This novel is about a low ranking staff Shan Shan being oppressed by the Big Boss. She keeps fighting but keeps losing. So she finally stopped struggling and obediently surrendered…
Shan Shan extremely docile waited outside the delivery room as the temporary blood bank. At the same time, the big boss sent her away to do a blood test to ensure she is of good health and suitable blood type.
Sure enough, the pregnant woman was in a critical condition. Thus, Shan Shan obediently let 300CC of her blood being pumped. The condition of the pregnant woman improved. Shan Shan received many thanks, left the hospital and lamented this while looking at the moon.
“Capitalists really are blood-suckers, heartless, heartless.”
Shan Shan who is deep in thought did not notice a black limousine stopped behind her. The man at the back seat heard her sigh, moved his mouth and then closed the recently opened window.
“Boss, did you just say you want to send Miss Xue back?”
“No need” the man said without expression, “Capitalists are heartless.”

peanuts, I hope you like 杉杉来吃. The plot is actually pretty thin, just a Cinderella-type story, and there’s no drama/angst/evil characters. Gu Man’s style is sweet and funny stories. Usually, there aren’t any major angst/tearker dramas/crazy secondary characters/terminal sickness. If there’s an evil character in 杉杉来吃, it’d probably be the main guy’s cook b/c he makes these awful dishes that the main girl has to eat…lol.
But I really like this story because of the main couple’s out-of-this-world cuteness!! The main girl is about as ditzy as Jin Mi in Heavy Sweetness. Hence lots of hilarious things happen b/c the main couple.
Happy Lunar New Year Everyone !!!! In view of the festive season, I’ve decided to post this cute & funny book. Gu Man, the writer is well known as being the slow turtle is very popular in the C-novel world. 2 of her modern novels got the top 2 spots on the top 100 novels poll. Lidge who loves to read comedy books is a rabid fan & I think she loves this book the most. Anyway her 2 other books which have been posted in SSB are well-loved by most of the scholars. I plan to listen to the radiodrama in the next few days for some laughs:)
Happy Lunar New Year, everyone~~
May the year of the Snake bring good fortune, peace, happiness, good food, and plenty of sleep….and for anyone who wants one, a hot boyfriend, lol.
haha I don’t need a hot BF, I just want a BF. lol Happy New Years girls!
Peanuts, I’ve been verrrrrrry busy lately. There shouldn’t be any spam problems now. But I made so that all new registering members will be subscribers only (with commenting permission, no new post creation permission). For those who want to post new books. They will need to be verified as a real member (through comment content and we’ll knew that they are real ppl because we talk to them). We’ll need to manually change their permission to Author instead of Subscriber. Lidge, XiaoYuer, SkyBlue, and those who log in with accounts are already Author permission and can post books. I’ve promoted you to Administrator so you can more easier do stuff.
Happy Lunar New Year everyone….I’ll add to Lidge’s list of wishes – plenty of good, cute n funny books to read in this snakey year.
Yes, yes, I have heard about 衫衫来吃. My best pal who’s a HK, recommended this book to me some weeks back. I am definitely going to check this out after I complete 你不入地狱谁入地狱.
Happy Lunar New Year!! You guys are the awesomest best pals! I’m so happy to have found and met fellow novel addicts and great friends. You guys put a smile on my face all the time!
How is SSLC, Peanuts? How does it hold up to WeiWei and HYSXM? I’ve been shopping for a bit and dabbling things but haven’t found exactly “the one” yet ^^
Hi Atsu, I sent you 2 gmail, one a few weeks ago & another one last week but no response:( Did i get banned or put into the spam folder:(? Gmail thinks that I am trying to sell you peanuts, lol? The first issue has been resolved as I found the bulk download site. The 2nd email is nothing impt but I am just wondering.
I’ve not started with SSLC yet. I posted it bcos Gu Man’s books are always popular. Plus it is new year, so lets ‘eat’, lol. Lidge seems to like this book the most but she is bias when it comes to staff & boss romance:P I’ll leave a comment once I get started on it. If you are faster than me, pls leave a comment.
