“Peach blossoms, upon horseback I ask for the long tassel” was originally a line from the Chongzhen Emperor’s poem praising the female general Qin Liangyu. It also mirrors half of Song Xixi’s life and fate.
She is the last surviving descendant of the Marquis of Zhenbei’s household. Once, for the sake of a marriage contract, she concealed her spear and willingly put aside her martial ambitions to devote herself to running the household. Yet on their wedding night, her husband, Zhan Beiwang, leaves for the battlefield. When he returns victorious, he uses his military achievements as a bargaining chip to take the female general Yi Fang as his secondary wife, mocking Song Xixi for knowing nothing but the underhanded schemes of the inner household.
With a single crack of her whip, she severs herself from the past. Donning once more the bloodstained armor of her father and brothers, she mounts her horse and charges straight into the enemy ranks.
A surprise attack in the southern frontier, a city broken single-handedly, a solitary defense of the army’s supply route—once a lonely daughter of a military household, she ultimately becomes a female war god whose name strikes fear into neighboring nations.
The King of Beiming, Xie Rumo, is both her partner in life-and-death on the battlefield and the protector who secretly harbors deep feelings for her. Restrained and patient, he shields her family’s honor under the guise of a marriage alliance. Amid the treacherous struggles of the imperial court, he helps her avert the deadly threat of being “too powerful for the throne to tolerate.”
This is a story of a discarded wife rising to become a female general, but also an epic of a woman breaking free from her shackles and reclaiming control of her own destiny.
Amid the intertwining flames of war and hidden arrows of the imperial court, where deep affection collides with betrayal, she takes the long tassel as her brush and writes the fiercest answer of all across a bloodstained land.
