Eclipse Heart 蚀心者 by 辛夷坞 Xin Yi Wu (BE)

e850352ac65c1038fc3d4923b2119313b17e8994

In everyone’s heart there is bound to be a guiding moonlight. You will use it like a bible to guide every step of your life. But in Fang Deng (Light)’s world, there is no sun. Fu Jing (Mirror) Shu (Special) is like a dim light, though not as bright as the sun, but enough to illuminate her gloomy life. In fact, she knew there is no light  but darkness in Fu Jing Shu’s world. So, Fang Deng decided to to help Fu Jing Shu. If he is a mirror, then she is a lamp. This way, she can illuminate him, and also see the light in his refraction.

To be able to guard the person one loves, and to be able to know each other’s hearts, even if they always walk in the dark night, one presumably will be very happy. But Fu Jing Shu finally could not resist the earthly temptation and desperate to reach his goal, Fang Deng’s heart is sacrificed. After Fu Jing Shu single-handedly destroyed Fang Deng’s love, the sun completely sets in her heart. How are we going to guard one’s heart to avoid such fate? Actually in this story, whose heart eclipsed whose heart?

Oh, forgot to say the title of the new book is 蚀心者. XYW’s really sneaky and tricky about the main guy….lol. He’s mentioned in Waiting 4 U during Wu Jiang and Yuan Yuan’s wedding. Shao Cheng’s husband calls him “uncle.” Since SC’s husband is like 40, I though the “uncle” must be old. But if this “uncle” is the main guy in XYW’s new novel, then his age should be late 20’s or early 30’s. Haha….sneaky XYW~

A person who lost their heart. I think that’s what the new book means?

Jue Nian’s boss seems like a really nice and unprejudiced person to hire a person fresh out of jail.

hehe I also thought, waaaah uncle? so old, but there are people who are born and already someone’s aunt and uncle.

I saw your msg, peanuts 🙂

The new book sounds delicious though (yes, I’m evil and tempting you even if it’s not even published yet~). The epilogue of Let Me mentions the shop owner growing up in an orphanage. In Waiting 4 U, it’s mentioned that the “uncle” is head of a powerful conglomerate. So already we have poor girl/rich guy set up. Throw in some angst + humor = good story!! lol My bet is they have a past b/c most of her novels, the main characters know each other as children or teens.

Arrrrgh you naughty girl, I am starting to feel hungry now, lol. I can’t resisit temptation so I gonna go to baidu to see if I can dig out even more juicy info. But I am not sharing any with you, hahaha….

I am reading XYW’s weibo. All her book rights have been sold to be made into drama or film. She is currently selling the rtg for the new book. Wah, she is so popular that 3million books have been sold. Oh, did you know XYW is married to her childhood sweetheart, so sweet:)? The readers in weibo want a happy ending for the new book. Readers are looking fwd to any mention of the leading guy in Memory, either wake up fr coma or died. Also wanna find out more on HS & JN.

Teaser fr the new book ‘Losing Heart’? ‘I lay bare my heart on your icy cold chest, just to see the appearance of your smile. I love so truly, madly, deeply. In the eyes of other people, my love is crazy which is the only way I know how to love. Main characters: Fang Deng, Fu Jing Shu, Luyi, Su Guang Zhou, Jia Mingzi, Fu Zhi Shi & Situ Jue.

Fu Jing(Mirror) Shu(Special) is the name of the uncle. I still prefer Fu Jiu Yuen’s name:P He is also mentioned in Mirage by Chi Cheng & Xun Xun. The Fu family is also a powerful family & is taking care of the business of the main girl in Memory. The readers in baidu are arguing abt his age. They think the story will start from Fang Deng’s (the owner of the fabric shop) childhood. I know why he is called uncle but I am not telling, lol.

Pls, pls spoil why he is called “uncle”!! I’m sure his age is late 20’s/early 30’s. This is a romance novel so the main guy must be: young, handsome, poweful, have lost of $$$$$$$, is either CEO/doctor/lawyer/architect, cold to other ppl but madly in love with the main girl and will do anything for her….lol.

The teaser sounds so angsty~~ I like!♥♥ I like!♥♥ I think it’s from the uncle’s pt of view b/c XYW’s main guys tend to love the main girls passionately. His name is nice, but I like calling him “uncle”. Sounds more provocative^^

How come it sounds like it’s from the girl? I dunno, the term “icy chest” makes it seem like it’s the guy’s chest. If she’s from orphan, was she adopted by his family? Maybe he is also her uncle? adopted father’s younger brother? Maybe he’s 10 years older than her? haha that’s why it’s crazy. I think I like it this way better.

