to the happy memories, unwilling to forget, longing day and night for that person is how painful and pitiful?

I don’t believe in good, don’t believe in evil, don’t believe in happiness, but I believe in you!

So, with a smile she did not give up, even if that love is colder than death.

“In this world, I am most scared of two things, ghosts and Shifu.”

“Jie’jie, you are so beautiful. You’re only flaw is that your chest is a little small.”

“This tongue is really obedient, sometimes it will need to be moistened with water, and sometimes I will need to open the roof to let it have some sun.”

“What do you mean leave her alone? What a joke! I can hold the world in my hands, what is so frightening about opposing fate?

“There is no like and there is no dislike. Therefore, no matter what method is used to live, it is insignificant to me.”

“I don’t believe in good, don’t believe in evil, don’t believe in happiness, but I believe in you!”

“Bai Zi Hua, if you dare harm her for your sect, I will slaughter your entire sect. If you damage her for the world, I will massacre the people of the world!”

“Noble character? Isn’t that just a phrase? A person who had to offer up his happiness, and sacrifice everything he has, does he still have feelings? My heart worries about Chang Liu, worries about the Xian realm, worries about all living things, but I have never done anything for her. I didn’t disappoint Chang Liu, didn’t disappoint the Six Realms, didn’t disappoint the world, but, in the end, I disappointed her and I disappointed myself.”

“He is the gentlest person in the world, and also the most heartless. I tried so hard for so many years, but I have never understood him. Now, I don’t need to understand, and I don’t want to. Whether to die or to live, he is now in my hands, I can do whatever I want.”

“I have no Shifu, no friends, no lovers, no children. I once thought I had the entire world, but it turned out to be fake. The one who loves me, died for me, the one I love wants me dead. The ones I believed in betrayed me. The ones I depended on abandoned me. I don’t need anything, I don’t want anything, I just want to live simply. But heaven is forcing me, you are forcing me! Do you think that now, I can still turn back?”

It sort of goes like, very angsty in the middle-end, tragic second to last chapter, somewhat open ending, and a happy extra. There are a bunch of other males and females in the story, but the only person that Hua Qian Gu loves would remain her Shifu. The quotes are from a variety of characters.

These quotes just sucks me in! I’m definitely reading this one next. Just need to quickly finish up my current book.

Is this the main guy? her Shi Fu? Painfullly reminds me of my Mu Zi Xin from inside Flowers of Love.

I’m actually not sure, but 仙侠奇缘 translates to The Strange Fate of Xianxia, so I’m assuming it’s almost calling the book, The Legend of Hua Qian Gu or something along the lines of such.

I started this book two nights ago & abt 10% done. It is very similar in feel to your Flowers of Love so I am sure you’ll like it:) It is so much more interesting than 歌尽桃花 which put me to sleep:P I think I like xian xia novels more than those time travelling or historical one. So many characters but I think her teacher hasn’t appeared yet unless he is disguised as someone else. Oh, I hope her ‘shifu’ has a nice voice or is described in a mouth watering way because I’ve never liked any of my teachers so I am lukewarm to their romance. If this book can win me over then it is a good book:)

You’re reading the audiobook right? This one: http://www.ysts8.com/Yshtml/Ys6570.html ?

If it’s not this version, please give me the link. The audiobook I found, the girl doesn’t put much effort into it. I don’t hear any differentiation between girl character and guy character voices. I’ve been spoiled silly by the cxt8 crew. I know you’re picky too, so if you can endure 10% of that audiobook, it might work for me too. lol

I downloaded 120 chapters in 1 compressed file from ysx8.com & the balance from ysts8 but I’ve checked that they are the same. Yes, sorry to tell you the audio book is not good. The pronounciation isn’t clear enough for me plus I have a hard time differentiating the voices so that is why after 2 days I am only 10% into the book:( Have to concentrate really hard. However the story is captivating & makes me want to continue so I’ve to endure the audio book as I can’t read Chinese:( Another minus point is no music:( If you can find a better broadcast, pls tell me.

You do know that it’s an incomplete version right?

I’m surprised the girl got it that far even. lol I’m sure she gets an earful because not many of those comments left for her are very nice. Really thought she should have practiced on a less popular piece. This book is very popular so it’s bound to be picked up.

The better one is not very finished either. It’s one of those voice dramas where they have 5+ people in a project. Those never get finished. I think they only have 1 part up which is like 50mins?