You finished 200 chapters of that wuxia novel with Abu & Xiao Meng? I kept falling asleep so has put it on hiatus at chapter 40 but I read the spoilers, lol. Hey, listen to Good Morning, spy. It is really good & I am up-to-date so waiting for more:( Btw, I’ve just started Bao Zhu’s Ghost Talk. It is ok, not scary but kind of funny. C gege is really good.
Oh my, Peanuts I am so sorry!! No, no you were not in the bulk file – it’s just that I have too many email accounts so I get them all mixed up and some of them get neglected sometimes. I am sorry!!! I am going to reply to both emails right now!
I did not finish that wuxia novel with Abu and Xiao Meng…. I just need a break. It’s a bit draggy. I was reading 人生若只初相见. I don’t really like the reader and how she reads Jiang Shao, but oh well…. Good Morning Spy is good? I heard a bit of the intro and wasn’t sure. Bao Zhu’s Ghost Talk sounds good. If you’ve just started, mind if I join you?
I will be slower than you, I think, so please leave a comment if you start SSLC! I loved HYSXM, but not so much WeiWei…
I gave the 3 versions a try. I don’t like the audiobook. Sound weird being read by a guy. I can’t accept Shan Shan has a man’s voice, lol. I gonna download the radio drama & convert them into MP3 to start listening tomorrow. Yah, pretty hard work but quality is very impt:P
Xinn, have u started or finished this novel? How do u like it? I listened to a bit of the radio drama. Shan Shan seems like a slow & silly girl. How can u not known your boss especially he is such a gem, haha? Also, over my dead body will I let my boss have my blood, lol. I feel the big boss is typical Gu Man’s male lead, cool & domineering. Btw, I highly recommend u the audiobook for Good Morning, Miss Undercover !!!! Very entertaining & funny. That male lead very similar to the 2 books, ‘Hell’ & ‘Flash Marriage’ which you love:)
Hi Peanuts, I only started 杉杉来吃 yesterday after a major digression. Believe it or now, I took on 与狼共枕 (Sleeping With A Wolf)!!!! Then I realised, I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. It was an emotional roller coaster ride on 与狼共枕 , I couldn’t really handle the relationship between the two leads (still raging an internal debate, is it incest or is it not????). Nevertheless, it was a great book although I confess, I did not read it in its entirety. I also commented on this book on Seoul In Love Now site where I found the book.
But 杉杉来吃 is so sweet and fluffy, just what I need after Sleeping With A Wolf.
I reckon I should finish it by today becoz it’s so short. What wouldn’t I do to have a boss like Shan2…..I will eat all the liver…..you can take all my blood…..haha….such a fun-fun book!!!!
Xinn, you naughty girl, went & slept with the wolf, lol. Btw, you are older than 18 yrs old rite:P? YLWX’s books are not reommended for those under 18. I gave up that book after a few chapters bcos of the age disparity, adopted r/s, gangster theme. If you like YLWX’s style, highly recommend u Wedding Night, Neighbour. That guy is really sweet & devoted but the opening chapter might not sit well with some ppl so beware. She also wrote an e’yer & e’yee r/s book but it is a lot more twisted than Shan Shan.
I’ve converted all the radio dramas into MP3 so I shall start eating Shan Shan tomoro, muahaha…Don’t stress yourself too much using google to listen. Try some audiobooks or radio dramas as they are really good & can give your eyes & hands some rest. Currently, I am obssessed with Miss Undercover audiobook, heehee….The other 2 Gu Man’s books are not as funny as Shan Shan. Wei Wei is rather sweet & dreamy. He Yi Sheng is a bit angsty & serious. Nonetheless they are still nice. If you like funny boss & staff r/s kind of book, give KAO a try. That one is hilarious.
Heehee,….blush-blush…..just looked at my birth cert, yes, I am most definitely over 18. And yay, I have finished 杉杉来吃. What a refreshing book, no angst, no tension, just endless moments of humour. Wished it was longer though. ShanShan is just too cute and she put on so much weight from the daily good
food that she can’t get the zipper up on her dress…..