I’m guessing. I’m searching up to find out now.

Hey lidge, you twisted his name, lol. He is Uncle Jing (Mirror) Shu (Special) which is the first & 2nd name. Don’t like his surname, sound like a fool, haha..

Why he is called uncle bcos he is an uncle loh, haha….tricked you:P He is Uncle 7, the cousin of that bad professor’s wife in Memory. Bcos he is a generation ahead so TSC’s hubby called him uncle. Since he is number 7, his age should be around 30 to 35. Since JN is 29 yrs old in Let Me Look, her boss should be around the same age so there should not be a problem age wise.Btw all these are speculations by the readers:P

Opps I am not sure I translated icy chest correctly as I did it in a hurry:P If I am wrong, pls tell me. Oh, so looking fwd to this new book. I won’t read it till it is confirmed there is a happy ending. Probably will wait till Nov after my holidays:)

All of XYW’s books take place in G city so all her characters are connected though work, friends, family relations, etc. Main/supporting characters in one book show up in other books as supporting characters. Good thing about this is getting updates on characters you like. Bad thing is it can drive you up the wall when you can’t recall where you had previously read such-and-such character.

    Peanuts
Btw, I found out XYW’s new book has kidnapping as part of the plot. Wonder if the leads got kidnapped so being confned together, they start to like each other? Hey Lidge, are you reading? Are you excited at the prospect of being kidnapped by her new book, lol?

XYW’s new book is released this month in China, I think. If I can read Chinese and live in China, I’d be in line on the first day it’s released to buy it! If it’s a workday, I’ll call in sick so I can stay home and marathon it…hehe. I want to know who got kidnapped and by whom? lol.

The main couples in XYW’s books tend know each other as children/teens so my guess is the relationship between Fang Deng and Uncle will go way back too. There’s mention of an orphanage so maybe they knew each other at the orphanage? Wonder if Uncle is like the crazy boss in Fallen Innocence where he’s an illegitimate child and later found and adopted by the family because he’s the only surviving heir. Or maybe it’s like the K-drama Beautiful Days where he visits the orphanage for a charity visit with his parents and meets her. Ooooh, am going crazy at all the possibilities~~~

I don’t like guys who give up the main girl for power or money. I’m a romantic so that’s one of the things I hate most. If Uncle 7 did that, he better be awesome to FD to make up for the hurt he’s caused her. Or maybe he only betrayed her in the first place because he was forced to? Or maybe due to a misunderstanding?

I posted this to lure you, haha…When I read the intro I was thinking such a cliche storyline with an old jerk:( I was expecting something different fr her since she said she took 5 yrs to prepare for this book. Anyway, I’ll reserve my judgement after I finished this book. By the way, I think there is only 36 chapters including epilogue so abt 300 pages. I like short book but XYW is becoming lazy, lol. 7 chapters have been released so I gonna start reading maybe after chapter 20 has been released probably around xmas break. With the intro I read, I think the girl has a sad life bcos of her alcoholic dad.

There’s so much buzz about this book so I hope it’s good. Not sure if this is correct, but I read the title has been changed to something like “Never Letting Go.” So I think prob rumor about Uncle 7 & female lead from IW4U is to generate sales because the new title puts the focus on Uncle 7 and FD. Sounds like Uncle 7 did FD wrong by letting her go to get power/money but later on regrets it so tries to make up for his past mistake. Hence the “Never Letting Go.” Sounds stalkerish, lol.

Lidge dear, I’ve read 2 chapters. Are you ready for the summary, lol? So far, I don’t really like it. Among XYW’s book I’ve read, this has the most boring & bleakest chapter 1. I read comments that after 8 chapters the story is still going nowhere & ppl is starting to get impatient since there is only 36 chapters. Update is 3 days, 1 chapter so a long wait:(

Chapter 1 talks abt FD & his dad returned to Melon island, their ancestor home after the death of her aunt to escape from the creditor. Lengthy description of the island & its history, zzzzzzz:P They rent a pigeon hole on top of a grocery shop, right across Fu mansion which is next to an orphanage. The room has a window facing a run down Fu mansion. FD’s dad is an alcoholic who does menial job to make ends meet. This is supplemented by her aunt who sort of works as a prostitute:( FD suspects she is not his dad’s daughter as nobody in her right mind will hook up with him. She is 15 yrs old & is in high school. She has a sad life, always being looked down on, have to worry abt the next meal and having to move fr place to place.