  14. peanuts

The only incomplete bit is the epilogue right? I am nearly to the point of no rtn but luckily I can still stop now if I want to. Such a dilemma as the story so far is quite good but the audio book really sucks. Why the voice drama is incomplete? Because it has just started or the project is abandoned? I like many voices as there are quite a lot of characters in this book so I need diff voices for them.

thanks sherry! hm.. i just listened to 2 chapters of this and it’s not actually as bad as i expected. just the distinction between guy/girl is not as great, only slightly lower than usual, but she does make some distinction still. Just went over to ysts8 and it seems like the same version, but that’s expected since if a novel’s been made into an audiobook already others will likely not make another one.

Seriously want to read this so much. The first two chapters so far so good~

I wrote no music. I guess it should be no song. The music is pale in comparison to others on ctx8 website. It is not very bad but bad if you compare it to ctx8 works. If there is no better alternative then this is tolerable if you take the time to listen to it properly but cannot marathon it like ctx8 audio books.

Wow, great minds think alike as I’ve resumed this book:P I am at chapter 13 now & the teacher has come out. I don’t feel anything for him yet. I think there are 3 guys beside the teacher, the one she called gege, the one who is a royalty & the one who wants to marry her. So far, i like the one who wants to marry her bcos he is funny:)

Actually the reader isn’t that bad in that she sounds young & has a sweet voice. Just that there is a lack of music & there is not enough differentiation in the voices. Is it read by a single person?

Yes, the opening a bit scary. I thought it is a ghost story as she kept on seeing ghosts & the dad died. I like the girl’s characters. Later, she’ll have a pet worm & the worm will call her mummy, haha….The story is quite funny & adventure filled.

  23. chancy426
    chancy426 August 18, 2012 at 9:02 pm |

It’s read by one person. lol I actually read the first chapter in chinese and translated half a chapter before finally giving up. I don’t think I want to do 100+ chapters. Also, reading Glass Maiden helped slightly to get into this reader’s style. I think I’m also just not use to aunties reading to me. hehe Have to say thought, the reader for Glass Maiden has more emotions in her reading, it’s just the voice of a 10 year old isn’t very matching.

I’m actually using this novel to satisfy a regret inside 六花禁爱.

Correction: There are 2 guys bside the teacher who is Lang gege who is a royalty & Dong Fang blah blah who is the scholar. So far, I like these 2 guys more than that teacher Bai. Why in xian xia novel they like the surname Bai? Also, the girl’s name is 1000 bones. Yuk, yuk such an ugly name:(

    @peanuts
huhuhu….I wish I could say I’ve made progress on this but only 3 chaps have been translated so that’s what I’m stuck at. The little girl in this is really cute like Chong Zi, but I think it’s a bit sadder for her b/c she attracts ghosts (scary!!) and kills flowers the moment she touches them (sad!!). I’m still at all the way at the beginning where she meets the seer in the place full of tongues.

I’ve read reviews that say the teacher in this is uptight and annoying like Chong Hua, and there’s a prince character like Qin Ke but his personality is more like Zhuo Hao. And there’s a really cute pet worm too?

  28. Peanuts
    Peanuts August 22, 2012 at 2:59 am |

I will wait for you to read more translations b4 we discuss but you’ve to keep me up to date with your progress. Don’t worry, later when she take bath in some ponds b4 being allowed to become a disciple, her ghost aura will lessen. This book has more adventures than Chong Zi. Also, she is not as pitiful as Chong Zi as the people in Kunlun sect treat her quite ok except a snooty girl & a mysterious guy.

Most teachers are uptight & annnoying. Thats is why I don’t see the love for them. I think most people in China hold their teachers in high esteem & some have secret crush on them so got this kind of books:P Yes, the prince is Lang gege. Got another guy called Dong Fang. He wanna marry Qian Gu becos he saw her bathing but Qian Gu said I am only a 12 yrs old so nothing for you to see, hahahahah…Don’t get me started on tat super cute worm. I ship the worm with Qian Gu the most, hahaha…