Btw, can anyone tell me if the author of 老婆，跟我回家吧 and 你不入地狱谁入地 wrote any other books besides these two?
As for more of YLWX’s books, I was thinking of doing 把爱错给了你 – Love Given to you by Mistake (about a scientist and his PhD student) but it would not be immediate. Meanwhile, I’m trying to find another romance with a heavy dose of comedy just so that I will build up enough buffer to tackle YLWX again. I am also concurrently reading Fifty Shades of Grey, I wish there was more than 24 hrs in a day. Right now, I really need to catch some winks, don’t want to be a longlost cousin of the pandas.
Oh, the radiodrama for Shan Shan is very nice bcos the girl’s voice is very cute & blur, just how I image her to be. Her interaction with the Big Boss is so funny. Why he kept feeding her liver, lol? Yuck, I dun eat that:P He also makes her pick his vege which I often do, haha….Out of Gu Man’s 3 books, this one is the most funny:)
Yes, the author wrote other books but they are not in print. The 2 you read are the best. Don’t eat too much of the same kind of food, give other books a try:) I’ll dig them out for you later:P
Hey, I recommended u so many funny books already like
Good Morning Miss Undercover – https://www.shushengbar.net/?p=1660
Kao, I’ve Been Submerged – https://www.shushengbar.net/?p=1363
Tuzi Yadao Wo Bian Cao – https://www.shushengbar.net/?p=874
Start listening or reading the above 3. If they are not funny, I’ll refund you:P
Btw, Seoul did a new post on ‘Big Grey Wolf”s books’ which I recommended her. Since you are over 18, you can give those books a try bcos Xiao Bai is really very ‘black belly’ (fu hei), the kind u like, lol.
I finished this book recently & love it! Its a very cute & happy story…at first I find the title a little weird, after reading realise it make sense because Shan Shan is always ‘invited’ for lunch so must ‘come & eat’, hahaa…
I find it comical that Shan Shan dreamt of herself as a rabbit & Feng Teng is a tiger, find their conversation very funny!
Atsu, lidge & I are going to translate Shan Shan into English for those who can or can’t understand Chinese:) As per the comments, this is a very funny & cute book so come & give it a try.
Sorry, I think the ebook I attached is incomplete. This is becos there are many fanfics floating around so I’ll need to double check on it & will attach the complete version later. The authors may write more epilogues after the completion or printing of the books. Also, don’t forget they are internet novels. They’ll get edited for printing so the original version posted online can be different from the printed version. This is why Seoul & my ebook links are different for Go With the Flow of Love.
Anyway, you can read my English translation on the additional bits later:P
Oohhh….thanks a big bunch…(just sent you a flying kiss…heehee)…
I just read the later add-on epilogues…..arrrhhhh……HeYiChen and ZhaoMoSheng cameo-ed in it….so nice…..so sweet…..i can’t get enough of shuai ge HYC.
Hey, i think that epilogue is fanfic not by Gu Man:P Anyway if it makes u happy, read all of them & enjoy:) Btw, why you don’t want to listen to radio drama? Really good, make HYC even more swoon worthy, lol.
I have just read the rest of ShanShan’s story. In addition to the 18 chapters posted here, there is another 22 chapters, right? A total of 40 chapters?
I’m really confused, is this also fanfic or written by GuMan herself? My buddy, also my partner in crime in the world of chinese novels, gave me the links. She swears it is GuMan’s, I really dunno but I enjoyed it so thoroughly. If you could confirm it, I would love to write about it.
My version got 41 chapters plus some epilogues. As far as I know first 18 chapters 100% written by Gu Man. The rest are some written by Gu Man & some fanfics. Give me the link of your version pls. Can’t you tell fr the writing style? Anyway, as long as you enjoy them, no need to worry if they are written by Gu Man so pls write abt it:)
What are u reading now? I read your review in Seoul’s blog & left u a msg !!!! Give when the boat crosses the bridge & Hi, my man a try as they are quite popular.