Our male lead appears in Chapter 2 but his appearance is nothing to shout abt. XYW loves to write abt lecherous shopkeeper so FJS saw FD’s landlord & owner of the grocery shop trying to molest her. But he did nothing. Luckily FD shouted/cried which scare him off. FD saw FJS’s shadow and followed him home. Later, she climbed & sat on top of the Fu mansion wall trying to make conversation with him but he was busy tending to his garden & gave her lukewarm responses. Yes, we’ve a female stalker here, lol. Why is she so keen on him? Bcos she thinks he is his aunt’s son who is 2 yrs older than her. You’ve to wait till next week to find out if such is the case as I think I’ll read 2 chapters a week, heehee….

The beginning doesn’t sound so bad. Seems like the author is setting up the plot. I don’t like how Uncle 7 didn’t do anything to help FG when the shopkeeper attacked her.

The orphanage is next to the Fu mansion so that’s the connection. I think FD will eventually end up there for some time because in the epilogue of Let Me, I think she mentioned living in an orphanage.

I have problems with reading stories where the beginning they have troubles with being able to be together and if the end they still can't work things out it makes it pointless and wasting my hopes on the pair... kinda like if there was a book on Xun Xun's husband and his little aunt. As the result for a side couple I can accept, but I can't accept for main couple ever. In reality it happens, but I prefer books to bring hope rather than pouring cold water with the ending.

That drowning should be taken as a symbolism, not ending lah. How come that car so old fashion? Probably relate to FD’s aunt generation. I think Uncle 7 is her son.

The bond with him is her only pure thing in this filthy world.
A young Fang Deng said: Her world doesn’t have a sun.
Fu Jing Shu is like a reflected light, although it is not as bright as the sun, it can light up the path in front of her.
But, Fu Jing Shu’s world also doesn’t have light. So Fang Deng decided to help Fu Jing Shu.
If he is like a mirror, she is like a light.
This way she can lighten up him, and in his darkness see light.
But Fu Jing Shu finally cannot break away from the seduction of world possessions, and abandoned Fang Deng’s heart.
When Fang Deng’s heart is destroyed in one swoop, her heart’s sun has set.
How do we protect it so that it won’t end?

    Song meaning:
F: I didn’t cry; I only accompanied you until dawn.
Listening to the raindrops in my heart on the pathway to separation.
Not looking at your sadness or your anxious avoidance of me.
When I look up at the sky, I realize there’s no sunlight.

M: Your sadness, my reluctance silently flows.
Is our reunion a brief dream?
The wind blows across your face. My vision greedily looks towards your silhouette.
I discovered that the entanglements have blocked my view.
In the blink of an eye, you have disappeared in the sea of people.

F: Goodbye still rings in my ears.
The hand you held is still quietly burning.

    M: Goodbye, my love.
Your heart is no longer gentle.

F: Not willing to persuade you to stay.
To allow you to walk in a direction that doesn’t have me.
These nights would have quiet thoughts.
We both passed by this fate.

I really liked the song. I really hope not all of it applies to the book though, but from what words were written, it sounds like it does. I couldn’t make out a few of the words, so the meaning but be a bit off, but I think it’s generally correct. Sounds angsty.

Yes, the lyrics apply to the book bcos this song was specifically written for the book. After reading the chapter titles, a review of the book & some comments, seem like this book is angsty as XYW said she wanna write a more realistic book in line with her growing maturity and experiences in life. This sounds like a book written for you, lol,

Hey lidge if you are reading, you might be in for a heart break:( According to rumour, FD might die. XYW might be following the footstep of FWSC:( Also, according to a review I read which didn’t really give away much, Uncle 7 is an illegimate son, FD’s love for Uncle 7 is kind of one sided and this book is different fr previous XYW’s book and you’ll be surprised/shocked as this book will differ from the norm. I occasionally sub dramas that I really like, but I have a short attention span. I think the most commitment I had was the beginning of BBJX, and then I sorta got bored, since subbing takes a while. Although poetry and Chinese riddles are still beyond my understanding.