Since Peanuts asked, here is the major character list. If anything is incorrect, please correct it. Beware of spoilers.
Bai Zi Hua- the head of Chang Liu, Qian Gu’s shifu
Sha Qian Mo- the leader of the Yao and Mo realm, is the most beautiful guy in the world, Qian Gu calls him Jiejie, gives Qian Gu a bone whistle that she can use to call for him
Dong Fang Yu Qing- Yi Xiu Ge’s (Creepy tongue location) owner, human, constantly reincarnates over and over, but keeps his memory
Xuan Yuan Lang- human, the prince who will be king, gives Qian Gu a piece of jade that will protect her
Yun Yi and Yun Yin- the twin brothers of Kunlun, no matter what Yun Yi desires, he would have to protect Yun Yin from harm, therefore Yun Yi hates Yun Yin to the bone, Yun Yin was the one who destroyed Mt. Mao Sect
Tang Bao- the cute little worm that is very knowledgeable
Luo Shi Yi- Mo Yan’s student, very nice guy, gets along very well with Tang Bao
Qing Shui- one of Qian Gu’s friends and classmate, is in love with Xuan Yuan Lang, eventually gives up immortality for him
Ni Man Tian- the bully, very skilled in magic, is in love with Luo Shi Yi, except chose to be his student
Mo Yan- one of the leaders of Chang Liu, very serious character, cannot stand dishonor of any kind, in the same generation as Bai Zi Hua and Sheng Xiao Mo, his student is Luo Shi Yi
Sheng Xiao Mo- upper generation, very relaxed character
Zi Xun Qian Xia- a fallen Xian who is in love with Bai Zi Hua
Zhu Ran- once a Chang Liu disciple under Mo Yan, is scarred by the Pool of Avarice and was banished to the Wildlands where Qian Gu eventually meets him, very ambitious and selfish character
Nan Wu Yue- Yao Shen’s incarnation, growth stops around 10 years old
You Rou- Yu Di’s granddaughter, Bai Zi Hua accepts her as Qian Gu’s student, likes Qian Gu very much
Mo Bing Xian- a Xian who looks like Bai Zi Hua, even though Mo Bing Xian is much older, he uncontrollably takes energy from whoever he touches

Thank you very much Sky. Sending you a big hug, lol. A very comprehensive list where I don’t know half of the people. Eeee Sha Qian Mo is the guy that Qian Gu thought is a girl. Don’t like him as he gives me the creep. WJ is absolutely better. I can’t remember who is Zhu Ran. So, it means Mu Yu will turn bad. Btw, one half of the twin who serves Qian Gu in the now defunct sect & his twin evil bro are not impt characters? Lastly, DFYQ is the owner of that place where Qian Gu went to ask how to go up to the mountain?

  32. chancy426
    chancy426 September 13, 2012 at 3:53 am |

lol u’re getting more insights for Chong Zi characters through characters in Hua Qian Gu.

I think that If I were to read both books, the thing I would like best about Hua Qian Gu would also be that it all happened in one life time rather than split into a few lifetimes. Even if the reincarnated version of you is told what happened in your previous life, it still feels like it’s someone else’s story and the feeling you get from it is still different and can sometimes be misinterpreted because it’s not being told by yourself. What you’ve experienced in your life makes up the way you feel about different events and happenings. You might be able to accept what has happened in that same lifetime, but when retold in the second lifetime the way you lived that new life might change your thoughts about things. Does Chong Zi#2 even have her memories of her previous life as Chong Zi#1?

  33. Peanuts
    Peanuts September 13, 2012 at 4:14 am |

I think the author of Chong Zi is writing a fusion book, part Qian Gu & part 3L3W or Floating Dreams:) I like few lifetimes book but not in the shifu genre. If I can write Chinese, after I finish these 2 books I’ll write an improved version incorporating the xian characters in Qian Gu & mo characters in Chong Zi & my ending will definitely not be with the shifu:P I’ll banish the shifu to stay forever on top of the mountain all alone, lol.

Just imagining that scene you created of the Shifu staying on top of the mountain alone forever makes my heart hurt. For a xian that sacrificed his own happiness as exchange for peace among the 6 realms. Ayeeee……If u’re writing, make sure to kill him off in the end, that way he won’t need to endure an endless loneliness thinking about that within hand reach happiness that could have easily been his. He is so powerful, how to wipe out his memory? Anyway memory can be recovered anytime.

That reminds me of Twice Blooming Flower, something forgotten means it’s meant to be remembered.

Below is a book reviewer’s comments which mirror mine. I am too lazy to translate so get google to do it for you if you can’t read Chinese:P

  39. skyblu629
    skyblu629 September 13, 2012 at 11:22 am |

Well, if you had something once and then lost it, it’s much more painful than not having it at all. Leaving him on top of that mountain is really tragic. Usually, after the shifu chooses the world over his student, he encounters some depression, guilt, craziness that almost turns him into a Mo. Have someone kill him at that time, and because his shixiong/shidi care about the shifu so much, they decide to throw his soul into reincarnation. Without divine intervention, he’ll never recover his memories.