Yup, I made a mistake, it is actually 41 chapters with a bunch of epilogues. I can’t even read simple digits now, must be lack of zzzzzzs.
Here’s the link, http://91baby.mama.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=363386&extra=page%3D1&page=10
There are other sites but most of which are not complete with one/two chapters missing. So far, i find the abv link to be the only one with all 41 chapters.
To recollect, the first half of the book, we were introduced to the fun, funnier and funniest of ShanShan.
Here, we pick up where we left off at chapter 18. We have poor Shan2 rejecting Boss 大人’s version of the so-called confession. Shan2 then seeks her buddy’s advice without revealing that she’s actually the person in the predicament. Shan2’s novelist buddy likens Boss 大人 as a gold card falling from the sky but without the password. To add salt to the wound, the buddy says even if she had the password, the gold card does not come with credit but liabilities!!
Although, we are still given our fair share of Shan2’s antics, there seems to be a turn in the second half of the book with touches of melancholy. We feel Shan2’s sense of insecurity as reality sinks and she realises that Boss 大人 and her are worlds’ apart. We get the real deal of the relationship as Shan2 questions why a wealthy aristocratic Boss大人 would fall in love with a lowly person like her?
We see Shan2 in tatters over her feelings for Boss大人 and their incompatibility.
Eventually Shan2 comes to grips with the situation and she tries to narrow their gap. I have to quote two lovely lines (maybe I will get to plagiarise them in real life one day if I am lucky enough to hv my very own Boss大人) :
But Shan2 is not Shan2,without some slap sticks. I was tickled to death when Boss 大人’s immaculate fashion sense was somewhat compromised and tested to the limit!! He had to wear a suit tailored by Shan2’s father who used to be a tailor. And Shan2 gave away her maiden kiss in a carrot patch which she found utterly unbecoming. But I wouldn’t have complained becoz I personally thought it was kinda romantic. And oh, the airport scene where they held hands for the first time was so sweet…eeee…so blushy-blushy.
Not to take anything away from the second half but I actually thought the first half of the book was more enjoyable. Maybe it’s becoz of the non-stop hysterical laughing moments that i got from it, but all things considered, it is a very commendable book. Lovely writing style. I love it!!! I love GuMan!!!
Thank you Xinn Xinn for another great review. Actually I’ve not read part 2 but I’ll be translating it later:) WE ALSO LOVE GU MAN lol !!! Thus we are translating this book for all those who can’t read Chinese out there to share our love, haha….I heard there is a part on fangirling Hyun Bin & also Shan Shan internet addicition, lol. Btw, did you manage to continue or finish Wei Wei?
Btw I’ve got Baidu’s poll top 35 male leads in novels. Unfortunately Big Boss didn’t make the list:( You might recognise a few of them but you didn’t read enough books to know most of them, lol. If you want a copy, I can email you:)
Yes, plz send me the list, I want to review it so that I know wic are the male leads I am missing out on.
And I am not surprised that Big Boss did not make the cut becoz the book is almost entirely from Shan2’s perspective. He’s somewhat like a third party, he maybe vivid in our imagination but ultimately, he does not really stand out as a character in the book itself.
hihi….does anyone know what does xia (4) fan(4) in chinese mean?
when feng teng says tat ss is very special in xia(4) fan(4)….what does it mean? is it a phrase of expression in china?
[…] Shan Shan Comes To Eat (杉杉来吃 – Shan Shan Lai Chi) https://www.shushengbar.net/?p=1765 […]
Hey pm, long time no hear, how are you? I didn’t know how to answer you then but I know the answer now after translating chapter 24 & consulting SS super fan, lol. xia fan means ‘easy to eat’ as you can eat your rice with a variety of dishes. In other word, SS is ‘easy to bully’, lol.
[…] 42. Feng Teng from novel: Come & Eat, Shan Shan […]