Hmm, I usually don’t like one-sided love, it’s a bit too depressing and hopeless. Hopefully, it won’t turn out to be, Uncle 7 realizes he actually loves FD after her (maybe) death. Even though it probably would serve him right for abandoning her. Tell me if it’s good when you (maybe) finish.

Hey lidge if you are reading, you might be in for a heart break:( According to rumour, FD might die.

Ahhh, I want to unread what I have read, lol.

From the mv clip and spoilers, here’s my guess on the plot:
FD loves Uncle 7 first, and he eventually returns her feelings. At this point, somehow Uncle 7 thinks he’s FD’s aunt’s son. Coincidentally, his father’s side of the family also contacts him because while he is illegitimate, he’s the only male heir left. He leaves FD because he thinks they’re 1st cousins so there’s no future. However, he thinks the truth is too harsh for her so he lies and tells her he prefers a rich life over a poor life with her.

Years pass, and they meet again due to some fated circumstance. Who knows, maybe his conglomerate tries to take over a piece of land which has a lot of shops, one of which is FD’s draperies shop. He tries to stay away but can’t because he still loves her. One thing leads to another, and FD finds out the real reason he left. They do some digging and find out they’re not really related, yay!! Unfortunately, FD finds out she’s sick or gets into a serious accident (maybe drown?) so she’s in a coma. But in the end, she gets well or there’s the possibility she’ll get well so happy ending in the epilogue for Uncle 7 and FD.

If Eclipse Heart doesn’t end well, I’ll write this story and call it Never Letting Go 🙂 🙂

All kidding aside, I don’t think it’s one-sided on FD’s part. It may be one-sided in the beginning, but I think Uncle 7 returns her feelings. From skyblu’s translation, in the male vocal part, there’s this “My vision greedily looks towards your silhouette” (which tells of him unable to forget her….my guess is during the time they’re apart) and later on, it’s “Goodbye, my love” (which confirms his feelings for her).

Thus chapter 9 is the last chapter available online till the release of the physical book on 18 Dec. I am not surprised of such move as they’ve released a quarter of the book as teaser to induce ppl to buy. I respect copyright but come on in this internet age, it is impossible to control the distribution of the text. I am sure those who love XYW will buy the physical book as it is quite cheap but those who are not her fan or can’t read Chinese like us:P will not buy. Sooner or later it’ll be available online. Thus, I don’t agree with them stopping the serialization. I feel they are too commercialized, trying to milk as much money as possible out of her work. Thus, I won’t be continuing with the summary till I can get my hand on a full copy of the book online. I wonder how fast anyone will take the trouble to scan & post them online. With scanned version, can I still put them into google to be read? Grrrrr, I am not happy abt this and contemplating boycotting her book, lol.

I hear ya, peanuts! Copyright is good because good income will motivate XYW to keep coming up with good stories. However, bummer for us who can’t read Chinese or buy her books. Sad that the supply is cut so now you can’t be a dealer anymore, and I’m left hanging after only 2 chaps, lol. When I have more money, I plan to buy the published books to support the writers. Def the first ones I’ll buy are XYW, FWSC, TQGZ, and Gu Man. Can’t do that now b/c the international shipping is worth as much as the books.

Typing is slower than scanning, but it can be done quickly if several ppl get together and agree to type a certain segment. Wonder what new book XYW is working on now. I remember reading she had a baby not long ago so she prob went through a big life change. Prob this is why she wants to take her writing in a new direction to reflect her new experiences and outlook in life.

Hey, hey, I think XYW is richer than us bcos she sold all the copyrights to the books including this. Thus, she should be more generous & post them online for us to read. If it is good, I am sure many will buy. It is not that I am stingy but I don’t see the point buying the book as I rely on google to read to me. Unless, there is an English translation, then I’ll buy. Those authors you mentioned are rich enough bcos they are famous, so no need to support them, lol. Should support the promising upstart so they can take over one day:P

I saw some pictures of XYW busy promoting her new books with interviews & book signing events. So, I doubt she is writing a new book yet. She is currently too busy rolling in the money, lol. Ok, take pity on you & give you a shot – Chapter 3 summary:P

Our female stalker kept on following Uncle 7 around. They go to the same school so after school she’ll wait for him in front of the gate & trailing behind him on the way home. Uncle 7 has a boring life which is school, learn painting & tending to his plants/flowers. He is being looked after by an old man caretaker & he calls him ‘Little 7′(xiao 7) (What a coincidence as this is the name of the author of the hell book I am reading, lol).