Peanuts: ey, skyblu, I am lazy so pls give me the name of Dong Fang Yu Qing, Xuan Yuan Lang plus that worm name in Chinese so I can leave a msg for my C gege to lobby him, lol.

东方彧卿, 轩辕朗, 糖宝. I adored Dong Fang Yu Qing, and his ending was just terrible. Luckily, he reincarnates with all of his memories. Lol, I forgot you all are audiobook addicts.

That is one strange name. Is it meant to be a pun, literal, or a mix of both? The only idiom I can think of that relates would be 燕肥环瘦. But based on summary, I don’t think it really relates.

Breaking news but I don’t know how accurate. Some readers were commenting C gege is not suitable to be 白子画. They said Abu’s voice has the master feeling which I agree. C gege’s voice is soft & mild, suitable for funny or youthful role. Abu’s voice is firm & serious. But I’ll always think of him as LYF. Thus, I think cxt8 has no choice as Abu & C gege are the best. Come to think of it, maybe should have asked Abu to be the shifu here & see how he can convince us he is 白子画 & not LYF.

Wait, wait, so who’s playing what role? And is Bu-gege going to be in this too? I’m really super excited for this!!! And I think even if C-gege plays 白子画 he can pull it off. Actually I think he can sound quite serious when he wants to. It’s just he doesn’t want to most of the time. I sort of hope that 棉音 can play 千骨 though…

I finished 寡人有疾. It’s okay…I liked the readers more than the story. It just didn’t have a clear tone and I felt I was in a different book in the second half. I think given HXY’s premise the ending felt just right. But for this it’s like the writer suddenly sunk her own boat. And the characters were sort if 2D until the last three chapters or something. It was rather entertaining at the beginning though.

So tempted to start And Who Gets the World…….

I’m curious if Ah Bu can separate Bai Zi Mo and Luo Yin Fan as well, but we’ll never know. haha As for C-gege, I think he can do it. It’s just that it is pretty awkward hearing him play a gentle guy. lol Surprise us you know?

I really love the girl reader after reading her 2 books. She’s definitely among my top 3 girl readers.

And Who Gets the World flies by too fast, I wouldn’t recommend it because suddenly I started reading 5 chaps a day. lol She updates fairly slow paced and it’s only at 97? I think there is half way more to go. Not sure though.

Sob sob, no Abu in this book. I think bcos this book is too similar to Chong Zi so they don’t want anyone fr Chong Zi. I don’t know who is playing who. Not even sure if Cgege is leading. Just read some listeners’ comments. I think some of the listeners communiciate with some readers via QQ or weibo etc. If C gege is really leading, arrrrgh I’ve to ship the shifu, so sad:(((( I am sure C gege can read the shifu but I think the listeners are right. Abu will be better than C gege bcos of the quality & texture of his voice. In Mirage, Cgege’s reading put me to sleep, lol.

Wah atsu, you didn’t wait for me & finished 寡人有疾:( Heehee, never mind bcos I can’t stop Who Gets the World. I did try a chapter of 寡人有疾 long time ago but wasn’t that interested. Who Gets the World is really addictive. With your speed you’ll catch up in no time. The reader needs lots of time to produce such high quality audiobook. Arrrgh this book makes me wanna go back to listen to Chong Zi, just for Abu’s voice, lol.

    chancy426 December 17, 2012 at 11:41 pm |

lol Texture. I like how you put it. Ah Bu has a very smooth voice. I totally agree! You will miss out on Cgege’s 2nd best voice (best voice is Dong Hua) if you don’t listen to 寡人有疾. He’s so bad in there too which I think is totally the type you like. haha

    >< I can't use QQ because I don't have a China number. I was only able to start communicating with my cousins in China after downloading the WeChat app.

*Sigh* I think that Hua Feng will play ShiFu. I doubt they will have him play just old characters that aren't very important. Cgege always gets stuffed with those roles when he is costaring with another guy reader. Kind of like with Niao in Mirage. I can't imagine Hua Feng playing Qing Ke or Zhuo Hao like characters, just the thought makes me cringe. His voice is just too old sounding.

