Who Is the Prey (The Controllers / Confidence) 掌中之物 (阳光之下) by 贝昕 (鮮橙) Bei Xin (Xian Cheng) (OE)

A ruthless man, an indomitable soul, and an entanglement that was wrong.

Four years ago, she sent him to jail and was only appeased when he was executed.

Four years later, he dragged her into hell. Despite seeing her hurt, his resentment failed to subside. This was a carefully prepared revenge, yet a relentless one. Fu Shenxing had always thought that He Yan would be in his palm.

Ultimately, who is the prey? Look in front, don’t fantasize about the gentleman’s soft-heartedness. Look behind, don’t expect the heroine to let go.

Personnally, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad ending : He Yan, after much sufferings, succeeds in getting free from Fu Shen Xing and he has his punishment for everything he got her through, which is losing her for good and living with the guilt of everything he did to her and the pain of never having her or her heart, only her hatred
It may be a bad ending for him but the reader definitely feels relief for He Yan who can go back to the one she truly loves and rest from her wounds

i watched the drama adaptation and i really enjoyed it! I also checked out the manhua afterwards. I heard that the drama and manhua cut out a lot of the darker stuff that was in the novel.

I quite agree with you Vico SDL. I thought it was a fitting ending – Fu Shen Xing gets his just desserts and He Yan is finally freed from this nightmare. Though I have to say Fu Shen Xing is quite an interesting character since he is very dynamic. I also liked how He Yan is so strong and never wavered in her determination to escape from him.

I never read the novel so I can’t compare but i thought that the drama was pretty well done. I liked Xiao Wu’s role in the drama, they gave the character more screen time and his struggles with his conscience was quite realistic.