From now on, I shall address Uncle 7 as Little 7 bcos FD likes to call him by that name after hearing the caretaker called him:P She likes to call him “Little Seven” which is better than “Fu mirror special”, although the two names are special in her heart. When Little 7 heard her calling this for the 1st time was surprised & unhappily asked her who asked you to call me this name? FD quickly pretended to call the stray dog on the road side, Little 7. Thereafter, Little 7 pretended he never hear anything & never say anything whenever FD called him Little 7, 77 or make fun of his names:P

She continues to climb & sit on the Fu Mansion’s wall trying to make conversation with him while he does his gardening. He usually will not talk to her so she needs not worry that he’ll scold her. She asked him why he is called Little 7? Is it bcos he has 7 siblings? Where did they all go? She told him she grew up alone & her aunt said when she was born, the street lights outside the window is brighter than the moon, so she is called ‘light’. Then the caretaker appears & asked Little 7 who he is talking to. He replied outside there is a stray dog barking non-stop so I want it to leave quickly. FD heard this on the other side of the wall & laughed out loud as he does know how to bite back, lol.

At least she knows Little 7 does not dislike her, she can feel it. He must already know who she is, her relationship with her aunt (his mum). But he has been very tolerant & never mentioned it. There is no secret in the world so what her aunt did for a living all these yrs must have been known to many. No mattter why the aunt and the father of Little 7 are together & why they separate, normally children are unwilling to accept mothers who leave them behind and moreover involved in prostitution. For FD, whether he recognized her as a relative is not impt, as long as he clearly knows they are related & she is not someone irrelevant, this is enough.

Wah, my summary seem to become translation, lol. Part 2 of chapter 3 later as I need to take a nap, lol.

Haha, of course no pt. of buying Chinese books if one can’t read Chinese. It’s just that there are a lot of translated novels that have been published in Viet. I want to buy them to support the writers/translators, but also because I prefer reading actual books to reading online. I like holding a book in my hands, looking at printed words, and flipping pages. I also like the smell of books, too….haha, I know I’m weird. I’ll def buy books, but this is prob in the far (but hopefully not too far) future when I have some money, lol.

Hey dealer P., you said you wouldn’t continue with the updates b/c the online releases have stopped so thanks for not keeping your word, lol. Ahhh, the beginning of Uncle 7 and FD’s relationship is cute!!! I like! I like!♥♥♥ So she just talks and talks and he just ignores her but she just talks on? LOL! Funny about both of them referencing the other person to a stray dog. No angst yet but am already preparing for the angst coming later.

Haha, you are a librarian so of course you love books. Without them you’ll be jobless, lol. Whereas I find books a waste of paper (save the tree:P) as well as space (my apt is small:(). Anyway to each its own as I save paper for you to use:P I know how an addict feels so decided to give you your fix today, lol Btw I always eat my words so don’t take what I wrote seriously:P I’ve just finished chapter 3 & do feel lazy to summarise but I’ll do it just for you after taking my bath, lol. XYW loves to write abt outcasts in society so stray dog aptly describes both of them. Chapter 3, Part 2.

FD’s class teacher organises a clean up exercise near the pond. She works hard at it while the other kids laugh at her for being skilful since her dad does the odd job of burying the dead, picking up trash etc. She ignored them as she is used to the jibes. She got some fertilizer for Little 7’s plants & waited for him outside the school gate. Then, a hateful boy appeared & teased her abt giving such stinky present to Little 7. The boy continues to ridicule & make derogatory remarks abt FD’s family & Little 7 as well like calling them a family of rats etc. Little 7 kept quiet & appeared indifferent when being humiliated but FD lost her temper & stuff some fertilizer into the bad boy’s mouth to shut him up. Bravo, way to go girl power, lol. This rude boy appears in Memories book so can you guess who he is, lidge:)?