What kind of spoiler you want as there are many characters in the book? If you want to know if she end up with her teacher, the answer is yes. I think a good audiobook on this novel will be released later so you can listen to it if can understand Mandarin. I’ve just read about 10% of the book and is waiting for the audiobook. There are also another extra 2 epilogues so you need to wait longer for my post as I need time to read them all. Plus, I’ve a fair bit to write to bash Bai Zi Hua, lol. I’ve written about 50% but I got distracted by Fresh Fruit’s other book, heehee…..

    queenanon September 10, 2013 at 2:50 pm |

About the epilogues, I’m starting to get a bit confused about how many versions of it are there, so please correct me if I’m wrong:

There’s one that came with the 1st edition of the novel published in China in which BZH and HQG reunited at the end and she got her memories back but lost her physical senses. She eventually got everything cured except for her eyes.

Then there’s another one that came with the Taiwan edition that included the gamble and HQG had her eyes cured at the end.

There was one that the author wrote as a joke where HQG married all 5 guys but that one was never finished because the author abandoned it to write her next novel. This “joke” epilogue wasn’t published in a book…?

The newest epilogue is the one that comes with the new revised edition of the novel that was published this year. This epilogue apparently ties in with the events of the main story…?

I took a look at the link and you’re right – it’s got the 5 guys epilogue too. It’s a funny piece and great for a laugh but it doesn’t really fit with the main story unlike the other ones like the gambling one, etc. Those ones feel like an extension of the book while this 5 guys one feels more like a parody/skit :D

Actually Fresh Gor Gor wrote that silly epilogue long ago on her blog for fun only. It is not really meant to be part of the book but when the revised book was published, they decided to put everything in, I think hoping to improve sale.

I meant to reply you on the casting of HQG but I always forget abt it:( I don’t mind Hu Ge as Dong Fang but he won’t get the girl again. After DMY, I am not sure if I can see him all alone again:( How abt letting HG be BZH? I am sure HG will be able to pull it off since BZH looks young. Then get HG’s good fren YH as Dong Fang. This will be my dream cast, lol. Although LSS is a tad too old and not cheeky enough, I dun mind having her as Xiao Gu, just to watch HG & YH fighting over her, lol.

But that remains a dream only as I doubt both of them will star together in anything but Karen’s production. At least get someone established as BZH &/or DF since this is such a popular book. I’ve been thinking maybe Wallace Chung can be BZH since he always have that pained look, lol.

    Hi!

Was wondering if anyone can help me with a question regarding the audiobook version of HQG (with audiobook link above). So I started listening to the cxt8.com version and am enjoying it but when I got up to chapter 9, I have to start paying for the rest of the story to continue listening, which is fine because I’m willing to pay for it since I like the story but can’t read it myself in chinese, lolz….
My dilemma is I’ve created an account with cxt8.com however I don’t know how to top up my account/ put funds in it so that I can continue listening. All the payment forms are all through Chinese banks or chinese paypal services of which I don’t have because I live in Australia. Is there a way to get around it?
Or is there any suggestions of where I can listen or download the rest of the story?
Hoping someone can help! Many thanks in advance.

    @Nhube

The audiobook can be download for free on this site:
    http://www.ysts8.com/Yshtml/Ys6570.html

OH MY GOD. This audiobook was sooo good not only cus bulandde was one of the voice actors again <3 Unff his voice is so dreamy. Can't get over it. This novel is x3430829048092384092 times better than Chong Zi! The secondary/side characters were very well developed, all with their own back story. Hua Qian Gu wasn't a smart quirky female lead. I am usually turned off by the damsel in distress, *cough* chong zi. I didn't really like Bai Zi Hua's character, cus once again, similar to Luo Yin Fan, both guys never really did anything for the female lead and is always repulsed by the teacher/student relationship and always pushed the girl away. Both also let their "face" or more like pride/status/etc. get in the way of making an accurate position. Both female leads, HQG & CZ were pushed into "mo" cus of the righteous "xian" or the so-called good side. I felt that both stories had points of similarity: Female leads had a cursed "evil aura" and were pushed into a path of pain by the so-called "good" xian realm. They both fell for the first man who gave them warmth and care, who unfortunately is their teacher (shi fu). Both men gave up the little girl they took in as their disciple for the fate of the world that they were responsible for. In the end, unable to accept the teacher/disciple relationship, pushing the girl away further and hurting them for the "greater good". Only to realize they love the girl that they hurt over and over again, and ends in regret for their actions, then tried to win her back. By that time it's too late, the little disciple has already become a 'mo', has already been hurt too many times by the world and by the one they love.

There are notable difference in both novels. I prefer HQG since the second/third/fourth male leads were all so lovable. Their ends were so sad too! I wish HQG ditched her stupid shi fu and went for one of the others. T_T Tang Bao (the worm) made this book so much more enjoyable as well!

    Hey AcrossTime,

Did you read my book summary? I anti-shifu & pro Dong Fang 😛 If the production coy cast Chen Xiao as Dong Fang, he can give WH a run for his money. Unfortunately the supporting casts have the word loser written on their foreheads so no match for BZH 🙁 I also prefer this book to CZ for the same reasons as you. Guess what? CZ will also be made into a drama!!! So painful right lol?

You’ve listened to nearly all of Bu Lan De’s audio books so what you gonna do next lol? U’ve listened to When Spring Comes, right?

I don’t encourage ppl to listen from the pirate site but since you’ve posted the link, let it be. But I need to warn you that you need to protect your computer properly & fully b4 you download anything bcos I got infected by virus from that site before 🙁

Oh, oops sorry! It’s the only site I’ve found that allows me to direct download since you need to pay for VIP books on cxt8 and all of abu’s projects are >.<

I haven't read yet but am on my way to find it ! I'm team dong fang too! Lol the drama adaptation has no good male supporting cats… I really don't think Wallace makes a good BZH tho. He doesn't really match with zhao li ying for some reason. And they made all the male cast's eyebrows all wacky. As far as the trailer goes it's looking good cus I love zhao li ying and Wallace (just not together). Idk Chen Xiao… I liked him in first female prime minister but his role in xiao ao Jiang hu made me hate him so much! CZ seems so lacking after reading this novel. I didn't really like cz as a character until after she became 'mo' and even then her character was iffy.

I've listened to most of Abu's books. Currently on 求魔. I've listened to when spring comes already. I still have wgtw on repeat though. Any other recommendations?? I'm not too much of a 小編c fan tho. I really liked the one that did bai li jun hua's voice in fu sheng meng! Do you know if he has any other works??

On a side note I've read the side story where hqg married 5 guys. Then on baidu a user continued to make a fan fiction out of it since 果果 never finished it. I can't make an account on baidu since it needs a phone number. I'm so sad :((

    @acrosstime

haha. I switched to team dongfang halfway through the book because I really couldn’t stand how BZH was hurting huaqiangu despite knowing how much she sacrificed for him. But after reading the whole book and realising how much he did for her e.g. sending the tiny pig like monster to take care of her when she was in the wilderness, that he was unaware of her injury and being whatever she needed him to be i.e. a parent and shifu when she reincarnated into a young child made me feel that he really deserved her.

I think this book is the best because it really talks about what true love is, selfless giving and sacrific, rather than just a romantic notion of liking someone.

For example how huaqiangu was wiling to suffer silently to save BZH and how BZH was willing to take 64 nails for her and seal her demon god powers or how Dongfang was willing to die a tragic death for her were all good demonstrations of acts of selfless giving.

Haha. I really liked how huaqiangu explained xuan yuan lang’s feelings for her as well – rather than loving her, he was loving the image of her in his memories when they were children and the desire to own something he could not have and the person he truly loved was qingshui who had silently accompanied him over all those years.

It was one of the few romance novels where i thought it was super meaningful and put into perspective what love really was.

Haha, just my twocents on the book=)

@klutzyfeli I get where you’re coming from but I hate the fact that he realizes and does things for her when it got too late. Of course, because of all he did I didn’t hate him by the end of the book, unlike Luo Yin Fan (from CZ) but still, dong fang appeals to me more. I have quite the second lead syndrome sometimes.

I just wished there were more hot guys to play these roles ya know. But aside from the Hu Ge, Yuan Hong, Wallace Huo combo and maybe throw Eddie Peng in there, there hasn’t been any other actor that screamed hotness in the industry lately. I know people have been going gaga over qiao zhen yu (from gu jian qi tan) but to me he’s a younger carbon copy of ruco chan (TVB anyone?). But honestly I miss Hu Ge so muchhhh!

And omg you MUST YOU MUST, I repeat MUST read Who Gets the World (且试天下) It is mine and peanuts absolute favourite. The audiobook is like a drama without the screen. You have to give it a shot! You’ll love it, trust me.