The bad boy vomited badly & cried. The teacher & his parents came. The bad boy’s mum was abt to give FD a slap but Little 7 intercepted her & called her ‘2nd sis-in-law’. She looks resentful & bitterly put down her hand. At last, Little 7 did something or else I gonna give him a slap for being such a coward:P I think all leading males in XYW’s books deserve a good slapping from me at some pt in the stories, lol. The teacher took FD away & gave her a good lecture. It turned out that bad boy is Fu Zhi Shi, the man who married Tan Shao Cheng in Memories. Readers commented such a bad boy so young no wonder he married an equally bad girl:P

FD found out fr the teacher that bad boy is the son of Little 7’s 2nd brother & wondered why they didn’t live together in the Fu mansion and why the family of 3 didn’t look at Little 7 with love or goodwill. FD is surprised they didn’t give her anymore trouble but doesn’t believe bcos they are giving face to Little 7 as the bad boy dared to show such disrespect to his uncle 7. FD doesn’t know where her anger comes from but she took some newspaper & blocked the window which looks across the Fu mansion. From then on, she’ll go home immediately after school, if she sees Little 7 she’ll pretend not to see him & quickly walk away & she no longer climbs the Fu mansion’s wall to talk to him. This is bcos she realises that although Little 7 doesn’t hate her, he also doesn’t really want to get close to her. She is like a stray dog whohe would not deliberately drive away, but will not reach out and stroke its head, because he also knows, the dog is dirty:(

Ok, end of chapter 3. I think I wrote more for this book than my uni essays, lol.

Sweet of FD to think of Uncle 7 and give him some fertilizer, though I’m not certain that’s a good idea for a present, lol. Uncle 7 is strangely enthusiastic about gardening. Hmmmm, I think there must be a reason behind it.
Actually, I couldn’t guess the boy being FZS because he showed up briefly (like 1 paragraph) in Memories. The epilogue of Memories talks about FZS and TSC’s marriage, and it’s not a happy one because he has other women, but she ignores it because she likes the prestigious status of being his wife. She’s ambitious like Chen Xiao Zheng in Lost Youth so I can’t say I feel sorry for that type of ppl because they deserve what they get.

FD has no money & Little 7 loves gardening so I find the gift is very appropriate:P I think he loves gardening bcos it is a solitary exercise plus he can pour his love & care into growing his plants, which he lacks in his life while growing up. He also loves to paint, such melancholy hobby:( After 3 chapters, Little 7 is my least fav male among XYW’s books:P He better do something to make me love him:P I though FZS has a supporting role in Memories. Hey lidge, just read XYW’s interview & 99% the ending for this book will not be HEA. She said, the usual book will have the leads overcoming obstacles to be together but in this book the female lead will decide to give up on the love. This is nothing new as Waiting for you in Memories also has the female lead leaving. She also said this book is more sad than her other books but she didn’t do it on purpose, just that it is the natural progression of the characters. Everyone in baidu also think this book will end in tragedy so I am not gonna continue reading it. She feels Yang Mi is most suited to play the lead if this get filmed which is currently being discussed.

Next year, she gonna revise your fav book Twilight (not that vampire book:P)

Sad!! Sad!! I guess the ending for Eclipse will be along the line of Wating4U where the female lead decides to leave everything behind in the end because she couldn’t take the betrayal anymore. With the exception of Zheng Wei in Lost Youth and Xun Xun in Mirage, I feel Yang Mi would be a good fit for any of the female leads of XYW’s books. They appear fragile outside but are tough and stubborn inside, and Yang Mi makes me feel she is of a similar disposition.

In Twilight, there is one glaring error that needs to be fixed, which is that the female lead and 2nd female lead are half-sisters and born a few months apart and yet they look like twins that no one can tell them apart. Looking forward to the revision and hope that the ending will not be so abrupt and easier to understand.

I’ll be sad if FD has a sad ending because from what you’ve summarized, peanuts, she’s had a sad childhood. I want her life to be better in her adult years, but I guess the worst place for a woman (whether in real life or in a romance novel) is whether she should be sacrificed by the man she loves in exchange for power/wealth. In the end, the woman usually loses. I’m disappointed in Uncle 7 already!!! Couldn’t he be smart enough to keep the power/wealth and salvage his relationship with FD at the same time? Guess the ending will be Uncle 7 having power/wealth but always longing for one thing he can never have, which is the woman he loves.

Although I’ll not be continuing my reading & summary, I’ll dig out the story & summarise briefly for you once the book hit the web:) XYW said later in life the discrepancies b/w FD & Little 7 is too wide to enable them to continue with their r/s. She wants a realistic portrayal of life as we grow up & change. Nothing stays constant or permanent forever which I agree as one can fall in love as well as out of love. But, as a reader of course we fantasise everlasting & forever. If she wants reality, go & write a biography:P

i must be sadistic because i really invite the idea of the guy ending up with the girl who no longer loves him, but…..disabled? == it seems like on of those ending where on the surface it looks good, but inside its rotten. i still wanna read.