@Acrosstime: Don’t u have frens or relatives in China to help u pay? Support Abu, support original mah:P Wah u listening to this super long novel 求魔, good luck to u lol. Btw, you don’t listen to modern novel right?

How many times have u listened to WGTW? Since u’ve 2nd lead syndrome, then u should support Yu Wu Yuan instead of black fox lol.

Why u need an a/c in baidu? I don’t have an a/c but I hang out there nearly daily lol. U can access everything with ipad. I know when u use laptop, that annoying login page will keep popping up.

Aiya, the link to my summary is right at the top of this page & it is in my blog. U so dun give face, never search for it, so easy 😛 Don’t lose my blog address ever again 😛
    https://hui3r.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/xian-xia-qi-yuan-zhi-hua-qian-gu-novel-summary-spoilers-%E4%BB%99%E4%BE%A0%E5%A5%87%E7%BC%98%E4%B9%8B%E8%8A%B1%E5%8D%83%E9%AA%A8/

@klutzyfeli: 1st impression is very impt. The moment I met Dong Fang, I was sold already so I never liked BZH at all no matter how great his love & sacrifice was later. Also, I don’t like cradle snatcher, teacher/student r/s & characters who torture each other!

WGTW is a really good novel but u may feel dry if u only read the ebook. Thus u must listen to the audio book together with reading the ebook then you’ll be greatly entertained. Yes, good ending if u ship the right guy lol.

@Peanuts dear, to be fair I’ve actually come across that post when I was creeping around your blog when I first found it 😛 Sadly I’m a CBC, soo I know my relatives but I don’t really know them so it’s a pity 🙁 And I’m not usually a fan of modern since it always involves some richguy/poorgirl scenario. I’ve always been strictly xian xia/wu xia/ancient when it comes to books but I do watch all types of dramas! If it’s Abu reading a modern drama I might listen to it 😉

I think I’ve at least listened to WGTW 8 times. Usually when I don’t have enough time to start a new project or just because I miss Abu’s and 眠之域’s voice. I loveee the female voice. It’s so nice and refreshing. So far I think I’ve only found her other novel, Glass Maiden (I think?) and haven’t gone around to listening to that yet but it does sound promising.

HEYY. My sexy black fox was too good to kick in the “SLS” okay! I think I was slightly moved by Yan Ying Zhou in the first 2 chapters, until he “died” of course. But Qing Ling Yue made HFX such a bad boy, no, bad MAN character that a second lead usually has who can resist? (Obviously the new scriptwriter of the drama adaptation can T_T) I don’t think anyone can jump on the wrong ship for this novel, so please go listen to it !

I was trying to read my fanfiction on baidu but after the first page they kept saying I needed an account to go to the next page 🙁 And my samsung tab is a bit glitchy at times so I prefer the laptop. Let’s see if I can find a way around this.

No la, not all modern stories are Cinderella. Abu did a modern one which even the author praised him but the plot is weird and the female lead is annoying and crazy so strictly for Abu’s fans. He also did another famous book for a radio station. There is another guy who did modern novels which we used to have a crush on. Thus, if you are interested in modern novels, tell me. If not, don’t waste my strength lol.

Btw Abu did another book which is kind of similar to WGTW but an inferior one. Also, the reader for Huang Chao got his revenge here as he is the lead & will get the girl. Abu is the 2nd lead but since u’ve 2nd lead syndrome, you should give it a try lol. See most ancient novels also pretty similar eg fighting for the throne or good vs evil.

In the 1st place, Liu Li’s Wisdom Flower with the same author as Hua Qian Gu which I posted in SSB is not a good novel. At the beginning 眠之域 read it solo so kind of dry. Later, she got others to help out but I don’t like the male lead’s voice:( Why don’t you like Xiao Bian C? He did The Pillow Book very well. Actually there are a few other male readers who are pretty good but unfortunately either their books didn’t get finished or their books are not to my taste. If u are desperate, I can recommend u later.