  49. lidge
    lidge December 19, 2012 at 4:33 am |

Thanks for the update, peanuts. Poor, poor FD!!!! Being disabled is horrible, but also stuck with a man she doesn’t love. Personally, I think it’s torture being with someone you no longer love because whenever you see that person, you’ll feel pain by remembering how much you had passionately loved and the betrayal that destroyed that love.

And XYW gave closure to Memories, but I guess it’s not the closure everyone wanted. I understand that such an ending makes sense “realistically” because there’s no way the main couple could reconcile due to the female lead’s strong personality and the male lead’s inability to trust her. However, a part of me is still sad because I read romance stories to see ppl overcome obstacles and end up happy.

Peanuts: Have you finished Let Me Look at You? Btw according to XYW’s fans, her 3 best book is Youth, Let Me Look & Memories so I might read Memories later instead of this book.

I’ve finished Let Me. I think XYW did a good job in balancing sadness but also hopefulness within a story. I feel that everything that happened to JN was just one unfortunate incident that just somehow snowballed into the next unfortunate incident and the next one and so on. This is why I don’t blame HS. The biggest complaint against HS is that he didn’t speak out for JN at her trial, but when I read this part, I put myself in his shoes. I know that when I was his age, I didn’t have the courage to do a lot of things that now that I am older, I would be capable of doing because it’s just the right thing to do. So once again, I don’t blame HS for being silent, especially since he was reassured by his godmother that the hotel owner would vouch for JN, and it happened so quickly when the hotel owner went back on his words and the next thing HS knew, JN was sentence and the trial was over. I might be in the minority, but I don’t blame HS.

Memories is sad!!! sad!!! especially since XYW has confirmed everyone’s worst fear in Eclipse Heart, that the male lead will die so read at your own risk, peanuts, lol. However, I don’t deny that the story is very well-written.

I understand what you mean wanting to overcome obstacles & be happy. Bcos in real life, we seldom are able to do so thus we want to read abt ppl who can achieve that. It is good that she wants her book to reflect her growing maturity but she needs not be so brutal with reality. I can take a dose of realism but come on this is tragedy of epic proportion. Thus, I term her book a failure:P If I write that in baidu, her fans will bash me, haha..

Yes, yes, yes!! In real life, we don’t have the perfect guy waiting years and years for us, we don’t get second chances, we might not get a shoulder to cry on when we’re down and out.

I kind of see XYW’s dilemma since writers, good writers, want to take their writing to the next level, especially someone with XYW’s talent. The difficulty is not to be tragic for tragedy’s sake because somehow a sad ending is more “memorable” than a happy ending….coughTVBcough. When I read Mirage, I did feel some stagnation in her storytelling. Now that I think about it, I wonder if XX’s unhappiness in her stable but boring marriage is a reflection of XYW’s, that as a writer she’s no longer happy with her old, comfortable writing style and wants to try something new.

I hope XYW will find a new direction for her writing that she’s happy with. At the same time, I hope her new stories will entertain her fans like her old ones had done.

I’ve just finished this. I like it, 4/5 is my rating. The writing is solid as typical of XYW’s style. However, XYW said this is her best book, but I feel she probably said it to sell more books because I feel her best work to date is still Let Me Look At You.

There are complaints that the plot moves too fast, especially in the latter part of the story. Of this I agree and would have liked for certain parts of the story to be developed further, such as more childhood scenes (I enjoyed reading about Fang Deng and Fu Jing Shu in a lighter period of their lives) and Fu Jing Shu’s business dealings (this would help readers understand this complex character better).

Good news: No mention of Yao Qi Yun’s death so fans of Waiting 4 U in Memories (including myself) can all breath a huge sigh of relief!!!

Bad news: Eclipse Heart has a sad ending. If you have second male lead syndrome, I highly advise to either not read this at all or read but stop before chap 33.

I finished EH few days ago. I kinda dislike male lead because of his using her to help him get what he wants. I still don’t get whether Fu Jing Shu loves Fang Deng or not. And I’m confusing if Fang Deng still loves FJS or her heart is completely dead after the death of Lu Yi because she even committed suicide by jumping down the balcony. We only know that she didn’t die and residing in Fu family’s garden and is taken care by FJS. I think XYW should write side story for this book. I really want to know what happens next.