Aiya, just copy & paste the address in Galaxy then you also can find the page on your laptop. Remember there is nothing u can’t find online as long as u’ve the address 😛

SPOILERS——————-@apearlyview, yeah it was a ‘happy ending’ for most of the characters, depending on how you see it. The people who died because of Hua Qian Gu got resurrected after she sacrificed herself. Dong Fang lived out his fate as the master of Yi Xu Ge, reincarnating and dying a age 25 (or 20, depending on the version). In this ‘next lifetime’, he tried to win Qian Gu one more time, but finally realised that she still loves Bai Zi Hua in spite of everything, and decided to let her go. To me, there was no happy ending for the 2 leads. Hua Qian Gu has lost herself, and Bai Zi Hua is no longer the Bai Zi Hua she fell for.

    bookwormatstarbucks July 25, 2015 at 12:24 am |

@karenedramaddictions What do you mean by “Hua Qian Gu has lost herself, and Bai Zi Hua is no longer the Bai Zi Hua she fell for”
    ????
If it means that he is no longer the cold, aloof guy and she is no longer just an innocent girl – then I totally agree with you.
… that is what you mean right? because I couldn’t sleep until I flipped to the end and with my poor reading skills managed to drag myself through the end. 😀 :))

  115. karenedramaddictions
    karenedramaddictions July 25, 2015 at 2:32 pm |

@bookwormatstarbucks I need to caveat that this is my personal opinion, because I know some readers felt that the ending was a happy one in that Bai Zi Hua finally realised his love for Hua Qian Gu and gave up everything to be with her and to “atone” for his “wriong choices”.

But to me, the author has painted Bai Zi Hua’s image so successfully as the ultimate immortal – he is aloof because he has seen so much of life that all emotions, pains, happiness, even lives themselves are transient, he shoulders the responsibility for maintaining the delicate balance among each world (mortal, immortal, demons, ghosts, spirits) because he has the ability and was entrusted by his teacher to take on that role.

And I felt that that was what Hua Qian Gu saw in him. She loved the Bai Zi Hua who cared for the world more than for himself.

But in the end, her love for him forced him to become another person.

A series of unfortunate circumstances pushed Hua Qian Gu towards selfishness, and also made Bai ZI Hua a selfish person. Not that I’m against selfishness in love, but at least for Bai Zi Hua, his name equates selflessness so it felt like the very defining quality in him was gone.

And don’t get me started on Dong Fang.

I really enjoyed the novel, but the ending was painful and I don’t think I can bear reading it again.

  116. bookwormatstarbucks
    bookwormatstarbucks August 10, 2015 at 1:40 pm |

@karenedramaddictions I completely agreed with you in that aspect and when I read it, albeit at a snail’s pace, I felt that too but disregarded it.
Now that you have mentioned it, I revisited it and kind of soaked in it for a bit.

Since I read it in Vietnamese, his name’s meaning did not strike me as much but as a character I felt like he had faced his fatal calamity and lost – despite living. One can say that death is not always ‘losing’. As a personal preference, I like characters that remain true to who they are from the beginning to the end and you were right to say that BZH didn’t because that self less nature, that ability to carry the world on his shoulders and not fall is gone to some degree, which you stated and is very much correct.

He crumbled and disregarded everything he has built up for himself and lived by until meeting her. I don’t hate her (HQG) but I feel like the author could have somehow kept that selfless nature that you mentioned without making it something he was doing because after HQG forgave him and told him to get back to doing at the end.

Maybe if in the epilogue she redeemed him by making him go through the same actions but this time maybe paying more attention to HQG and softening a bit for her then I agree with you that the ending would be a happy one. But to completely turn into a mess with no will power whatsoever despite being able to strongly go forth and hurting each other for god knows how long – the disappointment there is strong for me and shows that maybe he faced his fatal calamity and lost because the BZH in the beginning is dead and I think you saw this too. He has now turned into a man who only lives for one person. This may sound romantic to some, and trust me it did to me when I was 13, but now looking at this I think it’s unhealthy and a complete disrespect to the character and fans to turn such a great character with strong beliefs into a mush and a stereotypical lovesick fool.

Yes, after her death he went mad for 30 years in search for her – that part is perfectly logical but the actions afterwards when she grew older and when she starts to hand ideas of leaving him and when he brought her up the mountain – I think (my opinion folks) that it could have been done better or in a way that the old BZH that we fell for in the last 2 or so books was still there, not replaced by a mere shadow of a great man.

I am not bashing BZH to those who are reading the comment section for clues to the end. I am just reconsidering after reading the novel. The glamour wears off after a while and you go back with a fine tooth comb. It’s still enjoyable so go ahead and read it.

But to @karenedramaddictions, yes I agree with you. The term ‘Happy Ending’ should be taken with a grain of salt and especially being a fan of Dong Fang (the pain!) that term shouldn’t be used. LOL essay response but thanks for getting me thinking. Feels good to discuss with someone with opposing ideas 😀
